My favorite uniforms are from the 60s: knee length miniskirt, letter sweater and gym shoes with matching bow and poms

I know this is different from the fashion videos I usually make but I've been obsessively watching teen movies again and I came up with this. It's so interesting to me how different cheerleading is in real life than it is in the movies. I think the first Bring it On is one of the closest movies we'll get to see that show how competitive and physically demanding it. We'll get more fashion videos but I love movies and pop culture too🥺 Who's your favorite pop culture cheerleader? I'm stuck between Isis from Bring it On and Santana from Glee💕

@@rat7016 I agree! Your fashion videos are great too, but I wouldn't complain about seeing more about pop culture as well (and let's be real, they go hand in hand) - if the video is well researched and presented in a digestable format, we'll be here to watch it 😊

LOVE these discussion style video so BRING IT ON! (ha get it? lmao i'm corny too) and I just rewatch John Tucker Must Die and Ashanti's character was literally how the 2000s wanted you to think all cheerleaders were smh. I'm just glad these kind of conversation are being had, would love to hear what you have to say about the "girly girl" trope or the "i'm not like other girl". also brunette Taylor Swift as the mean cheerleader in the YBWM music vid deserve some attention so she's my fav 💌

@@PelliFashLife ugh I love hearing your opinions!! And yes this video made me rewatch John Tucker Must Die for like the millionth time. It's really fun to have these conversations and it would be super cool to make delve into those topics thanks you the suggestions💓💓 and yes the Taylor Swift YBWM cheerleader is iconic

I think it's really interesting to see the transformation over time of how a cheerleader was perceived; I'm not sure if you've heard about how Star Trek's original fanbase was predominantly women, but it's now perceived as a boys club - so it's interesting to see how different activities/hobbies will flip over time. Being a cusper/growing up with all of the movies from 2000s forward that you touched on, it definitely impacted my perception of what cheerleaders were like (even though I grew up doing dance/competitive female-dominated spaces). For growing up with these shows and movies, I never questioned how the girls would be hypersexualised as a teen, but now I'm bothered by just the idea of a student being stuck in a cheer uniform in school all day (mind you, I'm from a colder climate, but still). The only modern/contemporary mainstream cheerleader depiction I can think of would the Vixens from Riverdale - which is an oof and a half of a show - and while some of how Cheryl is presented is the stereotypical mean girl, the character has a lot else going on that it feels like only a small part of how she's portrayed (in the first few seasons). I'm curious if you feel like there's a parallel archetype that's showing up in teen media now that would have been filled by a cheerleader in the 90s-2010s? As always, great video, and I can't wait to see what else you produce :)

Every time I think of bring it on or a cheerleader movie I always remember the belly button rings. So when I was trying out for cheer, and they said we couldn’t wear belly buttons rings I was soooooooo disappointed.

I rbwr before I went into middle school and high school I thought cheerleaders were gonna be the most popular girls in the school like in the movies but it’s not like that at all or at least my experience the volleyball girls were the popular girls and the cheerleaders weren’t even all that

i loved watching cheerleader in movies and tv shows bc they existance of cheerleaders is very weird to me sonce it's a very gringo thing. i had never seen a cheerleader in my life and i was half convinced that they just existed in movies lmao, anyways cheerleaders were always fascinating to me and i miss them in modern shows.
