To clarify. Le fayet is not a ski town! The lift that I am taking at the start is just for access to St Gervais. There is no skiing in Le Fayet (normally!). You very rarely have lying snow at 500m elevation in this part of the Alps! This was truly exceptional, no hype!

totally awesome. You gotta take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime situations, and you did! Great!

Awesome! Had some fantastic times in St Gervais/Megeve on powder days when, inevitably, Chamonix areas were shut due to avalanche risk, when I did my seasons there (97-98, 98-99, 06-07). I don't think I ever managed to ski back to the St Gervais lift base, though there is/was a piste, always had to take the lift down from Le Bettex. Back of Les Houches and Les Contamines are good too. Thanks for the videos, I'm enjoying watching the start to this season after the snow-no-show last year, looking forward to the end of Jan when I'll be there!

@@Ginjaian 3 seasons and you never took the home run? That's very unlucky! I think every season I have tsnen it at least once, even if there is some waling involved. It is very rarely open outside of February half term, but it us often ski able. It doesn't take much snow depth to be possible as it's all on grass!

Looks like it’s stacking up to be a great year for Chamonix.

Man this rain sucks. I'm in St Gervais for the season. Arrived 28th to snow everywhere at all altitudes, could ski thru the trees at the bottom of Les Houches down to the village. The rain melted everything.

I’ve skied at St Gervais for years (also working 2 seasons). It’s bit lower than many other resorts and maybe that’s why it’s ignored by many who travel to the higher resorts hoping for some “snow sure” conditions. But in all the years that I’ve been going there there has only been 1 or 2 seasons that I would have called poor. As you’ll know the Evasion area is big with lots of varied piste skiing for all abilities.
