SCP Containment Breach was also another impactful indie horror game during 2012, and one of the best creepypasta horror games ever made. Also, the ripple effect that Markiplier and Pewdiepie had in those years was insane, letting a whole new wave of horror let's players out of the floodgates.

Resident Evil 6 is one of the funnest multiplayer experiences out there, and it features local splitscreen coop on PC and that's absolutely amazing, had a blast playing it with my GF. There's a creature in it that I found really interesting, it was a monster that could "clone" itself, as in, if you separate a part of it's body, another one will grow from that part, and the previous one will regenerate. I think they could've done so much more with that monster design tho, they didn't explore it to it's full potential. But yea, in the horror departament it really fails, In fact, it doesn't even try tbh, a fun action shooter, not a horror game at all lol. I always wondered if a truly scary multiplayer horror game is even possible at all, I've seen some yt videos of games like Cry of Fear and horror gmod maps where people get spooked, but they're never really scared, only startled for a moment.

Multiplayer online destroyed everything. Also big online pages that promote Fortnite, Helldivers, Minecraft,COD is the epitome of why genre games die such survival horror. I really really hate this era,thank god i lived to see the early 00's magic

I beg to differ. In my opinion the term 'Survival Horror' doesn't really mean anything and is more about the themes and iconography associated with the game. But, in a traditional sense, Dead Space takes so many queues from Resident Evil that it defiantly fits into the realm of Survival Horror; Balancing out your resources, seeing how far you can get until the next save point, backtracking, etc. Dead Space is through and through Survival Horror, but then again, what game isn't about survival?

Alan wake was a survival horror game through and through, the first time when u picked up the game and start playing it you were met this with eerie feeling like the danger is just around the corner. Horror just don't have to be like ghosts and stuff, it's the fear of the unknown like you said, Alan wake captures that, yah you can fight off enemies but before they pop in, you always have this uneasy feeling and that's what makes it a survival horror game.
