@@ariancontreras4358 I’m not saying the movie was shitting on Galen, just on the loyalist imperial engineer of that video. I mean, in this video the designer of the Death Star is a competent imperial loyalist, in Rogue on it’s a competent traitorous engineer with zero common sense (because I’m sorry but you don’t need to design a power generator so that it’ll explode when its output is enough to destroy a whole planet, that’s already contained within the very concept of such a powerful generator, what you do need is to find a good way to deliver the info to the resistance and a good way to make sure they can exploit it, and as far as Rogue one is concerned he did neither. Hell, if he had actually that much freedom it would’ve probably been easier to make it so that the whole DS explodes the moment it exceeds certain power outputs), so it’s definitely a step down (from this video’s engineer’s perspective).

For those watching after Rogue One: The thermal exhaust port itself was not the trap made by Galen. The trap was the chain reaction that was caused by such a shot obliterating the station rather than just crippling it. You really think the empire wouldn't notice a thermal exhaust port going straight to the main reactor? Not that such an explanation was needed. To reach the exhaust port one had to A- fight through hundreds of imperial ties B- get past hundreds more turbolasers, of which the slightest touch would vaporize a star-fighter C- navigate a long trench while dodging turbolasers and enemy fighters with little to no room to dodge And D- somehow, while dodging fighters and turbolasers as stated above, successfully shoot at least 1 torpedo through a miniscule opening in such a perfect way that it wouldn't impact the surface of the exhaust port or angle on its 60 kilometer decent down the shaft and impact on one of the inner shaft walls WHILE flying several tens of thousands MPH Han's claim that the shot was "one in a million" is an vast understatement. That shot is literally impossible without MASSIVE plot convenience aka the force literally holding Luke's hand and guiding his aim and timing.

@DB61958 жыл бұрын
Rogue One doesn't invalidate this video. Galen stated that he rigged the reactor to be unstable, not that he planted the exhaust port. Even then he put it in a trench covered with gun turrets. Also, keep in mind that everyone who made that run *died*. Some of which were legitimately prodigy pilots. Also remember how Luke stated that the computer could hit it? He. Was. Wrong. Red Leader, with a perfect shot and lock from the computer *missed*. The exhaust port *can't be hit conventionally*. Even then Vader would have killed Luke had Han not shown up. So even with the powerful force sensitive in the history of the galaxy, guided by the spirit of one of the greatest Jedi in galactic history, escorted by two of the best pilots in the Empire *Failed*. Why is this a thing? It was a *fluke*. Also, to address the second Death Star. They solved the design flaw. Instead of one exhaust port, several thousand millimeter wide ones were spread throughout the station. The reason there were holes in it is because it was still under *fucking construction*. How do you think they are going to get large parts and supplies to the deeper parts of station? Heck the work on the reactor was only completed *hours* beforehand (remember at the start of the movie the Moff was begging for more time).

Did you get it Negative it just hit the surface So in other words it's basically impossible to get a clear shot if they added some metal plating around the core. Luke would've lost because they only had time to make one hit. In short. If that hit failed the entire empire could redouble there efforts and retake control of the situation. Hence why ben said "Use the force" I can see why george had no hope for this series after reading this. Atleast on Star Killer there was actual strategic weakpoints.

Ok so apparently, 99% of people in the comments didn't understand Rogue One at all because this video has absolutely nothing to do with Rogue One. Nothing at all. The weakness that Galen intentionally added is that an explosion in that specific reactor would cause a chain reaction that would blow up the entire station. They outright say its ''below the main reactor'' so its not even the main reactor they are blowing up to get this result. Thats the plot hole Rogue One fix, the fact a single torpedo could blow up a space station the size of a planet, not the frigging exhaust port! They litterally never even talk about an exhaust port! Galen probably expected them to sneak in and plant a bomb there, they just had to go with the exhaust port because they were out of time.
@jarjarbinkssithlord8346 жыл бұрын
A lot of Star Wars fans don't count what Disney is doing as cannon anymore. They mostly consider theirs as more of fan-fict. Movie quality fan-fiction but still. Mostly due to Kathleen Kennedy and other screwing with Star Wars so much so that they had one of their most profitable and a fan favorite character, Han Solo, movie flop. So this just goes to show yeah they might have made a decent movie, Rouge one, but I do not believe that is the way George Lucas would have taken it.

I noticed he keeps calling it a bomb, but a proton torpedo is technically a self-propelled explosive device akin to a missile. They are more manouverable than they seem, and are easily able to make a downward turn like they did in the trench run. According to the wiki, the exhaust port was ray-shielded (resistant against lasers, but something the alliance torpedoes could penetrate) as normal shields would not allow the exhaust port to vent properly.

If the rocket was required to make a 90 degree turn downward after being fired, how was anyone in the rebellion expecting the mission to succeed? They had the schematics, and so they had to have known about this. At this point, no one in the Rebel Forces knew of Luke's Jedi abilities, and therefore could not have known he would be able to make that impossible shot. And if someone, somehow, did know of Luke's abilities, then why were other pilots also trying to make the shot instead of just providing cover fire for Luke? What if Luke had died in the battle? So they were covering their bases this time around. Palpatine made sure the Rebels would know this, forcing them to attempt a strike while the Death Star II was still under construction, and throw everything they had at it.

If it didn't, it would have been easily spotted. So the same rules would have to apply. Also keep in mind that making this type of flaw would be a last ditch effort, and the success of it working would be low.
@flametitan1008 жыл бұрын
What was really nice about the flaw was how Galen describes it. He doesn't say that there's an exhaust port that conveniently leads to the core. As I remember it playing in the film, he says that the weapon has been rigged so that destroying a certain reactor would set off the chain reaction needed to destroy the system. The exhaust port was merely one way to set it off.

Okay my question is this: _did_ the pipe _have_ to be straight for miles on end? I mean, a single angle or turn would've made it impossible for a bomb to go all the way to the core.

Freethinkers Politics/discussion let me ask you this, does a sharp turn stop a bomb driven by a universal power ?, If according to the video
@Varsocona5 жыл бұрын
First, I agree. Second, I think there may be a reason for this. This exhaust port was for the main reactor which powered the Death Star laser. Considering how much energy is required to blow up a planet, we're talking a great deal of heat build-up as a side effect. Like they mention in the video, the fact that he limited it to one tiny exhaust port the size of a womp rat is a miracle of engineering in and of itself. If you take into account the sheer amount of heat they're trying to disperse, and in such a small and confined space as the exhaust port (to try and limit entry for exactly what happened in the movie) then a straight shaft would be necessary. If you had a bunch of bends and turns it would have built up heat in those corners, damaging the station every time it fired.

Rogue One could have done with some spectacular script trimming. The entire "child Jyn Erso" plot needed to go, and a good portion of the Saw Gerrera stuff. Basically anything that didn't sit inside the viewpoint of the main plot (so no need to see the pilot get captured or tortured, just run into him unexplained in the holding cell) and cut all backstory related trash. It's a good 5 script doctor streamlines short of final draft.

This makes me think that the plot for Rogue One doesn't make sense as the exhaust port was obviously not a real weak point, unless Galen Erso was counting with the magic space wizards, which I doubt.
@TheExecutorr6 жыл бұрын
I actually made that mistake too at first, but it was already commented somewhere on this video that this is not the case. The weakpoint that Rogue One is about is not the vent that leads to the reactor, but the reactor itself. Because this is only a small side reactor, not the main one, but if an explosion is caused inside this side reactor, a chain reaction will blow up the whole station. That is the actual sabotage. The intention was probably to sneak in and plant a bomb there.

@Mustiboi Salman no. Because, unlike KK's shitty handywork, Palpatine's return in Legends was done RIGHT. He was sudden, but foreshadowed through many stories. Everything, including Thrawn's saga, was leading to his return. Not gonna spoil, but everything is connected there. And Emperor's return wasn't so shoehorned, unlike Sequel Trillogy. Yeah, the 2nd Death Star wasn't finished. If it had been, it would've had a very large number of VERY tiny ventilation shafts far too small to shoot anything down thus making the 2nd Death Star impossible to destroy by a couple dozen enemy fighters.
@SeedlingNL Жыл бұрын
@@girlgarde There shouldn't be exhaust ports to begin with... you cool the core by using a supercoolant loop that absorbs heat at the core, is pumped around to the surface where it goes through radiators to radiate the heat into space. Or you dump it into a heatsink, jettison it at the nearest enemy starship and watch it cook the crew instantly at first contact with the hull... Then again, a magic space wizard could use a photon torpedo to take out the coolant loop controls through that same hole, resulting in the same outcome..

Here is a very overlooked quote from A New Hope: "It is a small thermal exhaust port, *right below the main port."* It was never a plothole. It was never sabotage. It was a very minor detail that was overlooked by the Empire.
@GaryLuKOTH10 ай бұрын
It was not even overlooked, because it was heavily guarded by laser cannons. Not to mention that Dodonna also said in the presentation that the shaft was ray-shielded, so the types of projectiles that they could use to target the port were limited as well. This does not even account for how the Rebels would not even have found the weakness or even have known that it was ray-shielded had they not been lucky enough to obtain the Death Star plans. The defense was actually well-planned. The Rebels were just lucky.
@andromededp53163 жыл бұрын
The fact is, even in the new canon, it’s not the exhaust port's fault. The sabotage consisted of rigging the core to explode the entire station. It should also be pointed out that the designers never thought it would be possible for any fighters to get anywhere near the station, firstly because they just never thought of hyperspace capable fighters, and because the station should have been equipped with so many TIE fighters that the rebels would never have been able to gather a sufficient amount of pilots to take it by force. The loss of the Death Star was more due to the fact that it was understaffed, and because the entire Imperial military doctrine was flawed

Having just rewatched A New Hope, I distinctly remember the first attack run consisting of Y-Wings. Those are bombers, right? The X-wings didn’t move in until the Ys were dead already. So clearly the X-wing attack run was a desperation assault made when the desperation assault was looking even more desperate than before. They were probably only there in the first place to protect the Ys.
