4.5 million comments at most. If you go by how many identified as special comments in 1959 in the comment section and how many can be easily calculated to have self-moved to other videos. By complete comment statistics not counting the naughty Russian or German comments we'll get to a theoretical maximum of 1.5-2 million total comments. What makes the estimate more difficult is that Poland didn't count self-moved comments before the release of the video, so it's reasonable to assume their estimated comment deletion numbers will be highly exaggerated. Ukrainian comments were thankfully surveyed in 1939 and it found that there were 2.5 million less total comments than the 33.4 million that's usually used to count the amount of comments to be deleted. Since we'd expect ~3 million comments to have been self deleted and over 1 million comments to have been deleted by the Soviets before the video or moved to another video's comment section by them after the release, almost if not all of the future Ukrainian disappeared comments can be explained.

Many of the survivors who had not been luck enough to be sent there very close to the end of the war were camp collaborators, they knew people because they were involved in it's running (and also things like black market trading). For a lot of personal recollections it should be noted that people are often just wrong, once you read enough you start picking up on habits humans have with mixing up when they knew things, centering themselves in stories and recollecting rumours as things they witnessed. Also they lie, but lies also follow particular patterns and are usually self-serving, or meant to protect one's sense of themself. Local Germans very often did know what was going on, but they either didn't want to think about it too deeply or thought they deserved it. After the war everyone started pleading ignorance for fairly obvious reasons.

If you read up on the Nuremburg trials, you will find that the Soviets tried to blame many of their atrocities upon the Eastern populations on the Germans. Further, the post-soviet literature of Rogovin has a very interesting take on the matter: 'Altogether, more communists from Eastern European countries were killed in the Soviet Union than died at home in their own countries during Moustache man's occupation.' and: 'One leading Lithuanian communist commented that because of the decimation of the Lithuanian Communist Party’s Central Committee at the hands of Stalin and his executioners, “I alone remained alive! And I remained alive because I had been carrying out underground work in foooshist Lithuania.”

@@DarthErebusPhysics As well as the Katyn Massacre, I would look into Paul Rassinier. Rassinier was a French resistance member who helped Js to escape from German-occupied France. During the war, he was caught and sent to a concentration camp. Afterwards, he wrote a popular and critically acclaimed book describing the camp, in which he claimed the prisoners had been allowed to form their own camp-government, which was subsequently overrun with communists, and it was they who restricted food to the weak and needy. Over time, as he heard the increasingly extreme tales of the death camps, he decided to go and interview the survivors. He found them to border on the absurd and he noted their many contradictions in his new book. For this he was widely condemned by the French intelligentsia and he was kicked out of the national writing society, however his book proved very popular among the French masses.

@@richardcrook2112 I don't care whether they were or weren't, although I doubt you have a great enough understanding to say either way simply because one has to muddle through layers of propaganda and midwit historiography to get even a basic understanding of the second world war. Regardless, my point still stands: the Soviets did try to blame Germany for their crimes. And second, I would have to look into this particular case in order to have any opinion of it. As far as it stands I have no idea, nor do I really care, if the case he's describing happened.

That is my attitude. I think the holocause did happen and agree in large part with the mainstream historical account. But it is the moral lesson you take from history that matters. My attitude is that genocides are a continual fact of human history and the best way to avoid them is for groups to live separately in different territories. Both the Holocaust and the creation of the state of Israel are arguments against mass immigration and the dangers of multi-ethnic polities.

Unbelievable human cruelty. And a waste of lakes full of fuel desperately needed during the absolute most crucial time of the war, which the Axis was losing mostly due to lack of fuel. Hard to believe that they were so stupid that they lost the war by using that fuel to burn all those millions of bodies. As we know, burning even one body in a modern crematorium takes a long time and leaves lots of ash and bone. There must have been mountains of it. Thank goodness this lunacy in Poland was put to a stop by the Communist Red Army in late 1944, and the horror only lasted about 2 years.

According to experts in the field of supply of resources of the Third Reich, there had been no critical shortage of gasoline among the German forces at the time the gas vans were developed and dispatched to the Einsatzgruppen, i.e. from late 1941 to early 1942: - there was "no shortage [of oil] affecting the war strategy until 1942" and "only since 1943 - with the military defeats on the Eastern front, the disturbed transport and strongly increasing needs of the Wehrmacht - the demands considerably exceeded the available amounts" (Petzina, Autarkpolitik im Dritten Reich, p.192). - "the supply crisis failed to appear" in 1942, which "was mainly due to the Romanian deliveries...further, the heavily reduced contingents of gasoline and Diesel assigned to the economy played a role that there was no crisis". Although "in 1943 there was the increasing constraint to adjust the operative plans to the available fuel", there was "no serious total crises among the German fuel supply until Spring 1944" (Birkenfeld, Der synthetische Treibstoff 1933-1945, p. 155f.). - "even in 1943 - the year of the highest consumption, but also the highest production - there was no dangerous shortage of fuel" and the Third Reich was "sufficiently supplied with fuel for the warfare until Spring 1944" (Eichholtz, Geschichte der deutschen Kriegswirtschaft 1939 - 1945, volume 2, part 2, p. 353 & 355).

In the Irving vs Lipstadt trial, David Irving was amazed to find out that there was no central reference library for the holocaust. Rather, an anecdote here, a piece of folklore over there - none of it verified.

Ah yes: That van can definitely take 90 bodies. The rear axel of my van can't take 2.5tons, but I'm sure 1940s German vans had strongers metallurgy and engines to lorry around 5000kg load! Amazing what lengths those hateful Germans went to.

Weird minor note. Coffee was largely absent from German life during war time due to embargoes. (Edit: My source is the book "Into the Darkness" by the American Journalist and author Lothrup Stoddard. He visited Germany before the USA officially entered the war. Much of his reporting was on the daily conditions of life.)

The titlle is deceiving. There was no camp as such, but about 3km from Chelmno was where the dead prisoners were cremated. The dead prisoners arrived in gas vans, where the exhaust fumes of the van were piped into the van interior during its journey.

I have seen some numbers stating 50 people were loaded per truck. If they are all inside...and gas starts coming in...its dark, air tight I guess at least some of them would panic and try to get out. I would expect that at least some of trucks get turned over in commotion. did they have external stabilization?

I see one flaw in this narrative: Szlama Winer, the only eyewitness-survivor of the Kulmhof KZ, stated in 1942 that 190-200 corpses were be in one lorry. He is the only contemporary witness who wrote his report in a time near after the event. All others gave their witness' testimony years later (only 2 eyewitnesses survived the ordeal). So the question is: Why counted one witness double the number when he wrote his report in the Ghetto in Warschau as the other witnesses years later? (This report is called „Grojanowski-Report“ after the ficticious name Winer used.) Here is the german article about this: Google for: „Jede Lkw-Ladung umfasste 180 bis 200 Leichen“ (the paper where the article is written in is a leftleaning paper, so no nazirelativism is expected (perhaps some exaggeration 🤨). Idk how reliable this Montague fellow is, but the numbers seems to vary a lot.

Another problem: The SS used lorries of the firm "Sauer". The firm produced only lorries with load-weights of 5-t in WW2. Some of them were rebuild for the SS to gassing the youth (source Wikipedia). 5 t is 5000 kg, which means 5000 kg : 80 kg/person is 63 people would be a full load of the lorry. Not to speak how they would press 100 or 200 people into the lorry without throwback. Idk how this would work. I would estimate that 50 ppl are the real number. I'm quite sure that I have read several reports about the Gaswagen-Aktion of the SS, but I can't remember the number of people they gassed in one raid. I will have to look it up again later.
@maxmuetze7295
@maxmuetze7295 5 ай бұрын
Ok. I read it up. The first lorries were 3-t (american lorries). They could gas 30-50 people at once. At the begin of 1942 Sauer-lorries were used. The could gas 100 people at once. but there had several flaws (i.e. one of them exploded since the inserted gas produced an excess pressure in the cargo-room -- it must be quite a mess when this happened -- other got leaks and the CO-gas began to poison the operators). Nonetheless the 200-number of the "eyewitness" is BS. Also, this "witness" stated he could smell the poisoned gas when the lorries were opened. OK. Now I will call him a liar. CO gas were used none other gas or additive was used... and CO gas is odorless. Although at the begin they used compressed CO in gas-bottles and perhaps this gas was mixed with an additive like "Stadtgas" was to inflict crapulence. But it is unlikely they would use such a mixture (they wanted an as much as possible painless and fast death)... And in 1941 they were able to use the CO of the motor of the lorry. So, no odor.
