I watched it live and remember thinking I wonder what Ace & Peter look like.

I always thought Gene looked more like Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer rather than a pizza shop worker, but in hindsight, I can see it. 😆

That's the day I discovered that Gene Simmons was scarier looking without the makeup than with the makeup.
@stanlee-eq7lu7 күн бұрын
Even scarier is the phony porn video. Gene is among the most desperate people I've ever encountered who tries as he may to stay relevant, but never works out. Even Madonna is more relevant than Gene.

I saw Kiss 6 times. The first 4 was 84, 86, 87, and 88 during the no makeup era. It wasn’t until years later I saw them and they had the makeup back on. They always put on a great show, all I wanted to hear was Detroit rock city and God of thunder. 😂

Back then, MTV was cool. What actually caused it to begin to suck was as the channel was called Music Television, Michael Jackson was going to sue them because they claimed to play music videos, but not his. That's when MTV began to suck more than a vacuum cleaner convention. It's last leg to stand on and be cool was Beavis And Butthead.

I remember seeing the original 4 unmasked inside the National Enquirer back in 78/79. I also remember seeing a lot of Gene without makeup when he was dating Cher. So this "event" wasnt really a big deal for me when it happened

Yes Vinnie Vincent saved KISS from dying in the 80's. VV set the stage for the Hair Metal Version of KISS. And 100%, the best KISS going during that era were VV ones. To the point that they had to get him back for Revenge. The non makeup era started with a bang with VV and end with a bang with VV.

I was 20 when this happened. I had seen them in 75,76,77,78, 79. It was a let down because to me it was not KISS even though I loved Creatures of the Night. People my age did not care. I remember everyone commenting on how ugly they were.

I had no clue about the unmasking until I walked into a record store and saw Lick It Up in the new releases. I thought “oh shit, WTF?” I bought it and loved the album right away. Saw the tour at the Long Beach Arena (first time seeing Kiss) and it was good, but the Vincent guitar solo was way too long. Great songwriter and did help rejuvenate Kiss back then and a good guitarist, but I’m not really into the shredding style and he never seemed like he fit. Even when he had the Ankh Warrior make-up he just looked odd. Especially on the Lick It Up cover. Also, Gene, you can tell, was never comfortable without the makeup. Until maybe Revenge.

@LarryFleetwood86757 күн бұрын
He totally fit in on record and live there's a rawness and mystique there, he may have been a strange dude but his on stage antics fit right in he's the only Kiss guitarist to resemble Ace in any way on stage. Not that he was a copy of Ace, he definitely had his own style and physically as a rocker on stage he had it down.
