Emily Bielby Kaye thought she had met her dream man in the tall, dark & handsome Patrick Mahon.
She was worried that her chance of love had passed by, but Patrick convinced her with seductive words that she was the one.
He said a new start in South Africa would cement their happiness...of course Emily's life savings would be necessary to get them established there.
Before that a romantic weekend in Paris would spark the fires of passion. But before departing the windy shores of England, a candlelit dinner in a quaint cottage he had rented....what better way to show off his culinary skills.

When I was in private school we had 7 people in the class and we had the greatest English headmaster ! He would teach us history & he was just like our Oddie. He just brought history to life. His name was Mr. Lynch. We had an Oddie type science teacher who drove around in an old WW1 ambulance truck. Both teachers made it so much fun to learn. If I had Oddie as a history teacher I'd never want to graduate ! I'd be getting social security & still be in high school. Ha ha ha ha!

I had a couple of very cool Teachers in my High School days...English and Art were the two with the best stories and rapport, but Oddie is truly a grand step up from them....likely the school kept them on a fairly tight rein, but they still made their subjects fun to learn. 🖤🇨🇦

Absolutley loved it! Actually, it is reminiscent of an old radio show that as I was growing up (must have been early 1970s) We had Mystery Theater in the States, late Sunday nights on the AM dial. Through the fuzziness of the channel not coming in completely, I still would get excited, hide under my covers and listen intently. It never failed to scare me quivering under my covers, room pitch black. Heaven forbid if mom got up to use the bathroom and make the boards of the floor creak as she walked. Inevitably at least once a month I would scream. Her timing was uncanny. Anyway, thank you so much for taking the time to read the stories. You have a wonderful speaking voice that within a few minutes has me tuned in with that same type of excitement as though I were still a child. I hope everyone that listens to you, finds that same level of happiness hearing them as I have. As for Patreon, only recently had I learned that the site was available. I shall have to look into that. A mere pittance a dollar is. I do hope people realize the bargain that you have presented. The time alone a Socialite must put in to that website is quite astonishing but, well worth the effort I suspect. Please keep up the good work and thank you so very much for such brilliant stories. Hi Oddie. I was so hoping that you would do this one . "The Man of Prey" - Patrick Mahon. He had a violent past , he assaulted the teller with a hammer when he robbed the bank . He even got rid of some body parts from the moving train . Btw wasn't Emily 37 not 34 at the time of her death . The most significant part of this whole sordid tale , in my opinion, is that it prompted Spilsbury (The Father of Forensics) to create the first forensic kit after noticing his assistant handling body parts without gloves . I'm glad that you mentioned the disposing of the head and the thunder . I had no idea that the same scene played out in court . This wasn't an easy one . There isn't much info on this subject . It does remind me of a Catherine Cookson book called "Rebbeca". It's sad about the giveaways. I still can't believe that you are actually giving away a portrait of Nesbit from Stamford Whites apartment. That prize is worth a pretty packet . MUCH RESPECT.

I heard about this from Alfred Hitchcock a few minutes ago, and am glad to see that it's been retold on here in fuller detail. This is very nicely and clearly narrated, including the screen text, with perfectly-fitting background sounds that help to convey the gravity and darkness of this disturbing and gruesome, yet fascinating, crime. Cor, this planet - and very much including these _Isles_ - has given birth to some real monsters over the course of human history. Nice work!

I found your videos totally by accident, no more than 2-weeks ago. Sooo glad I did. I now am also totally addicted to them! I came upon one that was not narrated and it’s just not the same. Your voice/your narrating the stories makes them. Keep making these please. One note: I love when the “absolute oddities” words are placed on buildings/places in the pictures. Nice touch!

I started viewing your latest gem late last night but I was so tired I couldn't pay it proper attention. So I waited until this morning to watch it. I started it over but got interrupted. So glad I found this excellent channel! The visual production is beautiful, and the narrator's voice lends an intimacy reminiscent of Boris Karloff or Alfred Hitchcock from their old TV shows. Yes it's a problem that's happening with a lot of channels, I have also heard of a YT 'glitch' that unsubscribes viewers from their favourite channels. I think I'll address this in my next Historical Feature....it's very annoying.
