Rather a lot of button presses to switch on your Garmin backlight Richard. I just set mine to always on. It's then much simpler to change from 0% brightness during the day to something % at night.

This is true, but I find the battery life much longer if not kept in Always On mode all day. Looking to replace the 530 soon enough as the face of the Garmin nearly rattled off - it's been held on with a zip tie at the moment! So maybe a new model makes it easier lol

If you don't mind me asking, what gearing have you got on that bicycle. Front chainrings and back cassette?

Sure, I've be riding with 46/30 oval chainrings on the front and 34 cassette on the rear for the last couple of years. I've just ordered some new chainrings though as they were well and truly worn gone with 48/32 this time and I have a 30 cassette which has been gathering dust for a year or two I will be putting that on.

Summer shorts and top really ? Ditch all of the bags and the try bars. Lighten your bike you would get up park rash then. I sure wouldn’t have been doing a ride like that in conditions that bad.

Yeah it was because of the conditions that you need to make sure you have a means of carrying a rain jacket. As for Park Rash, I've just ordered new components for the drive train as the gear was very worn out for this ride I didn't wanna push it.

I was right about the weather. West Yorkshire dales will always be all four seasons. Never underestimate it.
