Oof, that intro reminded me of my grandparents. My grandma especially dedicated herself to church service in a small river valley town. When she passed, she gave the home (two stories) to the church across the street... They bulldozed it for additional parking.

I'll admit that back my my lib days, I considered Afghanistan the "just" war and complained bitterly about Iraq. Now I regard them both not as "mistakes" but imperial wars that caused many of the problems (ISIS, the Taliban, etc) that the American war machine is dealing with today. Should also be noted that Genocide Joe is actively starving the Afghans as punishment for the empire having to retreat.

I don’t know how a student of guerrilla warfare can say “Hamas is not even a factor in Gaza.” Israel has lost more troops than in any other operation. They haven’t really been able to clear any areas. Obviously it’s an asymmetrical war but also Israel is notoriously casualty averse. I straight up hate when Westerners belittle and portray Palestinians as victims with no agency. That is not how they see themselves and not how they actually are. The ingenuity and perseverance of the resistance in Gaza will go down in history as one of the great resistance movements of the 21st century just as the Vietnamese resistance was in the 21st. That comment makes me think he must not be closely following things on the ground.

By this metric, the Ukrainians are kicking ass🙄
@LuizAlexPhoenix10 ай бұрын
@@marcsimard2723 I mean, the difference is that Ukraine has an army and genuinely had more soldiers than Russia in the conflict for the vast majority of the war, relying on NATO beyond itself. Hamas is a militia formed inside a ghetto, they are a resistance faction formed from Fatah (in great part by the zionists fracturing Fatah from the inside and supressing Fatah while supporting Hamas). It's less that Hamas is doing well, but that they and other resistance groups are dealing damage while facing an extermination campaign. This is a completely difference context.

I take a lot of issues with the idea that collaborators are simply people who were oppressed by local powers and sought to ally with external ones. They are by all accounts simply opportunistic bastards who are willing to betray their own people and condemn many to inhumane conditions or death for personal gain. The conditions in Algeria during the French occupation were catastrophic, most Algerians were treated like animals, so when France abandoned them it was no surprise that Harkis got imprisoned or killed as they were actively assisting an occupation that killed millions and made the remaining people miserable to say the least. In the end collaborators are much closer to the occupiers than they are to their own people and they always end up learning the same lesson which is that the occupiers do not view them as anything other than useful idiots and will abandon them the second they become troublesome. I find it very hard to have any sympathy towards collaborators, it is actually easier to sympathize with occupiers than collaborators. Long story short don't be a collaborator, it never pans out and no one will save you when it falls apart nor feel sad for what happens to you.

For someone who is a "war nerd", not understanding the strategic retreat of Russian army during SPO from Kiev to allow diplomatic channels to go through is a bit problematic. Worst, though, is not understanding why Iran is the enemy of izrael and daddy amurika, namely because it is the main supporter of the Axis of Resistance through weaponry, moral leadership and strategy.

Honestly, little off putting how much admiration is given to a feudal ideology that has been used as the main justification for colonialism and the worst aspects of modern imperalism on a supposedly Marxist podcast. Why is it a bad that Christianity is diminishing in America?
@patrickholt227010 ай бұрын
You'd have to have more familiarity with scripture to begin to know why, as well familiarity with the consistent radical and revolutionary tendency in Church history that results from the class analysis, condemnations of class society and commandments for drastic redistribution of wealth found all over scripture.
@entertainproxi91403 ай бұрын
Christianity is a religion, it is misinterpreted by ideologies (both purposefuly and not) but isn't an ideology itself, the same happens with islam in Saudi arabia (preachers silencing criticism while the heir is doing unislamic things near Mecca) and in izrael where they use judaism as the backbone of a fascist ethnostate, the common aspect of all these governments is their ideology is clearly far right, religion is just the world view of the people that are governed so the fascism disguises itself through scholars the same way it does with liberal Atheists who are slowly turning towards the right with prominent neo atheist and debate bro figures defending far right and pro war ideas. Either way you said it yourself, it was used as a justification, that doesn't mean it was the real motive, don't repeat the mistakes of former socialist movements, religious people are the bulk of the workers.
