Considering the recent moral panic over certain Rappers glorifying and encouraging gang violence, this is still pretty relevant. Was something similar happening back in '94 or was it only Mortal Kombat, Doom and the Child's Play movies which were allegedly causing people to do violent things to each other?
@marcuswalters80933 жыл бұрын
It's the same moral panic. Rather than addressing underfunding of social projects and local amenities, authorities want us to focus on cultural aspects that reflect society as though they are the cause, not the symptom. Moral panics will end the day they stop being used as a diversionary tactic.

"Video Nasties" were a thing in the 80s too. As regards to Child's Play, the uproar over those films came in the wake of the murder of James Bulger. It emerged the two kids who did it had seen Child's Play 3 and what they did was similar to a scene in that movie. Whatever the decade, there will always be moral panic over SOMETHING in popular culture. Even Elvis Presley was deemed obscene in the 1950s
