the world of fashion currently lacks HEART. HEART is the quality that is missing that you are talking about, it's what makes every story worthwhile, every fashion trend meaningful and stick in your mind, what makes every song that moves you *move* you, every painting that's actually meant something to you, 9 times out of 10, has HEART. The way to counter meaningless media is to actually have something - preferably fundamentally positive even if it masquerades or "appears" negative - to say. And that is a valid option. You just have to actually seek it.

it's a shame that nowadays, to become a successful artist you need to be good at marketing first and foremost.

my whole life i was never really into trends, fashion or shopping cuz i never really understood it. but the past couple years i've been kind of pushing myself to get more into it to feel more like a normal human being. the problem is that i don't really have any tastes, like I don't know how to judge something. me personally, I like things that people give me, i guess because it's meaningful. Like shirts people made for me are my favorite things to wear. i don't really care about aesthetics that much because i don't undersatnd the meaning of it. so i guess my taste is whatever is meaningful to me. like clothes I get at an event, or stuff people give me. But as for the past couple years I've been occasionally impulsively buying fashion things to try to understand it. but every thing i bought i don't really like or I don't feel a connection to it. I look at it and stare at it for awhile and ask myself what do I think about it, and I feel nothing. I've always had this fantasy of making my own clothes for this reason cuz i think that's the coolest thing

Fashion is bullshit, it's a substitute for a real personality. No one understands it they only jump on trends. The truth is there is nothing to understand because its bullshit

Bro if you think fashion is ass ”nowdays” you just have to look beyond the lame ass well known brands. Mainstream brands have always been bad it’s the small brands that are pushing the artform, always has been.

this video literally feels like watching an ouroborous, it simultaneously describes and indulges in the meaningless attention grab. the visuals (really pretty and well made as is) and the audio. the narrative of societal collapse and oversaturation is nothing new, its been that way since forever. citing that old timey tale of getting a suit is no different than working hard to buy a new piece of clothing, be it buying in store or waiting eagerly to recieve a parcel. this video seems more about a mental state than a societal state

absolutely lovely video! personally i think you could slow it down a bit haha, your words deserve the weight that would carry. i’ve been trying to move on my accord/speed and not be carried by social media and trends, visiting forums and reading wikipedia and other sites is a great way and creates memories and attachment to the art i like. also there was so many good movies and videos displayed in this video, great taste! thank you for being a creator who has helped me getting into fashion somewhat, i’m interested in all things experimental and aesthetic and i was lacking a way to get into fashion but your videos have helped me a lot! please keep them coming!

Damn, i was excited to see the Tiqqun screenshots from „get rid of yourself“. Wouldve been more hopeful to reference them as well - why did you put „balenciaga“ on top? Tiqqun made this film w the bernadette corporation, and a general motive of Tiqqun is talking about how there is no winning in participating in the spectacle, because everywhere in the spectacle you are just an agent for capital. They talk about the importance of connecting OUTSIDE of the spectacle with others and ruin its conductivity circuits . If you want to exit, there is the option to exit but then we have to build something new, i think thats worth the risk though. But as long as we are stuck in 1000$ price tags, brand names, and grailed lists, the psychosis continues, nothing new will emerge. Names are part of the spectacle, identity is nearly always spectacular. We need radical fashion anarchy in its material conditions, NOT just in the aesthetics. Fashion needs to move away from aesthetisization and question the material roots of its problems, outside of its „aesthetics“

What a great video essay, piece of solid work 😮Someone finally talking about the social, psychological processes and reasons behind one day viral trends, not just saying "boohoo it's bad because its bad!!!" Loved the story with macallan jacket, loved the book you brought up. While i don't think we can't escape consumerism, its terrifying to think that not even fashion and art can bring comfort and sense of something elevated nowadays

i just don’t want this to take away from my authenticity or perspective of things within the fashion realm. also i have only come to appreciate the look of the peice rather than what it represents, means, or stands for, i feel i don’t look hard enough or am i just looking in the wrong places. this feels stupid and corny typing it out but i don’t even know what im doing, i really like what i have seen so far but i think im just confused

Do you think it's so easy to trap people because people go into head first as being "into fashion" as a personality trait? So the constant need to keep up is attached to their personhood. Is this what you are saying?
