Interestingly enough, the reason milk is put in first is because proper bone china will crack and even EXPLODE if you pour the hot water in before the milk, hence, milk first, water after

This is the most informative video on British tea making I have see to date. No other video I have seen explained not washing the inside of the pot, I can see how you would wash away the characteristic flavors by scrubbing the pot clean. Cheers Pete

Thanks Mr Krasker! It's the little things that make the difference. We even have regional variations on whether we call it brewing or mashing. Technically it is mashing of course; because the leaves are infused in boiled water, where brewing requires fermentation using yeast. I hope I don't sound pedantic.

Not at all pedantic, it is the little things as you say that make life enjoyable. I don't think anyone would tell the lads in that tea poster that they where pedantic, I do believe the world is lacking civility and decorum and it would do people well to slow down and sit and enjoy a cup of tea.

Thanks! The guys in the poster are friends from the Whistlestop Motorcycle Club in Rhuddlan, North Wales, one of whom is my brother Richard. The guy with the pinkie sticking up is called 'Dozer' cos he once barged his way through a brick wall! They are great guys to know, but you're right - you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of them! Tea has that calming and civilizing effect

Thanks for the informative video, Pete! The whole ritual and history behind British tea is very interesting -- you read accounts of people brewing up in the most inhospitable conditions -- even though I'm a black coffee guy and will pour any old swill down my throat as long as it's caffeinated!

You're right there CYB. I remember trying to make brews on a Scottish mountain, with wind driven rain coming uphill and into my frozen face! There are some aspects of military life I'm more than happy to leave behind me. I believe tea has a higher caffeine content than coffee; but by the way it is infused, less of it finds solution with water than with coffee.

I like Yorkshire Tea too and I'm very fond of Earl Grey. My brother prefers English Breakfast Tea. There is one Irish tea I really love and that's Bewleys Irish Afternoon Tea, it reminds me of a happy time I had in Dublin in 2002.
