Yes, I agree. The crystal gems all have their own issues, and that leads to traumatic moments for Steven.

@@nicktalksfilms Pearl’s obsessive attachments to the past, Amethyst’s personal issues of being a “defect” and a “parasite”, and Garnet’s literal internal conflict on both sides. All this rubbed off on Steven the wrong way.

Yeah it didn’t help that on top of all that Steven had to deal with his own identity issues.

What was more horrifying was that the forced gem fusions didn't seem malicious, it seemed that they actually wanted to get poofed (A form of mercy to their existence) or is trying to find other gems to piece themselves back which is just a terrifying concept. Also wanted to note that Garnet was also the embodiment of fusion so her seeing her long lost friends being forced into this amalgamation made her think that she was the cause of their suffering because the Diamonds wanted to copy what fusion was. Garnet seeing those amalgamations was like a blow to what they were fighting for and made her think of her own existence as the first mixed fusion. Jeez this was one of those moments in cartoon history that I think about when I let my cousin watch with my phone.
