After owning both Rottweilers and Pit Bulls (trained and socialized from day 1), my Cane Corso is the best breed I have ever had the pleasure of owning and training. She's been socializing since 3.5 months, started training the moment I brought her home. She is now 2yo, 123lbs, super chill, and loving. She has out weighed me for about 6 months and if I was not her pack leader she would be a nightmare. I've watched this channel and Bruce Wayne for years prior to adding my Corso to my family and you are 100% correct in deterring anyone without prior positive experience with a guardian breed! As a owner of a female cane corso for almost 5 years, I’m 100% agreeing with you. People tend to see only the danger in her, not knowing how wonderful she is in the house, even with our jack russel of 16 years. She lets him lay in her bed while she then lays in front of him like as a mom would do. But like any other dog breed, you could easely make her like a true horror dog. Its how you bring them up

I agree, although before owning my corso the only dog i ever had was a jack russell. Ive seen alot of corso owners mainly on youtube saying "corsos arent for novice dog owners", and although I mostly agree, its certainly not impossible. I will say dont get one if you havent done research and if you arent willing to put in the work to raise and lead one. 3 years in, 1 male corso, 1 female corso/pit mix, and 13(now 4) accidental puppies later lol, I think I've done a pretty good job with this being not only my 2nd dog and 1st BIG dog, but a protection breed at that.

I love socializing my dog and training time. It crazy how she knows the difference between dogs she wants to be around and the ones she doesn't. Same with people. She's not aggressive toward them she just watches them. Even when we pass. Looks back at them like she's on point.

So my girl was 12 months when I got her..had to start her from scratch, no manners, no leash, not used to cars. It's been rough at times (I'm no spring chicken..but experienced with large dogs. Still they are very different. We continue working together and have a trainer.

i have a female and she loves every dog she has come in contact with except my dads crazy dog. she has putt her on her back a few times but never hurt her. she stays with my sister from time to time when er are on vacation. my sister has 2 danes and 2 golder retrivers. my corso will bring my sister toys because she learned the retrivers get praised for it lol. these dogs are supper smart and love to work and have a job

We had to put down our 2 and a half year old rescue female corso who had severe bone and joint issues yesterday. Loved her beyond words, but she was so much more work than our top pick male. She was always a nervous insecure dog even without the fear stages. It took over a year to build her confidence enough to get her comfortable around other dogs. Always had to have our head on a swivel when we took her out. Towards the end of her life she bloomed into this happy confident dog. She died without fear and surrounded by people who loved her at home❤… Having experienced some of the worst examples of the breed, if you are dead set on owning a Corso, PLEASE RESEARCH YOUR BREEDER and make sure that puppy is healthy with a sound temperament because it will tear you up, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially if you try to be lazy and cheap. You taught me so much Mia-moo daddy loves and miss you so damn much💔😭

Very true. The lines (pedigree) within powerful breeds are just about as important as the 'nurture' aspect. I get so sick of people saying it's only about how a dog is raised (training, socialization, etc...). People need to realize if their pup comes from a line (last 4 to 5 generations) of animals having aggressive, nasty, rage-prone, unstable temperaments, they can be 90% certain their pup will evolve with the same temperament.

Haven't owned a corso (yet), but at one time we had two Rottweilers. It's 100% true that you get what you put into any dog, but there's something special about that concept with working/guardian breeds. Our experience with our rotts was very positive. We're hoping to have another great experience with a corso in the not-too-distant future.

I have had a mastiff mix, and an Akita in the past. I now have a Corso who is 18 months old. I have socialized him since day 1, started training at day 1. He is the best dog i have ever had and is still a baby. I put so much work into him everyday so he does not become a statistic. He is a big lover with 90% of people and animals, there are people/dogs he doesn't like. I am very very conscious of the fact he can be/is a very large liability. I take it very seriously. BUT he is worth every moment i spend with him, every dollar spent on him, all the time and effort. He rewards me 10 fold. ❤ Great video as always Jason! Love ya'll ❤️

Thank you for making this video. Too many people are wanting this breed and the breeders are responding. I've fostered two this year, both being in the 1 year old range. That point where you say, whoa, I guess I should have trained him, he's too much! Rescues are overloaded with owner surrenders. Again, thanks for mixing in some reality, along with showing what a truly wonderful breed the Cane Corso is.

First corso for us, never had a guardian breed but we’ve committed since day one socializing her every weekend and when we can during the week. We adopted her at 7 months and she had been to a board and train but she continues to go to training every weekend. I’ve been watching these videos for years with Bruce Wayne and it has helped a TON with us knowing what it takes to give these dogs a good life

Draco is my 2 year old intact male and my 1st Cane Corso. He's definitely the most affectionate dog I've ever had, also the most protective. Always sitting or laying on me. We work every day on socializing/training him and hes finally really good walking around the neighborhood full of little yapper dogs 😂

I had a rotti/american bully mix i raised from a puppy that passed last year at 13. We knew the work required, and took the plunge and adopted a 2 year old 100 pound cane corso. He was taken from a junkie house that they think may have been fighting them, as there were four other xl guard dogs that were basically feral and had to be put down - we think they were either holding him back for breeding or happened to be the one they actually took care of, he needed a lot of work but his temperament is soo good and even though hes roughly 2 yr old, still very much a puppy and super smart. Within a couple months hes now good with our cat, good in the crate, walks like a dream, and is quickly becoming less reactive but still work to do there. Shortly after adopting he developed a heart arythmia pneumonia like symotoms so needed a battery of meds and isolation which slowed down socialization progress but we are getting there now, my mom has four small lap dogs and hes learned quickly to be careful around them. Lots and lots of work though, and a key to success imo is make sure you tire them out with lots of play and running. Ronan loves zooming around the yard and jumping super high to catch toys. Everyday he gets a few walks and at least a half hour of high impact exercise through play. This isn't a dog you can just throw in a crate for a big chunk of the day, we tried but he fought it quite a lot, we eventually expanded from the crate at night, to one blocked off room, to now he has the main floor to chill at night and when we are gone during the day, lots of chew toys etc and he's great now, doesn't destroy anything lol. I'm confident we'll get over his reactivity, he used to just walk between my gf and i, scared, and would try to chase bunnies /squirrels etc. With prong training, he now explores more, heels when we want him to, and will sit down when he sees something that he wants to chase and just watch it. (for the most part). Big progress, tons of work, best dog ever i love him like family already.

I have two 9 month old male Cane Corso’s. I am so in love with them. It’s been pretty smooth so far but, the smaller male is more energetic and has more of an attitude compared to my bigger one. I swear he acts just like a cat. It’s so crazy. They are maturing and I know things can change with them, but I am taking it day by day. Fingers crossed that it stays smooth.

Great video! I don't agree with everything you say, but IMO, you are spot on. Unfortunately, CCs are THE breed of the day now, with most people having no business owning them. Sadly, it leads to many dogs being relinquished to shelters and many being euthanized. If people want a guardian breed but don't have the dedication that you do, they should obtain an English Mastiff, or perhaps a Bullmastiff

You are absolutely correct when you say, carefully choose the breed you want, cause it can turn bad so quickly. I worked with CARE rescue for 5 years resocializing and rehoming fighter breeds. Chow chows, pitties and rotties who went into red zone behavior. Most of them got abused cause their owners didn't have time or didn't care enough to work with them, and so they were then abandoned for being "bad" dogs. I'm so sick of people wanting a potentially dangerous breed for "status" but not knowing how to train the dog, then the dog gets destroyed for what? Please people and these are wonderful dogs and but not for beginners. If you don't know how to show them leadership and don't have $ for professional training, DONT get one. Think it through please.

I worked at a dog rescue kennel many years ago and one of the most experienced red level trainers were working with a CC and one day it attacked her. It crushed her arm so it got amputated (she was lucky). I've had Dobermans since I was 12 years old. I love the breed so much. Lost 2 of my Dobes to DCM. Recently I felt the time was right to get another dog. I rescued this time, a 7 month old female Cane Corso. She had a tough start, and I can't believe she's mine and she's beyond smart. This breed has quickly stolen my heart. She is very obedient and eager to please. Thank you for your videos, even with my past experience with Dobermans, I am a complete novice with this breed and I want to do right by her. I totally agree with every single point you talked about. We have 3 dogs. Two full blood Cane Corsos (female and male) and one female German Corso. The 2 females are obedient and were fairly easy to train. Our 19 month old, 140lb male is polar opposite. He is stubborn to the max. We have had to put a lot more time and training into him then the females and he still has far to go. You are not kidding about the time and dedication needed for this breed. This breed is definitely not for the average person. We wouldn't trade them for the world.

I have a 8 month old male cc he is the sweetest boy , love him with all my heart . But these days i think he became so territorial. He doesn’t let people (especially kids) pet them, he is okay with walking or looking but when someone tries to pet him he sometimes barks at them . How can we solve this problem? Do you think he does this because he is insecure ? I will do everything to help him and become a much more well behaved dog. Dont want people to think he is scary because he is such a good boy .

I was not prepared of exactly how MUCH a Cane Corso can eat!!!! We have five other dogs and Trooper eats more then the other five combined!.. WE feed homegrown/raised raw so our freezer is depleting quickly.. LOL.... Time to hit the butcher room....

My pup is 5 months now. She loves going out and meeting people. I never pass up a can I pet your dog. If im unsure of the person I make sure she stays calm by re assuring her she good and its OK.

Just be careful because that also can backfire on you. Yes take advantage but you also need to be able to say no. I have seen dogs that were never told no growing up and then they see a person and start to almost get out of control because they want attention from the new person.......so I would suggest 10% of the time saying no so the dog starts to understand it cannot be a every time thing.

About The time thing i would like to say they need about a hour of walk or play or just a ride in the car / truck ive learned with mine that these corsos are such a pack animal ( probably all gaurdians ) that they want to be with you as much as possible and love to learn so embrase that or pick a different breed .

I had one I spent 2 yrs socializing and level 2 off leash his obedience was off the charts . Work and time I recommend a prong collar heavy to medium. . These dogs can break leash clips and collars if a threat is perceived. CONTROL and loving alpha leader and lots of training. I biked with a Springer dog device for bikes . Mine was very loyal and loving to my kids and family.

We rescued our female rottie (Florence) when she was around 4months old. We have had quite a few rotties since 96 and she was the very first one to show food aggression (To our 2 senior rotties). It took me a few weeks to get it to lower and slowly we managed to get her over that. We still are trying with the aggression to humans. She will take us, and she took immediately to our daughter and our grand kids (5,3rs old). We know she was abused before we got her and it was evident the first time we took her to the vet 2 days after we brought her home. She was growling at anyone that came close and we were shocked cause NONE of our dogs ever had that issue and even the vet said the same. What ya'll are saying is 100% true. Its a constant effort to train/maintain these dogs. We love our rotties and we feel we were sent to pick up Florence in order to give her a loving home. Its also expensive (Walter alone is epileptic so all his vet bills have totaled over 20K in his close to 5-year life), but we cant see life without having these angels in it as im sure yall feel the same about your babies (yea, we know they are dogs, but they are also sentient beings, and we truly operate our pack on mutual respect). My Corso, is a real headache. We have been training ourselves,as muchas we are training the dog. We failed him in the beginning but we are doing a course soonest now, and he is doing a lot better, bit it is a slow, work in progress. I owned Akitas in the past, and thought because we did well with them and they are so stubborn, we would have no problem with a Corso, but they are much different dogs.

I’ve fostered every breed imaginable and I’ve owned pitbulls. I now have a 1 year old cane corso and she’s currently in a 6 week board and train because she’s extremely dog reactive (but dog friendly) and human aggressive. Shes never ever liked people since was 8 weeks old. It’s impossible to socialize and scared cane corso when she refuses to go near people. I did rescue her from a bad situation which didn’t help. But this breed is absolutely not for everyone. It may forever breed but when people ask, I tell them it’s not the safest dog to own.

Hi Jason! I have a 1 year and 8-month-old male Dogo Argentino. I have worked with him since day one. He has been socialized from day one with both people and animals, but because he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia when he was 1 year old and had to be operated on both legs, which meant a recovery period of about 3-4 months, he hasn’t had contact with other dogs since then. Lately, he has become very aggressive towards some male dogs (the neighbors’ dogs in the area). This means I have to avoid walking him near other dogs to prevent a fight. He is allowed to run freely only in the fields, and when he encounters packs of stray dogs, he is just curious; he isn’t aggressive towards them (the strays run away from us anyway because Paco is a big dog, approximately 46 kg or 100 pounds). As for his discipline, I would give him a score of 9 out of 10, but I need to help him be calmer around male dogs. Raising a large breed dog is not easy, and the challenges are much greater than with smaller breeds, let’s say. Best regards!

I raised and rescued Rottweilers. Of the numerous rescues we had, there was not one that we weren't able to turn around. Most of the rescues were from people that had no idea what they were getting into. The cute fuzzy balls of fur when their young, but they grow into very large and unmanageable dogs if not trained...As you said training is paramount, don't buy one unless you have the time, patience, and ability to train them as well as exercise them.

As a handler to a 97 pound sarplaninac I completely agree. Luckily my girl is quite "docile" for her breed but they are quite know to turn quite quickly. But she's very loving up until she perceive a threat then the soft brown stuff hits the big swirly thing. My girl is a rescue so our first year together was a bit of a mess to be honest but it was worth it. Stern patience was the key for us.

I have Corso/Queensland. Only 80 lbs, but with the speed and agility of a Queensland and the hard head stubbornness of a Corso it's daily discipline training. The mix makes an amazing hiking dog.

I have a very good invisible fence. Works for German shepards, American bullies and labradors. All my neighbors got them and no dog ever crossed. My question is, will this work for a Cane corso, with professional training of course? i have 1/2 acre for dogs to run around. My house is 1 acre total

We’ve owned mastiffs for 20 years. Our first one was a Cane Corso. We both had owned labs for 15 years. We had researched the breed, breeders and trainers before deciding on a Corso. It payed off as she was amazing. Yes, I had to work with her everyday, but it payed off. After that we graduated to English Mastiffs. The EM’s as just as protective, but have a little less drive. The two that we have now are an ideal body weight of 200 lbs and yes we still work, exercise with them everyday. I’ve had a few instances through the years where the dogs had to go into protect mode, but their training kept me, the dogs and the jerks who didn’t initially see the dogs safe. Even with all of the training and experience we have had with our 6 mastiffs I am still learning. Each dog has needed work with different issues… resource guarding, lunging , pulling…of course health issues have been different with each dog too. It’s definitely a commitment, but well worth it. Everything Jason has touched on in the video is right on and important information. Thank you Jason for being such a great ambassador for the breed!

Thanks for sharing your story. And that's another thing people don't realize that you mentioned. That even though you have the same breed there can be massively different things to work on. BW low prey drive....JJ HIGH prey drive. BW was a little sh$# as a pup. JJ was far easier to deal with growing up thru puppyhood and adolescence.

I had a 90lb Boxer, he was amazing, high energy at times but also chill, now I have a female Cane Corso rescue, she is 17 months old, I have her in a boarding training facility. Definitely do your homework before you commit.

I have a 1 year old female and everything they say about the breed is true other than my girl is on the smaller side and doesn't drool just yet, fingers crossed lol. She's great and very smart. It was much easier training her compared to my 10 year old pitbull who was very stubborn when she was young.

I lost my lab / boxer mix to heartworm and heart failure last fall at 7 yrs old . he weighted 120 at his max and was a natural guardian I got a male corso in January he now 9 months and 105 and has been pretty easy to train (easier than my last dog ) and knows his place in MY pack / his pack . I bring him almost everywhere and he's very socialized and happy. He has a natural want to use his nose to find his people and treats ( its a fun game for him ) so I'm thinking about doing nose work with him to see if he has the ability to find things on command or track game or people in the woods. What's your opinion on nose work to keep him stimulated

About the electric fence. Mine worked absolutely perfect for my corso. She respected the boundaries even without wearing the collar. She would not cross it even if excited by passersby.

I’m glad my mastiff Aussie Shepard mix is a good boy. My daughter and son walk him. The looks we get when my 9 year old daughter is walking him is hilarious. Especially since she’s not much taller than he is and he has 100 pounds on her. I do stay close and I am always watching and looking for stuff that might excite him, mainly his friends he normally meets on walks. Because he thinks it’s play time lol. They are the best breed in my opinion. And out of all the other dogs that show up at school to pick the kids up, Conan is the kids favourite, he’s always swarmed by the kindergarten kids. They find it a fun game to see who gets lol slimed by his slobber.

I am so interested in this breed. Like I said in my previous post I’ve had boxers and they have many similarities as what you speak on the Cane Corso. I would really like to continue to learn from you. The one thing I will say is Boxers are very very high energy and yes vet bills on my one boxer were high. I really like how they look like they have more of an even keel personality. That’s what attracting me to them.

Training is really a part of our relationship with my two cane corso, intact females. But my two dogs are a little different, as one is a rescue. But I take them out constantly, almost everywhere I go! But I happen to own my own business and I’m able to spend the time and money it takes to raise these girls. People often say that Stella is a golden retriever at heart and that is what I wanted. However, she’s still VERY protective of me. We also have two cats, but I do exactly like you did to teach my pack their order. But you’re right, these dogs are NOT for everyone.

I would not advise any first time dog owner to get a guardian breed, there are far too many liabilities with what they are capable of with such lack of experience. I would suggest a more mild mannered dog that fits your lifestyle. If you are not active do not get a high energy breed. Learn from that dog and then consider a guardian breed down the road. Most dogs will make a good deterrent for in home due to just barking alone.

Resources guarding , i have 4 in the house,2 belong to my daughters, both males i have a male and 2 females(fixed) my guy has attacked his siblings. I know they are triggers. Its rare as we keep them separate and he knows to leave it. He is the best trained , also the most dominant. I want to figure out how to get him not to do this. We are careful with triggers we know.

My 4 yr old spayed female Cane Corso went to puppy training and off leash and is very lovable with humans and some dogs she knows when she wants to be bothered now but the little dogs she not interested in. Now I have a 2 yr old intact male Cane Corso who went to puppy training and off leash (e collar) and is now still in group training doesn’t seem to want pets until he’s use to you but will sit an stay while talking to other people and listen but with other dogs not so much besides the group of dogs he grew up with he loves and protects them. I take them both in stores as I can and try to desensitize them to noises but here recently they have been running away from noises and if it starts storming. What should I do? Add in even more socializing......if they are apprehensiveds of strangers have the stranger give them a very high reward treat.....also make sure your dog is hungry so they will be more accepting of the treat. Could just be his personality and is not a fan of people.....just like all humans are different and some like to be social....some just are not that social. Look back at the parents temperament and that usually gives a good indication how they will be.

Does my 2.5kg maltese count as a guard breed? She barks whenever she heards any unidentified noise, whenever anyone enters our building and guards over me all the time, following me around the house and springing in my defense if I'm asleep and anyone enters the room. She can't do much, but for sure she's a good alarm. But jokes aside, I could never own one of these huge, strong dogs, but they are beautiful, they just require a lot of space, time and energy and probably also a lot of experience with dogs, and unfortunately i don't have any of them.

Drool. But really the downside I have with mine is walking with my family and my other two dogs, one a puppy. And theres no getting around this because the drive is too strong for it. If anyone or any dog approaches us the corso is really on point. You don’t want to approach us in any rapid or overly animated manner. Any dog that runs up to play is getting submitted hard. And there’s zero chance a stranger can interact with our puppy. Outside of the home with just me he’s fine. So long as I’m talking to the stranger he’s fine. Strangers can pat him. No problems at all. But all of us going for a walk together and he’s working as his genes just go into overdrive . So basically we avoid it because if he gets triggered there’s no stopping him.

Hi Jason…I have a 180 lb Great Dane and he does not know his size-he’s an absolute sweetheart but he broke my nose with his big Mastiff head🥴 Of course he felt terrible and kept laying his head on my nose licking me where it was hurt and that in itself was painful… We have a Blue Doberman too and like JJ, he is extremely active/hyper…he is hypervigilant about protecting me-I’m disabled and I think he knows it-he is my daughters dog but extremely protective of me-we just had an incident the other night with a Pitbull-he had gotten loose and was running up the stairs at me and Jaeger-this Pittie has bitten people and is aggressive-it took all of my strength to get Jaeger behind me so I could quickly get him inside-he saw that dog coming up the stairs at us and he posted up right in front of me, growling at the other dog… I have to admit I was worried about Jaeger attacking him if he got closer to us…once I got Jaeger in back of me , I opened the door to our house and Jaeger quickly replied to my command of going inside… did I handle this correctly or did I do something wrong by him? Jaeger barked until the other dog was caught by their owner and taken home!! The sad thing was that it was a little kid trying to get this Pitbull back on his lease and back in his collar he slipped-this little boy was too young to try to wrangle this big Pittie and he definitely could not have handled breaking up a dog fight if one had happened!!! I was more than angry at the parents… the little boy has no business walking this aggressive dog!!!😡

To preface: I am not looking for condescending answers to this. Control yourself. I am a long haul trucker, I drive solo between Canada and the US. It has been getting increasingly dangerous out here, especially as a woman and by myself. I have been considering a guardian companion, but I am not quite sure on the breed as of yet. I am also very familiar and comfortable with large dog breeds, training, and leadership. I'm essentially stuck between Pits or Corsos. In terms of socialization, truck stops, rest areas, and even shippers and customers are daily, several times a day. I already have a puppers with me, she is a rescue Toy Aussie and up there in age, walks and being out of the truck are normal. I haul open deck, so I have gained quite a lot of strength as a result, all of which I don't need for Miss Reba, lol. She is a super sweet love bug, and the absolute worst for protection. 😂 Would a Corso do well as a truck companion? Size does matter, I get that, but isolation doesn't exist in my life with companions. I have to be out of this truck every couple of hours outside of sleeping. Anyone else drive OTR with a large guardian? Does their sex make a difference in temperament and adaptability? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sex always will equate to differences in size and personality. They need a good amount of exercise more so than just getting out of the truck and walking around a little. They will need (not as a puppy but as an adult) daily walks 3 miles, areas to run free, you need to be able to give them a job to do to satisfy them as they are a working breed. And they take up a ton of horizontal space so they need plenty of room to be able to lay down and fully stretch out. Hope this helps a little.

@@jasoncorey Oh, I don't just take tiny little walks for 3 minutes, lol. I average 4 miles a day as it is. I'm very active, in spite of the reputation truckers have as being lazy. I prefer rest areas as they do have space for off leash more often than not. And they are cleaner. Bed space may be an issue, so who knows. It is only myself and my little pup, and that is the way it will stay as far as I am concerned (as in I have zero desire for a partner). I am also still in the research phase, I am really taking my time figuring this out as I don't want to make the wrong decision for a puppy. Thank you! 😊

2 Akitas and very little concentration on training. They knew I was boss. No sofa or high places. That means authority. Eating order protocol. No approaching me when I eat. Randomly changing direction during walking to emphasize that I am leader. I enter places first. My nature is calm and authoritative naturally. Mutual trust is crucial. Rules first, affection last. They are not your kids. They are predators. Weak people need not apply.

As with all breeds, careful understanding the genetics of what you are buying. Most American Corsi are more mild in tenperment. However there are European bloodlines in America. So be careful. For example if you come across a rare bloodline like a formido, DO NOT buy one unless you have a good deal pf experience with aggressive dogs. They are not like the rest of the Cane Corsi. They are born sentry dogs. Although some say all cane corsi are sentry dogs. I disagree. There is a huge difference. One can be socialized in a reasonable amount of time. So know what your buying, there is a reason the are called the dogs of war. Hell hound was actually derived from the Corso. Hands down, they are worth the effort for those who are serious about having a real guard dog/protection dog.

I have been researching this breed for about 2 years now, and I would love to be able to own one of these beautiful dogs. However, I would like to get some experience working with/training some of these dogs before owning one to make sure that I can take care of the dog without having a stroke or the dog eating me in my sleep. Where would you recommend I find some more information about the breed besides Will Atherton and American Standard Dog Training? Could you also name any shelters in Pennsylvania that I could volunteer at so I can get a better understanding of what these dogs are like in person? Honestly, any new information is helpful.
