Robert Enke later had a daughter via adoption, so kept his depression quiet as he felt if it got out, the authorities would take her away from him and his wife. Really one of, if not the biggest tragedy in football to happen to an individual player.

Worst thing to happen to a football player is get killed, this guy who played for one of these South Americans national team, I think Venezuela or Colombia, he accidentally scored an own goal leading for his team to be knocked out the World Cup. After the match, his manager warned him not to go to the city, but he ignored it and went to a pub. But after this, he was killed by some men with guns, every time the commentator said goal from his own goal, he was shot. But now I think their is a statue of him, and I think he is respected.

Hannover local here, trying to share some insight about his career. Robert Enke has had it really, really rough throughout the entirety of his football career as well. In multiple teams, especially in Barcelona and in Turkey, Enke has had a few difficult performances which lead to multiple teams lacking the trust in him to play him. Being made the Scapegoat for the respective clubs misfortunes on top of rough depressive episodes really isn't something light deal with. In Hannover, Enke became THE star of the show. He was given the confidence by the club, backed it with amazing performances and the fanbase loved him dearly. It was in Hannover as well where he truly began his national team career - with no less than men like Manuel Neuer, Tim Wiese and Jens Lehmann as his competitors. Enke beat them all out and was on the best way of getting himself a starting spot for the 2010 World Cup, before his depression got the better of him. Enke also revolutionised goalkeeping in a way that we see from ALL topclass GKs today: Watch a video of Robert Enke going into a 1v1 situation. The very specific way of sliding into the situation, making his body as big as possible while also making sure not to get the ball through his legs - he's the keeper who truly popularised this. Of course, fate happened to bring germany another GK to bring even bigger revolution, but Enke's effort can not be understated. One really haunting thing was later disclosed by Hannovers substitute goalkeeper Florian Fromlowitz. He was obviously attempting to compete with Enke but had no major shot. During the preparation for Hannover 96 v Hamburger SV, Enke personally went up to tell him that he shouldn't worry as he thinks that Fromlowitz will get more playing time than he thought was possible really soon. This 2-2 draw was happening two days before Enke passed away. To this day, Robert Enke is a legend here in Hannover, every single fan my age or older will immediately start being nostalgic and sad when he's mentioned and the street leading right to the northern entrance of the stadium is called the Robert-Enke-Straße in his memorial. Rest in Peace, Robert. ❤

Its crazy/tragic how similar the circumstances are between the Accra stadium disaster and the disaster that recently happened at the football stadium in Indonesia. A small proportion of fans cause trouble, the police respond by firing tear gas, innocent people are affected by the gas because gas doesn't know who to target, everyone runs to the exit, the emergency exits are blocked/locked - people die in a crush. It's sad that people in charge of policing football matches refuse to learn. Even after FIFA issued guidlines saying that police should never use tear gas within a stadium to tackle crowd trouble, it continued to happen.

One of the craziest stories of Mexican second and first division (because it wasn’t called Liga MX and Ascenso MX until 2012) was in the promotion final between Leon and Irapuato in 2003, when drug dealers and others from the Mexican mafia occupied and closed Irapuato’s stadium to try and postpone (or make them forfeit) the 2º leg and people had to fight them to reopen the stadium for the match to happen If you want I can help you because most of the info on this is only in Spanish

The Kicker the biggest like football reporting media in Germany spend a lot talking about mental health in sports at the time following his tragic passing, as well as did Germany's biggest sports shows, it did feel all bittersweet though since it took this passing to talk about it seriously.

He's also the father of two famous icelandic footballers, johannes and atli edvaldsson. Fabio Pocas - former portugese footballer who played at sporting lisbon's academy and later travelled to syria to join isis. Luzhniki accident, Patrik ekeng, the argentina peru game in 1978 world cup and abdul baset al-sarout.

Amazing video as always mate; informative and interesting to watch. However, I couldn't help but notice that two stories listed on the title cards were missed in the explanations: Otávio Jordão da Silva Cantanhede: a 20 year old amateur brazilian referee, murdered after an altercation with another player. After issuing a red card and the player refusing to leave the field, a fight broke out, and after being punched Otavio drew a knife and stabbed the player (later succumbing to his injuries). When the crowd found out, including Otavio's family and friends, they stormed the pitch, stoning him to death before decapitating him and placing his head on the center circle on a stake. All over a young amateur game. Kabul Soccer Stadium: used by the Taliban for public executions and decapitatings, with the regime forcing packed stands to watch them harshly punish criminals by lining them up behind the penalty spot and forcing them to kneel under the goalposts before being punished at close range, with the results of which often hung on the goalposts. Locals say that few dare to go near the stadium at night because the spirit of the victims of this tragedy is said to still live there.

Bruno Fernandes de Souza wasn't "released under an amnesty" in February 2017. His release came about due to an appeal by lawyers relating to delays with an appeal that he had submitted. I'm bewildered as to what grounds he appealed, but anyway....... he was rearrested/imprisoned again in April 2017 after the Supreme Court deemed that de Souza's legal team had been partly responsible for the aforementioned delays with his appeal. In July 2019, he was released from prison to serve the remainder of his sentence in a “semi-open” program, which meant he could work/train during the day, but he was then placed under house arrest at night.

Flamengo fan here to give more details about the Bruno case: The “he gave some pieces of Eliza to his dogs” was never confirmed and became an urban legend. Bruno was a star goalkeeper for my club. He was VERY good. He was on the verge of leaving for AC Milan and becoming Brazil's first goalkeeper at the 2010 World Cup. He even scored goals from free kicks and penalties at the time. He refused to pay child support to Bruninho. The amount was something around 2,000 reais, which was less than 5% of what Bruno earned monthly with Flamengo. After being released in 2017, he tried to get back into football several times at smaller clubs. But every time he managed to sign with a club, the club's sponsors threatened to pull out if the deal went through. Bruno's story is a sad story that happens a lot in Brazil of celebrities who think they can do whatever they want because fame will protect them. This man was on his way to becoming a world-class goalkeeper. And now he's a murderer. The reason behind Elizia Samudio’s killing is because she was a most unknown porn star and became pregnant of Bruno at a party the two attended. Bruno’s had a girlfriend and the time and refuse to support.
