You say that attraction "is built in the context of respect and admiration", but quite often women are attracted to the "bad boys" who exhibit neither...why is that? You also talk about women picking up on men who are jaded against women in general - don't you agree that men also see this coming from women (them coming into a new relationship/encounter with a negative bias)? Bottom line: people of either gender need to start a relationship by putting THEIR best foot forward - if the other party doesn't reciprocate, then move on.

these are all really great points! absolutely re coming into the encounter with a negative bias - i see this coming from all directions. There’s a persistent adversarial dynamic / mindset that is so unhelpful - from both men & women. re the allure of the bad boy - this is an interesting one, & i think there can be different variables at play in different circumstances - including the appeal of “what we can’t have” + the muddled lines between excitement, attraction, & danger.
