I don't know if I will ever be able to play Alien Isolation, but I think it's so freaking cool and am so happy to see it still talked about. Awesome video!

Damn your writing's clean man. Fantastic video! I do wanna sorta challenge the notion of Isolation's story being whatever. Sure I can forgive that when looking at the main narrative revolving around Amanda Ripley, as, even tho I enjoy it more than most other people and in particularly learned to appreciate how grounded it is, and how, while lacking in personality, characters crucially are depicted and written smartly - as regular people, trapped in equally as uncanny as it is terrifying situation, making very human mistakes behind very believable motifs, but truth be told that appreciation was learned on subsequent playthroughs, and there still was space where they could have incorporated at least a little bit of character development to have us connect to people involved closer without detracting from a gameplay process (the Marshal Bureau hub that we take temporary shelter in prior to Mission 10 being a good example of this. Just smth like Metro where you could interact with various NPC's and have a casual chat could have done wonders for those who cared a little more about the story). But Isolation grander, overarching narrative surrounding Seegson and Sevastopol as a whole. told through the game's environments while being strongly alluded to continuously in the main story is smth I found to be way overlooked despite being some incredible corporate thriller. The characters that we get to only hear, but never see through the game's various archive logs like Lingard, Sinclair, Spedding and, especially, Ransome breathe with personality and help depict a really tragic, but all too familiar story of failing investments from terrible business practices of apathetic, nihilistic corporations negatively affecting only the hardworking populous that foolishly put their faith in them, more so out of necessity rather than choice, in hope for the better future. It really nails one of the central themes of the first movie and franchise as a whole without being a rehash but bringing its own fresh ideas at the forefront.

Alien Isolation really was the most beloved entry in the canon before Romulus got the films back on track. Keep in mind, after Alien and Aliens, we had: -A love-it-or-hate-it third film -A mixed bag of comic books -A collection of AVP video games that I should say are actually worth a look -A mostly maligned fourth film -A duology of REALLY maligned AVP crossover flicks set on modern day Earth -Prometheus, which suffered a botched rewrite -Alien Covenant, which is as divisive as Alien 3 and then some -And of course, Aliens: Colonial Marines. Isolation wisely chose to harken back to the roots of the series, and translate its core concepts and themes of fear of the unknown and claustrophobia into a modern context. And it's this direction that has resulted in it being the most beloved of the Alien video games and the one thing mostly everyone seems to agree on.

It did not save the franchise as the franchise was not dying at all. Aliens 1986 movie is still great. And Alien Isolation is not even a great game as it does not have great gameplay mechanics and loops. Fans just want good products based on it.

Very debatable, the game has been fun to replay and while dated now, the mechanics and what not we’re not bad.

I Feel like Isolation is a bit over hyped. AVP2010 was way better imho. " How to Save a Dying Franchise?" The Movies: Step one: Read the novel Aliens: Berserker from S. D. Perry Step two: Make a movie about it without changing anything, a one-on-one 100% faithful adaptation with good actors, practical effects and music. Step three: Profit The Games: Remake AVP2

Despite my love for AVP2010, it has nothing on Isolation. Sure, it has 3 campaigns, but... The Alien campaign is like an hour and a half at most. The Predator campaign is an okay-ish early 2010s stealth action which takes you maybe 3 hours? The Marine campaign is an okay horror-shooter, which even scares me at times. And the only one to have any sort of coherent story. Now sure, AvP2010 has the advantage of its multiplayer modes, but compared to what Isolation and its 20 hours of JUST campaign have to offer it's really not a fair comparison. That being said, I should probably go and replay AvP2010, this game fucks.

@@nekocatism Oh, now I've read my comment again and I see why you think I was shitting on Isolation. But it was just a subjective opinion, you are absolutely right, Isolation is a masterpiece, IF you enjoy this genre. I meant I preferred the action oriented AVP2010 vs the Survivor Horror Isolation. But by all means I don't think it's a bad game, Heck, I watched it like 4 times on youtube already and it is my favorite Alien movie currently, but gameplay-wise, no thank you. I think AVP2010 is a better game. Because I like the genre more.
@nekocatism9 күн бұрын
@@0ne0fmany That makes a little more sense now. Anyway I think the AvP games are all great, 2010 included (hell, it was the game that REALLY got me into Alien way back when). I wish we had some closure with the ending though, haha :D
@0ne0fmany9 күн бұрын
@@nekocatism Sadly it's not going to happen. Even though today it has a very positive review score on steam and a lot of people are praising it even to this day, at release it was criticized to oblivion and didn't sell well, so it was labelled as a commercial failure and the sequel was cancelled. And with Alien Isolation's success, devs will focus on making more survivor horrors with the IP, which is a good thing, but it will also mean that a game like AVP is very unlikely to happen. I would love to see an AVP2 remake too, but Monolith is currently working on a Wonder Woman game, and as far as I know they have no AVP plans.
