On 31 March 1995, at the age of 23, Selena Quintanilla-Perez, a rising Latino superstar, was murdered by her fan club manager in a Corpus Christi motel in Texas. Her death was met with widespread shock and disbelief by her fans. Earlier that year, Selena, as she was known, won a Grammy for her album Selena Live and was widely expected to break through into the US mainstream. Chris Perez, her husband and band member, describes the day his wife was shot by Yolanda Saldivar who was suspected of stealing from her boss. Ms Saldivar was convicted of murder and is serving a life sentence.

I strongly believe that. Selena was GORGEOUS, beautiful powerful strong voice, amazing performer, hilarious goofy personality, didn't seem to have an ego. She reminds me of Aaliyah. they were both extremely talented, successful, beautiful, wealthy & famous but you can tell that didn't go to their head. They were humble & some1 you'd be best friends with & have so much fun around. I miss them both...😪😪

I think the family is more accepting today. And I'm not sure the family in itself actually rejected him in the first place. It was more Paternal than that. Dad was pissed at him, and Selena defied that and married him. Regardless, the world lost a Superstar on that day, and it tears me up that she didn't get that chance in life because of someone's selfishness. If anyone had a "LOVE of LIFE" it would have been Selena. And Trust me, she would have been HUGE, given that chance. I still to this day wonder 25 years later what she would have been able to accomplish. She was just at that "breakthrough" stage. And DAMN, gone the next day. HUG and kiss everyone you love as much as possible, none of us knows what tomorrow brings.

@@annakev8088 They were suing him over Chris turning his memoir ''To Selena With Love'' into a series. The issue has been resolved and the lawsuit now dismissed. Basically, Selena's father owns her likeness etc, with Chris having signed an agreement after her death that her father is to retain ownership of her likeness, signature, thus him doing this series would have been in breach of that agreement.

SraiTdenI I'm pretty sure of all people Chris knows how his wife should, and would be remembered. I've only read a few comments, but I'm seeing a few talking about blaming Chris. Selena wanted to handle the situation with Yolanda alone the day she died. She couldn't have possibly known that the psycho would shoot, and kill her. It's super crazy. Yolanda was once a nurse, who was a fan of Selena's. Somehow she ended up in her close circle. A switch flipped, and she got upset with Selena and the family. She claims to this day she didn't intentionally shoot her. Which is of course is total bullshit, because she wouldn't have ever had the gun to begin with. Just saying. Chris loved Selena. I would recommend when you have the time, go to Corpus Christi to the museum they have there for her. Tons of letters are in a case that allows fans to read them. By the first few sentences you can automatically just see the kind of love they both had for each other.

@@allyciagutierrez7185 Abraham is a real piece of shit who has been exploiting his daughters death for the 25 years for monetary profit. Also, the recent Netflix series was piece of work, that watered down Selena's personality and character. The '97 movie was more accurate than the Netflix series. I am beginning to believe they (Selena's family, minus her mom) deliberately did this as away to brush all the negativity surrounding their family after her death. Not sure if you knew this but three weeks after Selena's death, Abraham approached Salma Hayek and asked her to portray her in the now famous bio pic. Luckily, Salma declined his offer.

Fortune and fame comes with too much hate and jealousy, greed, envy, ruining families. It sometimes come with too much pressure; that's why so many celebrity becomes drug addict.... Selena was a victim of jealousy, greed and envy. she was so beautiful and has a voice that speaks to your heart and soul. It was so tragic that we have to lose her. My mom was killed the same day Selena was killed. So sad for me everytime I hear her voice it brings back memory of my mom who was also murdered.

You know I always say Yolanda is a symbol of why you should keep yourself guarded against people who are jealous and want to take your light. Chris is right, Selena had a natural magnetism because she was a star by birth. And you have people who will try to get really close to you & pretend to be your friends when really all they want to do is destroy that light that they see because they don't feel like they can obtain it themselves. Rest in peace Selena you should still be here.

I don't know how anyone could actually kill any person. How could Yolanda bring herself to fire that gun, knowing exactly, as a nurse, where to shoot to kill? You don't get that precise without practice. This was premeditated. I wonder if the DA checked shooting ranges to see if Yolanda had been preparing?! no one is that good of a shot by accident.

09Naraa Yolanda did in fact practice shooting when she went in to purchase the gun and lied that she was a home care taker and that she needed the gun for protection cus she had received death threats from patients fam members (a lie). asked Selena to meet up with her alone the day before, but Chris went with her and the two argued very loudly as Chris mentioned he could hear them from his truck parked outside the room!
