There was an episode in horror series Fear Itself, where you follow Brianna Evigan's character during zombie apocalypse, and she's consistently stalked by her zombified bff\bf. At the end there's a twist where turns out she's actually zombie herself and she was actually killing the people, and people she perceived as zombies were actually normal people she was attacking, while "normal people" she seen were actually zombies. However, it' wasn't really that "deep", it was on very surface level, as this series was inferior follow up to Masters of Horror, and it was super shitty despite actually having big horror names attached to it. This episode in particular was directed and written by the guy who made most of those Saw sequels, so it's not like he was "green". Even some big names like Stuart Gordon and John Landis didn't really save the show.

In co-op, if you play a Carver, everything on Tau Volantis looks very different. The co-op only missions tackle his own troubled past with his dead son, and how the Marker takes advantage of that. One of the final co-op missions, you get a segment for Carver players get in mini boss fights similar to the final boss fight in the 1st and 2nd games. Twist is that only Carver fights those mini boss fights, and Isaac has to fight incoming necromorphs and protect Carver's body from extra damage. Carver's alternate vision helps players find secret items or other co-op missions because only he can see certain environmental items that clues you in. Also, in co-op missions, Isaac sees the environment as any other part of the game, but Carver sees a completely different map

I was lucky enough to be able to play coop with my buddy/roommate right when this came out. I was Isaac and he had Carver. It adds a lot to the experience. The co-op stuff was full of REALLY cool ideas that weren't seen through to the finish. The 2nd player was supposed to see things only slightly different from Isaac at first but the game wouldn't mention it. Then slowly throughout the same what Isaac experiences and what Clark experiences were going to slowly diverge from each other so that the players playing would talk about their experiences and be like "that's not what I saw at all!" And it would make it seem like one of the two of you is slowly going mad because your experiences aren't quite lining up until eventually they're totally different and it leads up to a big reveal about Isaac's psyche or something. It seems like it was SUCH a cool idea that didn't get flashed out like they planned, because EA thought it was too experimental or weird. EA needs to learn to just publish the games and get TF out of the way on design choices. If it's not successful, just don't produce or publish the sequel. But don't ruin the thing before it even gets a chance!

You see it in dead space 2 at the climax, the marker is surrounded by them but they don’t dare get closer. This is also represented in the animated movie Dead Space: Downfall, and explained in the books, specifically the one about Micheal Altman. These aliens survived the planet freeze only to die of starvation as they sought sanctuary from the necromorphs who didn’t get frozen by the machine, the only true safe place being the markers that caused their world’s destruction.

Why, put him in a daytime soap love storyline, of course!" I mean, at this stage, he's been through everything else. Also, I kind of like the idea of discovering the secret origin of the Markers, and it kind of brings the Marker storyline from the previous games to a full circle. So, is Dead Space 3 a downgrade from its predecessors? Yes, sadly it is, but that in no way makes it a terrible game; it's not the best entry in the franchise, but it's still very playable.
@Lawlsomedude2 жыл бұрын
The most interesting thing Dead Space 3 did was make co-op partners see different things during gameplay; not just having them in different gameplay areas, but cutscenes and dialogues that would play for one person but not the other. In co-op (which I just played recently with a friend), Carver is given much more character and backstory. I have all of my fingies crossed that the success of the remake will see a full trilogy remake with the third game getting a big overhaul. Ellie Surviving in the end was meant to be a plot device, allowing the devs the ability to work on Dead Space 4, which they already had ideas set out. It was supposed to start as you playing as Ellie in some abandoned sector, going from ship to colony scrapping things together and trying to find a way to survive or something similar. Going back to the roots of what Dead Space was. At least that's what the devs hoped if EA didn't do what they are best at with good ideas.

The series follows Isaac in a logical manner. In the first, Isaac was a simple engineer. And met absolute horror. To survive, he had to craft weapons from various tools. In the second game, he was more experienced, not that scared anymore, knew more about the enemy, and had gained experience in creating even better weapons. Weapon weapons. In the 3rd he's a full combat veteran soldier, as well as an experienced weapon engineer engaging the enemy willfully and with determination.

And here everyone grabs Isaac, and he takes off the helmet every time in front of Danik. @@youtube-kit9450 Yeah, they're genuinely stellar set pieces, they're just shit because they're co-op mandatory, instead of co-op optional. The bit with him surviving in space briefly without the helmet does make a certain amount of sense: While the ship is venting atmosphere, he is still surrounded by atmospheric pressure, even if it is quickly dispersing. It's not a sudden decompression, but rather a gradual, if swift, one. If he was ejected more swiftly, faster than the escaping atmosphere, he'd likely be in a great deal of trouble, but since he wasn't tossed with the initial breach, that would buy him a small measure of time.

1:07:21 I feel like this game could’ve benefited from a lot more moments like this. Instead of having generic shoot outs, have the necromorphs come in and attack. They could’ve avoided a lot of complaints about it being a generic shooter this way. It’d be a great way of showing the necromorphs are a massive threat, as they easily dispatch people who are armed and armored the same way you are. Also, I played in coop, and Carver does generally improve overtime. There’s actually some really cool bits in coop where Isaac is having a schizo moment imagining himself doing something, while the person playing Carver has to pull double duty in a fight against necromorphs, protecting both themselves and the Isaac player.
@VinceOliver042 жыл бұрын
I think one of the greatest moments this game had were those when each player was suffering from their own hallucination. It even ties nicely to the lore by just how used to the Marker influence Isaac was by this point compared to Carver who can't tell what is real and isn't. Those Carver hallucinations especially on Tau Volantis were really neat and were a legitimate attempt to include horror to co-op where you typically won't get spooked since you have a friend laughing with you while mowing down space zombies. Should any developer want to create a story-based coop horror game I believe Dead Space 3 has some legitimate ideas they can consider even if said ideas are stuck under a pile of crap.

But for what the series originally was, obviously this title fails on all cylinders in the horror department. Unless you play the DLC. And a lot of the character storylines were just overly dramatic and nonsensical. The over arching plot I think fits the Dead Space world. But the character stuff just was incredibly weak which is sad to see after Dead Space 2 had a really strong cast that were all well written and had a place in the story. @TantoPoint Yeah, I think the overarching narrative is perfect in terms of where the dead space storyline was heading but I think the character storylines and dialogue took a HUGE dip from the first 2 games with only the acting to back it all up and just made the story feel kind’ve mediocre. Which is sad because I thought Dead Space 2 had fantastic characterization and dialogue with some again, phenomenal performances. The gameplay also has a bunch of issues, mainly that it’s no longer a horror game but an action adventure thriller game and to feel any sort’ve difficulty, you need to put it on hard or higher to get any semblance of challenge. However. The game is very fun. Has some bright spots. And compared to other horror sequel’s that ruined their respective franchises, this one isn’t the worst by far.

First game: everyone goes crazy because of exposure to the marker, the marker manipulates them to try to reach convergence. Second game: we spend the whole game talking to Nicole and find out that, surprise surprise, the marker hallucination doesn't want to destroy it, but to achieve convergence and compels everyone who is exposed to it to try to reach convergence. Third game: "Oh look, it seems like the admiral was going crazy from the marker because this is all stuff we've seen before, but THIS time the marker was telling her how to destroy it surely!" Also, I was so disconnected from this game that I ended up spending the entire last third of the game noticing as I played it how stupid the characters were and yelling at them. In the scene where Isaac throws the codex to Dannik (or however you spell his name) I was yelling at Isaac to shoot him since Ellie was clear and he or Carver could have easily shot big D as he tried to start the machine, or afterwards and they could have reversed what he did, so many solutions, none of them taken.

As much as I don't like dead space 3 for quite a few things, you made a few mistakes. Carver was the one who threw the Codex to Danik, not Isaac. Isaac was fully prepared to let her die for the sake of everyone else if he had to, but Carver decided to save her. There was also no evidence to Carver or Isaac in the game that the captain was being influenced by the Brethren Moon/Marker on the planet when saying turn it off, just that they was going insane, which doesn't indicate a marker's tampering as that could have happened to anyone after seeing the horrors of the Markers (remember, there are people immune to the effects, Ellie being theorised to be one such person)

I think one of the worst parts about this game is how nonchalantly Isaac kills humans, but the 3 or so times he did in the first two games were always super powerful and shocked me to my core, I was horrified when Isaac killed Strauss. I always really love when he sneaks past those soldiers to send the necromorphs after them instead of facing them himself in DS2, it felt much more realistic as to what someone with his knowledge and experience would do, instead of just mindlessly shooting through them all like in DS3. But hey different strolks for different fokes I suppose.
@Balls13352 жыл бұрын
Dude’s been through hell and back while the humans he kills in the third are trying to kill him. By that point, he’s desensitized to the violence. It’s the same as veteran soldiers (fictional or not) being able to brutally kill anyone or anything that stands in their way.
@TF2CrunchyFrog2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, when you've been through so much trauma, seen so much gore, suffering hallucinations, as Isaac, and now you're confronted with these Marker cultists who want to end the world and human civilization... why would you give a shit about having to kill them in self-defense? Sure, the cultists _look_ more human than necromorphs, but really, they are just as much of a threat. They're traitors to all life. They're religious madmen (and women). They want to unleash a Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror upon the galaxy. They have to be stopped, and they can't be reasoned with. If the cultists _were_ necromorphs, people wouldn't complain about DS3 feeling like a "military shooter" (did it really? I don't think so. Military shooters revolve around weapon and gear selection and tactics) but it would be seen as the same splatter survival horror like the previous 2 games.

1:12:10 Love how the Writers some how put the 80s Freeze frame into the Story. Truly a masterpiece. Also, Carver was originally supposed to be a manifestation/Alter personality for Isaac; As Isaac mentally struggles with PTSD and Very Severe/ Repeated Traumatic events that were Caused by a Cosmic Parasitic entity of sorts. Carver role was to be the Harden Solider that never gave up/wavered on his mission. Also was able to make the hard/quick decisions; opposed to Isaac who is just a normal man. Who was at the wrong place and the Wrong time. Hes not in the army. He was not prepped to fight in a war psychical or mentally; let alone to fight Nightmare fueled monsters. He basically fought his way out of hell, as he watched everyone around him die. And struggling to Come to terms He might Die like everyone else and Not make a Difference...... But No Carver appears in some cutscenes in coop, but sometimes he doesn't even talk, or everyone acts like he isn't even there. And even if I played the whole game on singleplayer I wasn't bored at all. I know everybody thinks about this game differently, but I actually had fun while playing it. Although I agree with the overpowered weapons point, but you still can craft some of the classic weapons if that's what you like. And for me, the reason why Dead Space 3 is not much of a horror game as the other 2 games is because Isaac already knows these creatures. Isaac's already been through this hell 2 times, he knows what to expect and so do we as players. People would know to expect enemies suddenly jumping out of the vents or even corpses magically coming back to life and stabbing us in the butt. What was wrong with callisto protocol? I got it free with ps plus and haven’t played it yet
@Talulah_Artorius Жыл бұрын
@@calebcenty2964 so... I hope you love crawling through vents because that's 30% of the game, not even kidding, the combat is braindead and there's 3 enemies in the entire game, all of them get killed the same way (2 melee hits followed by an auto aimed pistol shot) there's only 2 bosses in the entire game even though there are 4 boss fights... Yes the devs reused the same boss 3 times and the final boss is the only unique one, add on top of all that that the story was mid and then was retroactively ruined by the dlc and you have the callisto protocol

1:07:40 These necromorphs were my favorite in the game because it showed what happened to the people who has stasis modules equipped to their gear when turning into the necromorph "stasis Module Breaks and causes their time to be distorted, to them they are moving normal speed but to us they are speedy bois"

From a post that I remembered and I finally found it. I am gonna copy paste it, cuz I couldn't have said it better myself: "I hate what they did to Ellie in DS3- Her character was so cool in DS2. You see her fighting off entire hordes of necros singlehandedly. She gets stabbed in the eye, and still has the lady balls to fight the guy that did it, then flies a ship through the ceiling to save Isaac. Freaking badass. Enter Dead Space 3. They give her boob implants, and make her the cliché damsel in distress all the guys are fighting over. I get EA was trying to make the series more mainstream, but damn it they ruined a great character."
@Sessionsjc2 жыл бұрын
but did she grow her eye back? do they address the fact that she has her eye back in DS3?
@Tkokat2 жыл бұрын
@@Sessionsjc It hasn't been addressed in DS3 story, iirc. However, I found this in google: "In Dead Space 3, Ellie has Heterochromia. As a result of losing her right eye to Stross, she now has two fully intact eyes, the new one being green instead of the original blue. A memo in Isaac's apartment explains that she is now using an artificial eye"

Yeah... The nutcracker co-op mission thing was trippy as hell. I kept telling my friend on skype that the walls were weirdly skinned, or about the little nutcrackers, so many things he couldn't see... Then there was a part where I had to run to a marker in a hellish mindscape thing while he protected my apparently hallucinating body from waves of enemies.

This reminds me of with how broken the weapons were in Dead Space 3. Mix the Sniper Weapon parts with a stasis module and a ton of damage modifiers, AND BOOM you have made Stasis entirely obsolete

I played this with a friend and it's a great Coop game. But holy shit it's a terrible Dead Space and a horror game at that. Not just the Call of Duty action, but the whole story and characters and set pieces feel like they're directed by Micheal Bay. The thing that kills franchises is when money gets involved and you try to improve the monetary value by "expanding the target audience"
@AlexiaHoardwing2 жыл бұрын
Thing is, look at it like Resident Evil in space. The Co-Op wouldn't even make it less of a Dead Space game if more care was taken. The only issue was EA, and the greed that consumed.

I think the story and characters made me hate DS3 more than all the other screw ups. All i did was bitch at their dumb decisions and eventually found myself skipping through dialog cuz I couldn't care less what they had to say or what happened to them. It was so bad I ended up never finishing it...

22:15 You have about 15 seconds before the blackout and about 90 before you are dead one could argue that a bit of air is coming with isacc as he gets flung out the ship giving him maybe 1 or 2 extra seconds, also also he may be on so much adrenalin that his body is able to function just a few seconds longer aswell. overall i would say he had about 4 seconds left after he put on the helmet

1:14:32 Carver is decent. Arguably the better character to play, as all the optional co-op missions you can’t do in singleplayer revolve around his marker episodes, with Isaac either being confused, canonically not being there (as it’s all in his head, Isaac doesn’t say a word in one of them until they go back to the elevator) or trying to talk him down from whatever crazy shit he’s experiencing. If you read the companion comics to the game they flesh him out way better, and with that knowledge he’s actually a really cool character. The story is going for a reluctant bromance thing and by the end I actually cared for both characters, although it helps to play co-op with someone you’re actually friends with lol. Basically, this game is a 2 star solo, 3-4 star co-op (out of 5).
@circa19192 жыл бұрын
Having played 1&2 but never 3, the overall story of this game seems pretty neat, but that's ultimately kind of the problem, is that we get to see the potential of the game, knowing full well that so much of the tension that makes the experience memorable for the player is diffused by the turn towards an action FPS, while also taking half the cast (Carver) out if you don't have a friend with you. While I love co-op, and I like the effort to make it actually part of the story instead of just an add-on. That said, it should have had a bot play as carver as still allow you to do all those things and have those interactions without a physical 2nd player. One parallel that I notice here is the possibility of indoctrination that appeared in the Mass Effect series

I think the other problem that Visceral struggled with, is that it's obvious they did not want to make another ds1 or 2, which is why this game is quite different. If they had wanted to make another pure horror entry, they would have needed an entirely new protagonist and set the events of that game somewhere between the 1st and 2nd. Just doesn't make sense for Isaac to be an necromorph killing machine but still be afraid of them.

Watching this for the 3rd time since last week. Honestly upsets me how they split the story between co-op, made the guns no longer unique, and the abandoned systems thanks to EA suits wanting to give the watered down experience they're known for killing studios over.

I played this game fully co op on release and Carver is certainly more of a character. The Co Op only areas have some dialogue, and a few neat tricks that drive home the insanity of the relics by having Isaac and Carver seeing different enemies and only one set is real. Shame that you miss out on all of those interesting mechanics in solo play.
