7:25 "I'm sorry, I can do better" Wow, that did hurt me as a fan of this man, his work is always great. It sounded as if his content was not as good as we expect it and that's why he either feels pressure or thinks his work isn't good enough. And he has been in KZbin for around 13 years now. How does he only have 2M subs? This is definitely top tier quality content, but that phrase makes me feel bad...
@elliottharris74964 жыл бұрын
I think that's the point. It's not necessarily that he's blaming you or his fans but that he has trouble dealing with perfectionism, which starts with the self and is amplified by criticism. You would be right to feel sad for him that his own expectations and those of others end in making him feel like he's not enough, but this video is about him recognizing that and wanting to make a change for a healthier, more fulfilling life as a creative.
@Kyle_Reese4 жыл бұрын
I kind of feel stupid for not knowing what he is, im just a new fan of him.
@Horvath_Gabor4 жыл бұрын
The reason why he doesn't have a ton more subs is because he doesn't upload consistently. His individual videos are amazing, but because they are so sporadic, the algorithm doesn't recommend them as often as if he was putting out weekly or bi-weekly content. Less recommendations means less views, less views mean lower priority in the algorithm, lower priority means less recommendations, and the cycle continues.
@dakotamcmillan3 жыл бұрын
@@Horvath_Gabor -- that's probably part of it, but he also doesn't push for views either. he isn't tagging his videos or advertising or asking for subs and shares, which i respect. i do wish he tagged his vids some though, or just a little SEO.

This was the video saying “I’m done trying to do a video a month” and since, there’s only been a hand full of uploads. I totally understand too. I think a lot of resentment towards other KZbinrs, especially near his subject, steams from how little they have to do to make multiple videos a week and still have a huge following, all while he is giving it his all just trying to compete with his OWN countdown. What all those commenters laughing at the “start of the year” line haven’t noticed is that Captain D actually said “it’s the end of the year!” and he had to edit the audio afterward when he ironically missed that deadline to get the video out. You can see and hear it if you pay close attention. The reason for the deadline motif in this video was because he was trying to get the video out “on time” by the end of the year so he had to rush through the old backlog. But he actually missed that deadline so had to change the audio to say “start of the year”. And then the video still didn’t come out until April. Kinda drives home the whole point that the was making about self imposed deadlines.

Also related to the fact that he turned 40, and maybe he wanted to do something big by the time he reached that age. For a lot of people the age of 40 is a midpoint, the middle of your life, and people usually think that by that age you have to be realised and have reached you dreams

For those of you wondering, based on the audio queues, he reset the clock to 10.9 years, probably 11 based on that close of a decimal. The beeps count 100 days, but no special sound for each year. So if it beeps 40 times (approximate # of times it beeped) for each 100 days, that's 4,000 days. Divide by 365 and that's 10.9 years. Edit: You can see the days at 215 at the end, so it's 10 years, 215 days. Math checks out that he intended the timer to end at January 2031. (maybe January 2030 because it's a nice round number and I got the beep count wrong. Always allow for margins of error.)

The overarching message of deadlines and relevancy being a self-made construct points to a significant truth in a very elegant way. Captain, you are an amazing writer.
@hdx98204 жыл бұрын
Self impossed deadlines maybe, but career/job impossed ones are not that way. You subject yourself to someone else's time and goals, that's why you have to be able to set realistic deadlines according to your capacities. I'm all in for the happy message, but that just applies to people that are their own boss like him, KZbinrs, influencers and most free-lancers. And even then free-lancers really know the value of having to juggle time around, personal, corporative and free

I love how you casually just reinvented the whole "debunking" style of video by including a narrative and moral at the end, and didn't even go for a cheesy overly done moral, but instead a deep one that was sort of hard to tackle without the use of analogies, which your video just so happened to be a perfect analogy to represent and fluently transition into the moral at the end, but even the subtlety of your humor is incredible. I feel like you capitalize on every chance to make a mundane shot, funny. You even stack jokes on top of each other for a single scene, like when "Alan" is called in. Not only is captain D's actor his assistant, but the over the top reaction to getting shown appreciation, followed by captain d's dismissal. Add to all that what "alan" was wearing. Your show feels like you took the formula to a kids a show but adapted it to fit around your style of video, then instead of writing cheap jokes for kids you had written some really deep jokes and sprinkled in some cheap jokes to really throw everyone off

His edit with the broom at the very end is how he thinks Zach King did the ladder video, almost didn't catch that Genius

@@MartinCura Yeah seems to be that way. Idk what it has to do with the ladder video. CD just grabbed a broom tossed to him and started sweeping, the yellow was probably tracked to it and he masked away the first few frames of the broom entering the shot before he catches it

@@The_Hatt I'd say it's similar insofar as it involves inserting a digital element that is then replaced by the real object.

That corridor comment was perfect. They are awesome guys but definitely hamming it up on the vfx reacts (which is fine, who cares)

I’m still shocked at the little amount of subscribers and views that this guy gets... The amount of effort he has been putting into the production of his videos consistently for years now... This should *easily* be a 5 million+ subscriber channel. Anyway, glad you’re back bro.

I think, if he was consistent with his content uploads, he would have many more subscribers. I am just happy for new content!

When the timer started appearing in tiny sections I was like "Wow, what a cool concept. I wonder what it's a counter for." And then when it was revealed, I was moved at the depth and meaning of it. Thanks.

@@SimF1e His 40th birthday was just a few days after this video was posted. The description of the video is "Captain Disillusion faces the scariest of all nemeses." The video is about coping with aging, personal deadlines and perceived failure -- i.e., everyone's path in life is unique, don't be too hard on yourself.

@@clcsqueejy04 yeah i didn't know about his birthday, but it's on Alan's shirt... and he's Alan. So this is him saying "I used to think I'd have made more videos by this time in life, but oh well, I'm not dead". I had watched the video many times before and never realized any of this
