Last year I choose to ditch the squash, beets and eggplant plants that I couldn’t give away - and replaced them with the odd, hard to find Korean vegetables that I use in my cooking daily. It was so much more rewarding to run out of homegrown ingredients than putting them on my curb to give away and no one taking them. :) Don’t grow the stuff that everyone else does! Grow what you want!

Jessica, you inspire me and love your passion. I am one of those grannies 73 years young and since I am in an apartment I have an indoor garden of green plants. After watching your green stalk video, I am sending one to my grandson and his new to be wife in April as a wedding gift. I like the thought that they will be thinking of me whenever they use it. God’s blessing to you, Mia and the boys. Victoria from Raleigh North Carolina.

Lol Jess! I usedto get so depressed during winter. Then it dawned on me; THERE ARE NO FLIES! I can milk without swatting flies. I can bake and not worry about flies, I can prep beds , sweat and no flies. No scorpions, no ants, and no " no see ums". Its a wonderful time of the year!

Bringing it all home tomorrow. It’s 24x32 with 6’ side walls. All I have to order is the wiggle wire, the tracks, the plastic and the lumber 🙌. Just wish I could skip winter and go straight into spring lol

Planning the garden is keeping me motivated to heal. Had a large brain tumor removed at the end of September and have had to relearn how to feed myself, write, etc. Am working on re learning how to walk. Have ordered my onion plants, seed potatoes, strawberry plants, and seeds--i a determined to be out there by late spring to plant it all.My garden last summer didn't do great because i was too sick to adequately care for it--but this year WILL be better. My healing is in God's hands and i know i am in His classroom right now, learning patience and trust. Thank you for all your videos and devotionals.

I grew up on a farm and have longed for a homestead/farm in my adult life for many, many years. Last year, my dream came true and I bought a 28-acre homestead. I always pictured having a big, red barn and a pond on that homestead and now I have it!! My life is changing so much and there's always so much to be done, but I absolutely love it. Even before moving here, I had my own little homestead going. I named it Winginit Homestead. That name always seemed appropriate and it still does today also!! Love my property and my animals!! I learned this year, after the design of the garden changed about 4 times when my husband surprised me throughout spring and summer with a bunch more beds/Greenstalks (not a bad dilemma to have!) that my garden plan is less of a plan and more of a guideline 🤣. I must say there’s something so enjoyable about seeing the goats behind you as you’re talking (and since I’m writing this as I’m watching, also the one with that needed some love…and a selfie😂). Your comments about not realizing how big the barn was until you stood in it brought back memories of us building our home. I’m HORRIBLE with space, dimensions…all the things(just ask my husband 😂). One suggestion is really plan out your milk room. Think of all the tasks that you did at your other farm, at this farm in the field and condense those tasks into that room. Will you have a refrigerator to cool milk quickly and keep snacks for long kidding nights. We also keep meds etc in our fridge. Emergency supplies are kept in there as well. An electric kettle for making warm molasses water for new goat moms. A coffee maker for me for those long nights on kid watch. It is so exciting to watch your dreams come to fruition! Good bless y’all!

No procrastinating cosmetic delays (if it were me) on how each step will effect where to place hooks 🪝, latches, poop barrows, bins, blankets etc. Showing us the build so far is inspiring some great tips from followers. Love the decision on straw/shavings/chip covered soak-away expandable animal-stall floors. As your father said, tweaking is all part ‘n parcel when building a home. Those strawberries coming back to life! Excited for you all as you journey through 2022. Hope Ben🤕 is recovering well.

I -love- growing cherry tomatoes, and thanks to you, Jess, I grew 11 varieties of them last summer. Not only were they snacks, but I used them in salads and pasta dishes (While the pasta cooks: put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan, add some minced onions and garlic, get them toasty, then toss in whole cherry tomatoes and cover. After about 3 minutes, the tomatoes will have burst. Use a potato masher to squish them, then add your seasonings like oregano, basil, etc and let it all simmer. After pasta is done, add some of the pasta water to the pan of tomatoes, let simmer a couple more minutes. SO delicious, especially when you use multiple varieties of cherry tomato in it!). I dehydrated extra cherry tomatoes for use in additional pasta recipes in the off-season. It's actually the large tomatoes that I don't have much use for. So cherry tomato lovers, we really CAN use our harvest for more than snacks. :)

It is so hard! We are building more raised beds, moving 2 beds, then planning to build more. I get 2 days a week, if the weather cooperates. What's hard is staying on one task, when I have 5 more in my head!

Great advice. Grow what you eat. I grow in containers so space is limited. I will grow at least one new item each year. Next year I’m growing at least 4 new things. Excited to see what you grow on your new property. Thanks for sharing.💚

I love in zone 8b. We can just about grow something all year....maybe not 1 full month. But the weather is bipolar. It has been cold right before Christmas, now it feels like early summer. Regaurdless, my cool crop has plenty of food growing! I've got purple cayenne peppers and some other pepper varieties planted, under grow lights in the house. Gardening just gets better every year, no matter the outcome!

Can't wait to see your barn finally completed! I love watching videos with new goat kids in them. We are in the middle of our summer growing season, so lots of green tomatoes at the moment, cucumbers coming in, and beans about to drop!

Jess Get that space on paper even if you have to go out and buy a drafting board and grid paper. Starting in the potager is a great idea. Divide it into sections and just plant several sections in green manure for this year. It will be good for the soil and maybe help control the weeds. Remember...that native pasture grass is going to try to kick your butt. Yes push yourself but only plant one or 2 plants until you find out that you like it. The barn is going to be a game changer. A bathroom and wash up space for buckets etc.. It is a long way to the house. I hate to tell you this but some day you will be sixty and that will be a really long way.lol

Great advice! A few years I grew weird outliers and ended up with unused produce. Never again. I'll grow mostly what we eat, together with a ton of herbs, flowers, and companion plants. The symbiotic relationships they have are so beneficial for attracting good insects and repelling the more destructive ones. It's lovely to be able to make up a little posey bouquet for garden visitors to take home too, and I keep a little stock of small vases. Growing a few beauties each year (striped tomatoes, a few new flowers, showy peppers and eggplants, and new herbs) keeps it interesting. A few will become permanent keepers. Share the others.

Hey y'all, I like the idea of taking the vegetables your family will eat and deciding how much to plant. Then I look at what is in the grocery store. What are the other varieties avaliable? I pick the different color, texture, size or shape you can not buy and grow those for fun and for eating and taking great photos of.

I’m having to redo my raised garden beds… the reused material I used to build them 3 years ago are now needing to be replaced… and trying to get our foundation started on our house has slowed me down in the garden.. but now that that’s out of the way I have more time to get my beds ready.. y’all’s place is looking so good and I’m proud to see how far you’ve gotten in really such a short time 💚

I always go crazy with the seed catalogs. Better to cultivate gardener friends and share and exchange seeds between you. Everyone saves money and still can grow a nice variety. I'm hooked on winter sowing for seedlings now and will give the extras to the food bank or friends. These were a big hit last year and newbies are so excited when they grow their own produce. Some people even left seedlings at the leaf mulch piles to be shared. Teach someone to fish (or give them a healthy seedling) and they'll learn to feed many!

Thank you for sharing your life and journey with us. I found your channel a year ago when we moved out of neighborhood onto 5 acres. It’s exciting to be planning and growing along with you and your new place. Your advice to slow down and be okay with the slow growth is so good. I am itching to get back to my baby garden that was a success and good classroom this year and dreading winter a bit. So, I just enrolled in your garden course so I can learn and plan through winter.
