Hi music fans. I'm pretty sure The D are massive Rush fans🙅....they are certainly as consistent. 35 songs scored 9/10 or more this week. The other 17 noted down at least scored 8/10. That means The Darkness are officially easily a great all time song writing band in my ears. Top 10 first followed by the others...with notes as listened as usual 😎🎸 Top 10 songs 10 Street Spirit (Fade Out) I'm pretty sure Radiohead if they've heard it.....love it. Justin is crazy great on this amazing cover that is in my top 10 cover songs....ever!!!🖤 9 Concrete (HC) perfect rocker that's looking for loooooooooooooove.... concrete!!🤣 The Bee Gees on steroids!! 👻 8 Living Each Day Blind (HC) first serious song on this great album and nailed it. Love the Queen style whiney guitars. 7 Growing On Me (PTL) I like other songs more on this album but this is a perfect and overlooked rocking beauty from the central holy trinity on PTL...that Alice Cooper/ACDC esque sound is loveable here (but not a fan of them sry!) 6 Roaring Waters (LOOK) man a fans fave....one of their best riff led songs. Has done nothing but grown on me the last 6 years or so....sry for using the joke every dad here is using....lol😂 5 Barbarian (LOOK) or Immigrant Song 2😎😂 fucking awesome opener....my fave of theirs, and the video👌 4 Rock N Roll Deserves To Die (EIC) not heard in a while since their cover of Radiohead, loooove that arching wail. Great song. Funny and serious and hard? Yup that's the Darkness people!🤟😎 3 Love Is Not The Answer (HC) (acoustic bonus track deluxe cd) yeah another song with love in the chorus, but wow. I actually replaced this acoustic version with the full song on my MP3 player as it gives me goosebumps way more.❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 2 I Believe In A Thing Called Love (PTL) eventually got the super sci fi magnificent video that this absolute masterpiece deserved. Huge song. 1 Love Is Only A Feeling (PTL)🏆 for me it is still their no 1 song. Great rocking, hairy, silly as usual but wow I rarely say beautiful and emotional with this band...but you can find that right here with this exceptional classic and love the mandolin plucks in there. The others ranked 11 Speed Of The Night Time (MH) clearly the best song on new album. Yet another great closer. Proper 80s rock gold shat out!🤔. 12 Mighty Wings (LOOK) their meatiest riff 'meets' one of their cheesiest choruses. Utter brilliance. 🧀🏆🖤 13 The Last Of Our Kind (title track) so good I'm struggling to mark songs down. The boys should be huger!❤️‍🔥 14 Love Is Not The Answer (HC) (main album version) uh yeah so good the same song is on here twice...the acoustic one has the edge though.. 15 Heart Explodes (EIC) overlooked great anthem... Love the jangly-tastic build 16 One Way Ticket (OWTTH...) Excellent upbeat start to their sophomore album. 17 Love On The Rocks With No Ice (PTL) it's simply a killer bit of hair metal falsetto on the chorus. So damn cool 😎. 18 Xmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) search your feelings Rock fans , you know it be true🎄🔔🔔🎅 one of my fave Xmas songs. 19 Get Your Hands Off My Woman (PTL) 2 songs into their debut and you know you are in fit something unusual on the heavy rock front....motherfucker!😂 You sense the self knowing humour in their makeup with this classic, 20 Knockers (OWTTH) I love me some big knockers like this one😂... Such an addictive swagger to this.... 21 Forbidden Love (HC) that downwards step into the chorus is genius. Very Queen yes. But very Bitch too!❤️‍🔥👍 22 Conquerors (Look) Frankie does great. Lovely closer. 23 Every Inch Of You (HC) a modern 70s rock n roll classic! Also funny as f***! 24 Is It Just Me? (OWTTH) borrows a wee bit riff chunky wise from best tracks on debut...but it's the 2nd album so it's still great. 25 With A Woman (HC) ACDC meets Queen at the bar and they get served by Boston done to perfection. Love the vocals! 26 Hazel Eyes (OWTTH...) That bit where the golden plucky guitar rides under the verse...❤️‍🔥 27 Nothings Gonna Stop Us (HC) fast frenzied and fab! 28 Wheels Of The Machine (LOOK) so cool. 29 Open Fire (LOOK) always loved the strangely lower tone of Justin's voice in this excellently smooth rocker. Seriously overlooked. 30 Easter Is Cancelled (title track) fab bridge, build, feels. 31 Motorheart (title track) full on Darkness does Flash/ Queen mode whilst having a wee?? Yes please. 32 Friday Night (PTL) really love this song's catchy chorus and it's so smoothly pure fun rock gotta smile 33 In Another Life (EIC) a whiff of Permission To Land standard great song writing is still great. 34 Everybody Have A Good Time (HC) that down tempo after the chorus, fir tonight may be our last, is a perfect antithesis for the crunchy 70s chorus. 35 Choke On It (EIC) perfect. Twisted and vitriolic. But daft. Perfect. 36 Sticky Situations (MH) always great at ballads this band. Love the strings and it's delicate harmonies in background of guitars. 37 Givin Up (PTL) alot of songs get overlooked bonnthis great debut deservedly because of the two huge huge hits, bit this us excellent rocker tastic Darkness struttin their thang. 38 Heavy Metal Lover (EIC) love this start to side 2....sweet lovin. 39 Black Shuck (PTL) cool deceptively straightforward opener that hits you nicely. 40 Holding My Own (PTL) beautiful landing to end their masterpiece debut. Wave your candles in the air hairy people 🤟🕯️!! 41 Dinner Lady Arms (OWTTH...) I know what they mean....oh and this song's verse is better than chorus. Almost U2 for a minute then it goes Boston on the chorus🤯 42 We Are The Guitar Men (EIC) more like we are the Queen men☺️ 43 How Can I Lose Your Love? (EIC) chirpy well done cheesy rock n roll. Signature Darkness. 44 Solid Gold (PS) status quo meets Def Lepperd with lyrics by Sparks 🤣. 45 Jussys Girl (MH) good song. Good slightly quirked mainstream rock well done. 46 Sarah O Sarah (LOOK) deceptively straightforward song later on this fab album. Hooky twinkly almost Fleetwood Mac style delightful. 47 Keep Me Hanging On (HC) overlooked lively rocker with hookey pop chorus. 48 Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time (OWTTH...) The blatent ballad almost doing ELO Darkness rears its blushing head properly here nicely. They do even better ones on later albums....right side of cheesy romance that few can pull off these days. 49 Hammer & Tongs (Look) Dad rock n roll hasn't died. Give me a D. Give me an arkness! Rex T!!🤟 50 Bald (OWTTH...) If Justin was higher in the mix this would be a 9/10 or more. Love the subtle guitar work on the build.... 51 She Just A Girl Eddie (HC) this band don't go below about 8/10 on songs much. Why?...well they have a knack of pulling great rock hooks and choruses together much like this song. Their bread and butter therefore always comes with a bit of class....yeah...a classy broth or summut🤔😂😎 52 Stampede of Love (HS) lovely sweet closer, 53 Southern Trains (are officially awful...) (PS) as a southern customer I can officially declare that the truth has here been sung... I have written a mere 5 complaints in the last two months...and got the usual defensive 'we just want the money so suck it up' replies👻🎸👍

A band that on the first song of its first album uses the lyric "that dog don't give a fuck" 8 times will not be denied. Not all of this is for me but I enjoy both over-the-top and understated. I was waiting for someone to take note of the 'descending hook' on 'Givin' Up'! (keen ear, Jason...)..an already phenomenal song lyrically and in attitude just goes into the stratosphere at that point....and keeps going! Maybe that's something like what hooks people on the 'skag' (reminds me of the scene in Breaking Bad when Jesse's girlfriend introduces him to it...not that I'd know...just the suggestion of artifice...) But what happened to "Mighty Wings'?!

I assume you'll want to save that for your finale episode in 30 years or so but please do it within the next 25 so I can hopefully still be alive (I plan on kicking it around 90). Okay, I listened to ten of the songs you guys recommended. They're not bad musically. On first reaction, they are over the top though, and the singing takes some getting used to. Didn't love them ,but they might grow on you, or I might have forgotten all about them in a few months.

I guess you sort of are trying not to be rude in your comment. Stop that, unless you mean it. Why am I the only honest person on here. Just admit you don't like them much at all. They are a one hit wonder. Why does everyone try to hide that? I believe in a thing called love is their only good song. Decent songs if I want to stretch are Friday and Jussy's Girl. I can only admire the guitar solos but I almost never like them. Maybe the most hell I've been through on Taste. Rush even if not a fan is truly fantastic next to Darkness

I dunno where you live, but in the UK they certainly weren't a one hit wonder. They had 5 top ten singles (as well as 4 top ten albums) And whether you like more of their songs or not doesn't make it gospel. Music is subjective, and a lot of people like a good many more of their songs.

Darkness has their fans but they also have a great deal of people who hate their music and see how they are imitators more than pathfinders, not that I care about that. I just don't like them. The word "Annoying" comes to mind with every song. They are a band that definitely you hate or like though I never would imagine they were big in England but mass appeal has little to do with quality.

@@oppothumbs1 Yeah, there's not much need to be a bellend in response, tbh. Loads of bands imitate others, loads of bands base their style on their idols. The Darkness fall into the latter part of that, they're heavily influenced by a few bands. I don't really see the issue with that. They're not so big here anymore, but they definitely were around Permission To Land and One Way Ticket. Now they just have a big enough fan base left to get their albums pushing up the chart. You're right that mass appeal has nothing to do with their quality. It's their excellent musicianship, clever (and often witty) lyrics and brilliant live performances that make them a great band. The great band part of that is obviously just my opinion (at least, saying they're great to listen to is), but the rest of it is straight facts, whether other people can see that or not. Many overlook them as a joke band and pay no attention to that kind of thing due to seeing them that way, and others simply just took a disliking to them and so don't give them any credit for how good they actually are at making music 🤷🏻‍♂️
