It is a comment on the fear mongering throughout the ages. But mankind is still here and the 'due date' never came. The end is fear!

And at every point in time in human evolution, there have been, and are the, "children" who are not burdened by the fearmongering, but look forward despite many many certain "Apocalypses" and "Ends of the World" that have been proclaimed, but that never have happened. I love how the band members in the beginning of the video are so absolutely addicted to the screen relaying these fear-based messages of all possible ways that the world could or should have ended, as much as to asking for more eyedrops to keep their eyes from blinking. In the end these people are literally kicked out of the planet. They're past their due date, not us (of course, not the band members, but the ideas and ways of thinking they're portraying)

The Charismatic voice already reacted to another song from this new album: "Ocean of Strange Islands". If that is Elisabeth 's choice for reacting it means that it is the best song because of the vocal acrobatics. What are you waiting for?🙂

Tuomas said about this song: Floor at first is acting to be the preacher of fear, then the kids saying how things really should be and in the last chorus they join and that’s where the magic happens. For me, the children’s choir gives a great twist and balance to the song and gives me chills every time! Like stated before in Weak Fantasy: Fear is a choice you embrace! Universe: not to spoil anything, but you can stop worrying ❣️

They are petrified by fear as they're watching doom porn. Like we always have. Still no apocalypse though.

Essentially, it is saying to opposite, to not buy into all the rhetoric about the end being near. Stop fearing the end and live, in the present. Check out Lanternlight, a ballad Tuomas wrote for his father and about life being temporary. Also the lyric video to An Ocean of Strange Islands, an incredible musical composition about the journey of life.

This song is about fearmongers, who try to spread words of fear among people, but its often empthy words, the due day for all these predictions have paseed many times, message is not to let fear get to you, and live your life with some beauty instead, Floor said this was one of the hardest songs to learn on album, as you easy can stumble on the words. i listened to the whole album several times, in start i thought it was great, now i think its a masterpiece!! it just keeps getting better each listen.

Floor's voice was the doom and gloom, "We're all gonna die!" but the children's choir was about the hope they bring. In the end, Floor joins them in that hope. The song ends with "Due Date!" referring to the end of all never happening. The end of the world being past its due date. Y2K is a perfect example of fear mongering by the media. Airplanes were going to fall out of the sky, elevators would crash, blah, blah, blah. I worked in IT at the time and we spent two full years making sure our systems would keep running. It was a huge task as a our mainframe wasn't Y2K compatible (it was nearly 30 years old) so we had to not only buy a new one, but also rewrite all of the apps for it. Y2K was very real for the IT world, but the media played up like it was going to be the end of civilization.

.Enjoyed the reaction! Don't worry about being confused. This song and this album is very complex musically and lyrically and usually take multiple listens/watches to get everything. Took me multiple listens and views to pick up on everything in this song/video. Tuomas has said the song is about how we allow ourselves to be controlled by fear and misery. The adult voices are those who buy into the fear mongering while Tuomas uses the children's innocent and uncorrupted voices to represent those who don't buy in into the fearmongering and see the world as it really is. In the beginning Floor's lyrics are all about numerous end of days, apocalyptical events that people have pushed and bought into while the children's choir is taking a different tack, saying ignore the doomsday stuff and do the hard work that will actually make life better. It took me a few listens to pick up on the fact that the first two choruses are just the children but in the last choruses Floor joins in with the kids, representing people coming together to reject fear and have hope for the future. Visually, the beginning part with Floor putting eye drops in her bandmates eyes reminds me of Clockwork Orange. A visual metaphor for us being force fed "never ending doom porn" to create fear and misery in our culture. One of my favorite parts in the video is the scene with the Mayan's on their knee's before a solar eclipse which happens at the start of the second chorus. The adults are on their knee's, fearing the end of time as predicted by the Mayan calendar (supposedly in 2012) while a child is protectively hunched over a recently planted seedling representing hope for a better future. Also the red rose at the end being held by a child is also a symbol of hope as well. For me the lyrics in this song are so fantastic. A litany of never ending "Day Of's" that are supposed to keep us fearful and compliant. The line "fear more in this grave new world of 84". For me that means we have entered a world where the governments and their allies in the media, especially social media prescribe for us the correct way to think on subjects, just like George Orwell's novel 1984. Originally I had thought the line "A new strain sent you back into your cave. Obey, stay away, cover up" was a reference to Covid but others mentioned it was a reference to Plato's allegory of the cave. A much deeper and profound interpretation of the lyrics and more in line with what Tuomas would probably be going for. My absolute favorite lyrics are "A need to feel dread, gloom, awe. A lust for never-ending doom porn". Never ending doom porn has to be one of the best turn of phrases I have ever heard. It is such a poetic and witty way to describe how people are fascinated with the bad and evil and give short shrift to the positive and uplifting. Echo others on here that you need to listen to Laternlight. A heartachingly beautiful ballad where Floor's voice is perfectly matched with Tuomas's piano to evoke deep emotions! Have tissues handy.

Hello ladies, greetings from UK You might be surprised to hear that you almost got it, even though you didn't feel like you did 😂 The message was that throughout recent history fear mongers have told us that the world will end, be it coronavirus, the end of the Mayan calendar, the Millennium Bug etc etc etc.... BUT, we are still here! Be wary when people try to keep you in fear by prophesising doom! If you want a lyric video you could try another new song called "An Ocean Of Strange Islands"? You will get a lot more impressive Floor vocals in that one, and the band rock as always. I will even give you a small clue as to the meaning of the song, the ship is us and the different islands are representations of people and places we visit as we go though our life journey 😁

Thanks for sharing your insightful reaction to a song that gets better & better with each listen, which is something that defines greatness in songwriting. The composer, Tuomas Holopainen, has said that this song is his take against all the fear mongering that plaugues main stream media these days. For me it's a form of mind control to keep the masses of ordinary people in line with official narratives of the ruling class.

🤣It's funny you 3 being confused, Nightwish ,most of the time, have these lyrics where you have to focus on ,they tell story's but ,sometimes with meanings wich WE give to them,in this instance it's about fear mongering. People here ,will let you know but,i think it's nice that Nightwish has this "habbit" to let our braincelles be challenged once now and then, lyricly and musicly.😜🤘

It's not about an apocalypse but a fake apocalypse. Notice how, in the beginning, they were all watching a giant TV screen? Does that help hint at the meaning? They're all mesmerized by the TV screen, hanging on to its every word like zombies, mouths agape. Then they are all sucked in to the phony narrative of the almighty screen like a vacuum and tumble endlessly through "never-ending doom porn" as the lyric says. It has a 1980's pop vibe rather than metal because Orwell's 1984 is mentioned. Let's just say that Nightwish gets it. They "get" what is going on.

You 3 are a hoot. Anytime, any Nightwish, ya know it's gonna be a good day. I hear calling out the constant barrage of fear mongering we're all subjected too. From the bomb to the virus and especially the "fear of the well known" and "hide the unshot guns". Check out "Lanterlight" from the new album also. WHOA
