Looked up Tom Morello about the pedal. I LOVE the reason why he threw it on. It was to get a west coast hip-hop vibe. Got my whammy 3 from a pawnshop for 65. Also along with a DOD death metal distortion for 25. pretty much a nu metal kit.

the best part of the whammy is that it's not "that pitch shift in your multieffects or that came with your DAW" which sounds horrifying; and it's not some "it's just like your guitar is really an octave up!" perfection effect; it sounds unique. As an octave harmonizer it actually mixes your sound pitched down or up an octave in instead of doing something else like making a square wave or whatever those octavia things do; the sound is filtered with some kind of formant filter so it isn't too shrill going up or lacking high end while going down; some of the clanky digital aliasing is still in the sound; and there's that little bit of delay that just does something textural. Turn it on and don't shift the treadle and it sounds like you put an extremely short delay on your signal that comb filters it like you're in a tube. It's especially fun on bass, when you can abruptly crank up an octave-up or harmony octave up to scream through the mix and scare your cat.
@harrychrisrobin3 жыл бұрын
I’d noticed the shift in signal with it turned on and not altering the pitch, I have it in several of my stereo patches and having it turned on in on side really changed up the stereo field. Such an amazing tool even when it’s not being used 😂😂

Nice one man. Let me know how you get on with it! That was sort of the point of this video, make people think about practicing with their gear as well as the guitar. I see a lot of people think buying the next pedal will fix their tone. Like I said at the end of the video, it’s only as good as you are.

what would be cool is if somebody made a pedal that can go momentarily octave down/up which is more realistic to a real whammy system and then also have a momentary fixed-rate vibrato switch that slows down at the end for simulating flutter but obviously when you have a double-locking trem you can lift the guitar up by the bar like herman li or alexi laiho then turning your strings into metal spaghetti when doing a divebomb though your hands aren’t as free to tap for example while pitch-shifting everything

Great video! Are u sure that don't want to a youtuber as a full-time job? 😅😂 Serious question: Do u think that the whammy 6 will wave some sort of memory bank, an fx loop or a stereo in/out and another version with all that plus the DT side of the whammy DT version?
@harrychrisrobin3 жыл бұрын
I'd love to youtube full time as long as I could rely on it. Let's see if I can get monetised first haha I don't know what the whammy 6 could possibly have. I'd say it's safe to say it'll have all the great features we've seen previously. Perhaps it'll go more towards what the DT had but maybe make it more compact? Who knows, I know I'd be excited to give it a go
@migasbalasteiro3 жыл бұрын
@@harrychrisrobin do u think that could be like an the fishman triple play system here u have to buy the pick up and the switch separately. Meaning that the Whammy 6 could have the same form and have a external footswicht in to control the bank's, and the DT version be more like an multi fx unit, with 1 or more external expression pedals and in the unit u can have the switchers (and yes of course keeping the MIDI, and probably adding like a programmable way to do the effect like map of the problematique or unsustainable, in a way of not requiring any external source.
@harrychrisrobin3 жыл бұрын
@@migasbalasteiro I doubt it could ever do the map of sound. Yeah it could be programmed in but you’d want to play around with the sound itself and then you’d want to control the bpm of it and the pitch shifting sequence which would be a lot and the big thing is being able to sync it up to the track itself. It’s easy for me because I’ve a midi track in sync with the track but you can’t do that sort of thing well just by ear
