Hello! Taxidermy enthusiast/hobbyist here! Although ive heard people say much worse things about it i have something to say! Taxidermy isn't the whole body of the animal stuffed! It's merely the preserved skin on top of a stiff foam mannequin. Taxidermy actually has other purpose than trophies. Like preserving extinct species (no species don't go extinct because of Taxidermy ) making educational specimens for zoologist etc. It's actually pretty important and not too different from a snake skin purse or leather couch/car seat. Most Taxidermists make sure the animals they work with are respected so it's not "playing with an animal corpse" and yeah we do know that taxiderny is weird. We are just used to it. Also no taxidermists do not hate animals or want to see them suffer. Although thank you for not comparing Taxidermists serial killers We unfortunately get that a lot 😭

the dismissal of taxidermy is kinda sad. it is a very complex art form and is far from “playing with dead bodies.” we don’t even use stuffing as a technique nowadays. it would’ve at least been nice is you went over the general process. taxidermy is a way to respect and preserve an animal. taxidermy is also an important educational tool which is why every natural history museum you go to will be full of taxidermy. you can learn so much by examining taxidermy at a distance you could never achieve with a live animal. it’s okay to be creeped out by it but it is an art form that deserves respect

Fun fact: Van Gogh didn’t cut off his ear for a woman (that’s just people romanticizing his depression/mental illness) and how much of his ear he cut off is also unclear. He also didn’t unalive himself, but rather got bullied by some local teenagers regularly and he was covering for them after one took it too far and accidentally 🔫 him.

I haven't kept up with Ethan Becker's videos in a while, but the description in this video makes me really sad. The way I saw his older content, the "roasting" was a satirical bit that was entertaining while providing genuine tips that were informed by his professional career. To hear that he dropped the character is disheartening. Obv a KZbinr doesn't have perfect control over the viewers, but when you drop the satire, then the roasting would just come off as genuine and it's inevitably gonna draw a toxic fan base. It's a really common thing in the art community that artists are often our own worst critics, to the point that self depreciation is almost a meme. Add to that the rampant devaluing of art as a skilled work (underpaid animators, ai, commission prices going for fractions of minimum wage, etc) and artists have a plenty tough time. It sucks to see one of the few genuinely helpful resources and guides channels go sour.

I've seen both Mark brunet (idk if I spelled that name right) and Samdoesarts, and I honestly prefer Sam. Mostly because his editing style and way of speaking is a lot calmer, Mark's feels overloading to me. Sam yes, usually does go over beginner artists, but I have to say, he does give good advice, and it's helped me before. The reason he refers to his fans as Art Babies (at least from what I know) is because we're mostly rather new to it. Its not a roast, or an insult, just a term, a way to group us all together and refer to us :). And you might say that a lot of his tips only work in one style, but Mark's have the same issue, from what I've seen of his KZbin Art Academy series. /gen/nm Regardless of your thoughts on this, have a wonderful day/night!

@johnbrockiii4 ай бұрын
Oh no, yeah sure. I get it. But his content gave rise to the art roasting "genre" of art channels and they're honestly not very useful to the art community at large and, as I said, usually just "haha hand look funny."
@Swallow3414 ай бұрын
@@johnbrockiiiI can understand that sentiment, especially for those who are starting and learning artists. Some artists might be discouraged. But for the most part that you mentioned like Sam Does Arts and Ethan Becker, it's mostly jokes and satire and they do give out pointers sometimes. And this is just my personal take since I'm also technically a practicing digital artist, but I feel that in a way, a roast is a way to also improve, because the art world can be harsh, especially for those with harsh critiques or a straight up troll. At one point, you and your art will be "insulted". So in a way this is also to toughen up artists and get used to possible backlash or harsh insults. It's even more harsh on the internet. It can also be a way to gain clout for some of the artists, despite the roasting. That's just two of the things I can think of. To be clear, I'm not defending the two. I'm just saying what I think. As for Koleen, she's a different story.
@aubdrii4 ай бұрын
@@johnbrockiii Ethan becker made me start art again, most of his advice is simplified stuff. But he offers a different perspective with satire. A lot of time the title is clickbait and he actually compliments the artist he's "roasting". It really is just for viewer attention span which worked for me. I don't think he counts as an art roaster. that's more PKrussl, which did have a negative effect on young artists. His roasting of Loish which is called "Fixing loish stinky trash "Hands"" 1/3 way through literally dissects advice by analyzing her art style hands particularly. Comes up with a saying I still use for my art pieces. "WIDOFO" which is "When in doubtie one finger outie". Basically telling young artists that their favorite artist has a particular method of drawing hands and that it could improve your hand drawing by analyzing their pattern.
