Nineteen-year-old Charles Starkweather embarked on a murderous rampage in January 1958 that left 10 people dead; but was Caril Ann, his 14 year old girlfriend as innocent as she made out?
Let us relive that dark journey of two misfits rebelling in the worst way possible.

This video is sponsored by my Patreon patrons - THANK YOU! I'm going to be posting on KZbin selected previously locked Patreon videos that are approximately 1.5 (one and a half) years old. This is one of them and KZbin has already demonetised it with the standard claim that's it's not suitable for most advertisers....which always leaves me wondering why there's a ton of adverts when movies with the most disturbing content are aired on TV and cable? Those advertisers don't seem to have any qualms about placing their products with such content.

It's my opinion that you put out the best quality videos I've seen on KZbin. This must go back to a troll that stalked you and reported you. Once they had you on their radar they wouldn't stop. I don't see anything wrong with anything you've posted that I've seen. KZbin could use their resources in a better way than pick on you imho.

Thanks for your very kind feedback Katie - much appreciated 😊 This actually is KZbin acting alone and no trolls to blame. My videos get demonetised because KZbin describes them as graphic in content (well absolutely tame compared to what they show on TV)

Oddie, I think you nailed it on the head...your videos are of too good quality. KZbin will allow a lot of blatantly harmful stuff but they go after well thought out and produced videos? I keep thinking who will come up with the newer version of a KZbin type platform that would fix these things. In media and tech, there's always something better in the works.

I grew up 2 blocks up from the Fugate place. I know many of the Starkweather family. All these generations later, that name still resonates with people in Lincoln. Thanks for making a video about this! My grandpa always said "that's the only time we locked the house. We left the keys in the pickup too. No reason to come to the door and kill anyone...take it and GO!"

@@deborahs2593 keep in mind, I was born in 1970..some 30 years after the murders. TheStarkweather family handles it with dignity. I don't see how, as they still face the stigma and notoriety of having that name. People still say (especially the old timers) "Only thing wrong with Charlie dyin was he should have had her on his lap!" No one believed then, nor do they now, that she didn't play a major part in every step of the way.

@@thesinstreamstreams9465 Thank you for replying. I often wonder what the lives of murderers families must be- particularly if they knew the victims. Sorry to hear about YT harassing you. Addressing real life issues and how things occur without sheltering everyone used to be normal, and enlightening to share the sometimes nasty things that do happen in this world. People should be aware of such atrocities. The creation of a utopian existence without real life happening is ridiculous at best. Good luck with your future, and thanks for what you have shared thus far.

I read a book many years ago about this couple. Apparently, Carol's family was so poor that there was only ONE HALF a door on the bathroom. Prison must have been a step up for her. I live in NE, and here’s some additional info regarding Fugate...after her release in 76, she didnt marry until 2007, when she married Fred Clair. He was killed in a car accident in 2013, in which Fugate sustained serious injuries; he was driving the vehicle. She recently petitioned the Nebraska Parole Board for a pardon, which was denied in February 2020. She has always maintained her innocence in the killings and requested a pardon essentially so she would no longer be known as a convicted felon; her pardon application was actually supported by relatives of the murder victims. The pardon was denied because the role [of a pardon] is to restore someones’ rights, not absolve them of their crime.

I grew up in York, NE. My grandparents met Caril Ann several times in York. Towards end of her prison time. She did volunteer work in the town of York at churches and a few other places. My great grandpa and grandpa had to rush my newborn aunt to Lincoln General hospital, now named Bryan West during the killing spree of these two. They both put a handgun under each of their seats incase they crossed paths with them. Since, last report was the police thght they were in that neighborhood. I lived in Lincoln for 15 yrs and my cousin/roommate was a drummer in a local band. His drum roadie was Starkweather great nephew and one of few family members to stay in area and keep the last name.

A fascinating, well-done documentary! Thank you, ObsoleteOddity for all the time and work that go into your productions. A long time ago now I saw an interview with author Stephen King and he talked about how during the time of the killings he was keeping news articles, maybe even in a scrapbook, about the case. When asked why he was keeping such grim things Mr. King, who was then very young, said that it was so he would recognize Charles Starkweather if ever encountered him. Stephen King was growing up in Maine, a great distance away. I wish I could remember it better but, as I recall, Mr. King said something like he could see the emptiness of the universe in Charles Starkweather's eyes. If Charles Starkweather could have had speech therapy and had his eyes tested during childhood and gotten glasses maybe his life would have been much different and much better. Too the years of being picked on did great damage to him. I hope someone will remember this tragedy and remember to be kind to those who have differences and disabilities and to stand up for those being mistreated and will teach others to do the same.

Yeah and it’s getting worse, they screen comments and delete at will - whereas previously they would leave it up to the creator as to whether a comment should be accepted or deleted, by putting it in a held for review folder. Often now they will just delete comments that they think are provocative. And the videos are a whole different deal altogether!

Thank you very much for your kind feedback - much appreciated :) If you watch my video about demonetisation on my main channel, I have proof of non-transparency relating to my video reviews (by humans) A video that was manually reviewed some months back and given the all clear, but reviewed by another employee and demonetised. Even though YT said that once a video was reviewed that decision would be final.....obviously untrue and unfair. My main channel is shadow banned, I get a fraction of the views I used to before speaking out; and yet compare my Patreon monthly support amount to other KZbin channels Patreon with the same amount of subscribers...my content is obviously still very popular even with the obstacles KZbin puts in my way.

@@ObsoleteOddity KZbin is definitely being very unfair and untruthful with you. You have a loyal fan base and there is absolutely no need to shadow ban or demonetize you. It must be very disheartening to put in so much work only for youtube to unfairly target you. They can't just change their minds about your videos, they basically lied to you and messed you about. It's angering that other channels create lazy click bating gruesome content and seem to get away with it. KZbin are being completely out of order. Please know that the work you do is excellent and greatly appreciated by many.
@ObsoleteOddity

@@ch3rryk1tty Thank you my friend. When they demonetise a video, not only do I not receive the ad revenue, but the video is destined not to get widely seen by non subscribers - it doesn't get suggested by KZbin to potential viewers, and many subscribers will also receive not receive a notification for it. So it really is a degrading process, and extremely frustrating considering the amount of work involved. Plus I've read a new blog by the CEO of KZbin which details how videos like mine will never be allowed to trend, if one doesn't fit into YT's little box, they bury the channel. Saying that, not all of my videos are demonetised - A vintage crime video depicting events realistically, would most certainly be demonetised, but ones like Camille Claudel and Eveyln Nesbit are monetised. KZbin have also started placing limited ads on demonetised videos, which means the promotion of said video is still restricted, but there will be some ad-revenue from that video. So any ad that is playing, the money should come to me. Best regards, Oddie

It's a small point in this huge tragedy but I'm curious about the places where terrible crimes took place. I wonder what happened to the house where Mr. and Mrs. Lauer and Miss Fencl were murdered. It was a beautiful home in a style I'm particularly fond of. I wonder if the house was renovated and sold to new owners or left much as it was and maybe changed later. Was the house demolished and replaced with a new one? Another scenario is that the neighborhood became more of a business district and the houses replaced by stores and offices. Update: Just did a search on Google Maps. The Larsen house is still standing and appears unchanged. Some differences in the landscaping but the house is as the residents would have known it. A beautiful home.

Regarding Oddie's ending comments: It seems they're moving everything to the "content farm" style videos that have no substance. People who had decent channels before the lockdowns really started growing fast but are now being demonetized and shadow banned. With everyone at home watching youtube, those people were making some decent money off their videos but YT couldn't allow that. My daughter has had a homeschooling channel for a few years. It was growing steadily and took off like crazy during the first lockdown, when everyone was forced to homeschool and was looking for advice. Then they demonetized and shadow banned her too. Her subs are contacting her other ways and asking why they can't find her or why they've been unsubbed. YT had the opportunity to shine here and they intentionally screwed it all up.
