As far as the operational aspects outside the machine, they are pretty closely matched. Depending on the job application, the close radius machine may be better or it may not. Most of what I do is in tight spaces so it would definitely be an advantage for me. You didn't talk about the advantage/disadvantage of rubber tracks. There again, rubber tracks are an advantage with my jobs because I have to track across concrete/asphalt driveways a lot. Some of the other stuff y'all covered is pretty negligible for my purposes but, I think the inside of the machines (creature comforts) would make my decision for me as well as the maintenance stuff(labeled and well laid out components). Hyundai put a lot of thought into their design. Durability of the machine and dealer support is really important to me also. Good video!

I'm not sure if and how much more the steel tracks weigh over the rubber ones but I'd guess that with the extra weight and width that the tipping point would be close to the same when stretching them out with the concrete block. Great open and impartial video Mike!

Double top rollers. Part of the reason is the rubber pads are thicker than the steel pads. The second roll helps alleviate pinching of material so more falls out during travel for less aggravation. of rubber edges. Mini excavators have webbing between pads, helps self clean. Larger machines would chew it right out due to weight. Correct track tension is critical to pad life for rubber and steel pads for that matter. The only draw back to second roll I see is one more contact point to chains but in long run saves replacing pads prematurely. That's my thought on rolls. The blade edge is cheaper to build up with hard face rod to keep square I think. It's really only here and there use as light duty as I would keep it. Back in the 80's a local concrete contractor bought a Komatsu with an undercarriage comparable to a Cat D6, single grouser pads. A 10 ft blade with fold-in corners to stay legal width on trailer. With a 1yd bucket. An absolute BEAST on site work.

I wonder if there is a difference on pressure from the curl of the bucket? Seems this would be handy info when pulling stumps or breaking rock. Also the first test with the weight may be closer if you take the steel track and applied that extra width to the Hyundai.

normaly i rent a cat 301 to clear my fence lines, dig post holes in my hard red clay, an auger will not cut it, clean up winter bed pack from my live stock, and fix road pipes, but because of your videos i thought i would try a Hyundai 35z-9 witch is a 1000 Lb heaver machine then the cat 301, i rented it for 5 days but ended upp having it for 7 days and still didnt get what i needed done, this rental was a total waste of $1700, the machine couldnt did the red clay with out fighting every control at the same time, to even cut 2 to 3 inches of clay out, the stick boom you couldnt even rack brush up or pull the top of a fresh dirt pile forward or back using just the stick boom, it would hit the dirt and move it about 3 inchs and stop dead, it would not steer to the left, it was like the right track took all the power .. i sunk in mud to the top of the tracks, black mud, and the tracks would not even turn,, i did some videos on this that i will be uploading to show how bad it was, the cat 301 would dig 10 time better in this same ground, i got so mad at my self for renting it, even climbing my hills it would all most come to a stop going up, this 35z-9 is 8200Lbs so i had to pay to have it moved to my place as my trailer only good fot 7000Lbs, the cat 301 i move my self as it is only 7200Lbs, this machine only had 1355 hours on it, i was so disappointed in my self for changing from what i have aways rented, and the cat 301 is cheaper to rent, i had to take a bigger Hyundai with steel tracks one time because they over booked the 2 cat 301, it was a really heavy machine, but because they screwed up the booking, they moved it to my job site and back for free, that thing would not dig anything like the cat 301 it was a fight to dig a trench for out door hot water furnece lines down 5 feet in clay, it ware me out bad trying to dig a 60 foot long trench, but i thought because it was an old machine with over 7000 hours the pumps were shot, but after renting this one, i think, they just have crapy pumps in them, now i have to put out more money to rent the cat 301 o finish what i need done, witch i should have been able to to in 5 days to start with, as i have done these same jobs many times with the 301 on the farm, one more thing i want to add about the Hyundai 35z-9 i could not pull a 3 inch poplar tree out of black dirt and weather i was across the track or over the blade i could not tip it up of the ground, were the cat 301 i would stand it on its nose if it didnt come out of the ground, and the thumb on the 35z-9 was usless, the tumb teeth dont rech the bucket, and you have to roll the bucket all the way all most in in order for it to brab a brush pile witch ends in digging up ground in order to get the bottom of the pile, picking up one limb or rock was imposible, the thumb strock is way far to short

I’ve rented a Kubota 121-3 and a cat 305e. The Kubota has more hp. But only weighs 9k lbs, the cat weighs 11,400. That cat was smoother operating as well as a lot more power. A stump the Kubota wouldn’t even think about moving, the cat picked it up and never flinched

Was there a HYUNDAI used on Parker’s Trail in South America last year? This year Parker was in Australia and they had trouble with old equipment searching for nuggets and was travelled a long way pulling a pilot size mill.mounted on a trailer. This did not workout as a mining operation but more of a prospecting excursion for nuggets. The guide for this adventure was a Tyler Mahoney from a mining family. I am sure we will be seeing more from Tyler in the future. This woman was smart and beautiful young woman. I think Parker should remain in the YUKON. There is a lot of mining activity in AUSTRALIA but is best left for the big operators that will invest $500,000,000 or more. You are not Parker and Parker is not this. OK YOU WIN. PARKERS TRAIL FALLS UNDER THE CATEGORY OF A SCRIPTED TV SHOW. GOLD RUSH IS THE REAL DEAL.

I wonder how much more side reach you'd get with the same width pads. The wider pads would make for a little wider machine. Wider = more stable.
@tmacie24 жыл бұрын
@Pennsylvania Mike The wider pads should have a little effect due to leverage. Granted its not too much since the pads aren't attached to the track frame. The counterweight certainly has more to do with it, I was just thinking about the pads themselves.
@timothyball31444 жыл бұрын
@@tmacie2 Since the machine will pivot on the lower rollers, I doubt there would be much advantage there, but the wider pads would be heavier, so there would be a little bit more counterweight on the other side. With 40 pads and just five extra pounds each, that's something like... Uh. 6000 pounds? No. That's not right. Maybe Mike can help on the math.😂 Ok, seriously, it's 200 pounds and that may be of more help than the width though the weight is closer to the center of the machine than the counterweight.
@toddreynolds88754 жыл бұрын
Wide pads suck on an excavator or dozer. Wear quicker. More stress on finals when turning. Dont turn good. , unless you need em for swam work. I will take narrow track anyday

I wonder if the blade differences are more because of the end use and the tracks each machine has. With the Volvo having 16 more inches of track width over the Hyundai along with steal tracks it simply can handle a larger blade. Since the Hyundai is on narrower rubber tracks it makes sense to me that it would have a less substantial blade. I was mostly surprised by how close they were when reaching out with the block, considering how much further out the Volvo's counter weight is.

Parker on GOLD RUSH made over $12,000,000 on DISCOVERY TV SHOW and probably the best 24 year old minor in the world. Here is the deal. He makes a lot more than $20,000 from the scripted part (paying him to allow filming of his operation.) Discovery has got a huge deal for product placement of John Deere Big Equipment used by 3 operations probably 20 pieces of VOLVO equipment that they get a very good deal on. Parker also has CATERPILLAR D 10, D 9 DOZERS OF HIS OWN AND MILLIONS IN WASH PLANTS. TONY BEETS and Kids have and interesting barge mounted Draglines for mining as well.GOLD RUSH is hugely successful for more than 10 years with millions of viewers world wide. Now listen it does not look good on You to demean show as being phoney. Bad news for You. JOHN DEERE would not waste millions on phoney advertising and it just would not work for sales if equipment was staged and not very real time production. The OUTDOORS WITH THE MORGANS probably got a Product Placement deal for 2 small KUBOTA TRACTORS. DIRT PERFECT should maybe try and get a Product Placement deal from HYUNDAI for their small excavator You are comparing. JOHN DEERE probably would not be interested in DIRT PERFECT.

The biggest difference the Hyundai is built for utility work, working on a street doing water lines your working in tight areas its why the boom swings back far so you can load a truck. That has a caveat you can whack the cab of the machine with the bucket if your not careful. I've ran reduced tail swing 158 Komatsu you can have a scare if you have a load sticked out over the side and you bounce. There is a benefit having a machine with an ass on it why do you think forestry machines have extra counterweight. I'm used to running full size hoes with standard counter weight being 200-210 size.

Mike did they give a new one after the way you put down the Volvo in your Hyundai sales pitch, to be fair you should have had two machines of the same production year not 3or so years apart, I doubt then that the Hyundai will be in as good a condition as the Volvo even if you could find one that is, as for a mechanics view point I would go for the Volvo ,because there is MORE room and space to work on them than the Hyundai,also Volvo’s are made to a better standard of workmanship than the Hyundai so there again there is no comparison, they are at different ends of the market, a good machine all round (Volvo) and one that’s made to lower price bracket, in my view mike they both move dirt but one will last longer that the other which is already a proven fact
