Only in the collective West. The rest of the world is looking much more optimistic. The global south is rising alongside China. US imperialist hegemony is being destroyed bit by bit by Russia and China, the dollar is losing relevance, the US is failing in its proxy wars and losing its grip over all but its most subjugated vassals, the imperial core is going into economic crisis, Latin American and African nations are asserting their independence, developing and pushing back against neocolonialism with the help of BRICS and the BRI. The more the West collapses due to its own suicidal policies the better off the rest of the world will be.

I wouldn't call it all sunshine and rainbow but in my case, it has became better for the last two years. I moved back to my home country after 8 years living in Germany and saw much progress has been made. The covid pandemic was terrifying but a good shakeup, forcing many reforms, many corrupted officials have been jailed. And while this sounds like a PR move but we have been sending some firefighters to Turkey to help with the earthquake situation. The majority of our people now immigrate to the West not because they have no future here like in the past but because they want to get richer, returning home is still on the table for everyone. We a still far behind the Western world but we are making progress. As long as people don't get complacent with the progress we have made, the idea of a successful socialist state won't be out of reach.

@@jamiemcintosh3030 No solidarity to France. No solidarity to the US. They are the exact entities keeping places like Greece as debt colonies and in destitution. The working class of those countries are complicit in the destruction of the world, and as long as they keep themselves in line with global capitalist imperialism and murder, they deserve no solidarity. The French protests right now are just, but do not represent any common desire for socialist change. Ad long as these countries, by and large, maintain the chauvinistic beliefs of superiority and entitlement on a global scale, I have no sympathy for their self-serving movements. Yes, I grieve for the individual struggles of downtrodden people in both those countries, but "solidarity for France"? "Solidarity for the United States"? No. Not ever. Until their populace changes their tune. Unlike France and the US, Greece actually has left-wing movements that get shit done, as little as it is in the grand scheme of things.

I especially felt the part about where I'm from, Turkey. My heart still sinks for all of us, especially the victims. After this earthquake, people in Istanbul started saying 'Okay, we're next'. They're not far from the truth either, since the plates and fault lines causing this most recent earthquake is connected to the ones that will eventually cause a major earthquake in the Istanbul region. Another frightening thing is that the population density in Istanbul is far greater than of the southeast region, which will make the search, rescue and aid almost impossible, affecting 1/4 of the population and destroying almost the entire economy of the country.

The French pension reform bill was passed btw. They used article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows the PM to pass a bill without a vote in the Parliament. This is the *ELEVENTH* time Elisabeth Borne (Macron's PM) has used this article in 10 months of being PM. It's outrageous because Macron does not have an absolute majority in the National Assembly (lower house of the Parliament), but still gets to do whatever the fuck he wants. No one in France is still under the illusion that the government is democratic. A vote is being held for the PM to be impeached, we'll see how it evolves

@charlesdaloz2547
@charlesdaloz2547 Жыл бұрын
@@LVArturs Macron was elected as the "lesser evil" against far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, despite being incredibly unpopular himself. The current Constitution was written by right-wing general Charles de Gaulle in 1958. Its goal was to give practically all power to the president (with the PM still holding lots of power), making de Gaulle a quasi-dictator during his rule. It was adopted by referendum because of de Gaulle's legitimacy as the leader of the French Resistance during WW2, during a climate of political instability. Moreover, in 2000, it was decided by referendum to hold a presidential election every 5 years instead of 7. This resulted in presidential elections coinciding perfectly with legislative elections, which guarentees with high certainty that the president and PM that get elected are from the same party, effectively giving even more power to the president. So that's how we came to this. A system where, every now and then, we get to choose between a fascist and a neoliberal who will effectively rule as a monarch for the next 5 years. As for why we can't even get a social-democratic candidate in either of those positions anymore, it's because of the actual fascist propaganda being promoted on mainstream media outlets such as CNEWS, which is owned by far-right billionaire Vincent Bolloré (this guy owns like half the media outlets in France) The two most prominent left-wing parties of the twentieth century, the PS and PCF, have massively deviated to the right and lost in popularity as a result. It's hard to rebuild a movement in such conditions

7 minutes and a half (from 1:08:51 to 1:16:20) of FREE DEPROGRAM! What a really nice gift! :D Now, on the topics at question: • I don't think I fit really well in any of the three groups Yugopnik mentioned at the start of the episode, I'm more on the first one (because theory is based), but I also love the random banter like the second one, and I play Tetris while listening the podcast like the third one. • Yes, markets already found a solution: is to let people die in order for railway corporations to make a profit by cutting corners at safety provisions! It's rather amazing how backwards the supposedly "richest country on Earth" actually is in terms of infrastructure - where most of the world have their railway networks already publicly owned, the US still insist in illogically keeping them private. • Fuck US/NATO imperialism, fuck Russian aggression for oligarchical interests, fuck Ukranian crypto-fascist government, and fuck anybody who support this stupid war. No war but class war! Enough people have already died for capitalist corporate interests, and yet the gulls in Washington and the Kremlin insist is not enough! • I'm kind of optimistic for the development of the Latin American currency for foreign exchange, as well as the end of the Washington Consensus and the dollar as global currency. Great episode as always!

hey, i'm one of your listeners from ukraine and i have a question about the usa's (and others') financial and military aid to my country what's your socialist take on what is to be done? i realize that the perfect scenario would be that the working class of both ukraine and russia rose up against our bourgeoisie and that would kind of end the conflict. but we see that the material conditions for a revolt like that just aren't met. i would say both nations are deeply submerged in nationalist propaganda (though i feel like russians are more rabid and deluded with their flavor of insanity) so what's there to do? like honestly i am grateful that the west has given us weapons and money, i am grateful that the ukrainian military has held out for so long because otherwise i would be living in an occupied city, and as a trans woman existing under russian martial law would pretty much mean death for me, i would have to go back into the closet and i would die before i did that to myself i often hear you lament the billions spent on war, and i understand this vibe. war is fucking hell and i would never wish it upon my worst enemy. it would be cool to end it. but how would pulling western aid to ukraine help the situation? is your solution to just let the russian ruling class roll over and make a fucking colony of my homeland? because that's what it often sounds like when you talk about it (which i know, or at least believe, is not your take) i would love to hear what you have to say and i hope you realize that sometimes it's hard to listen to people removed from this particular conflict talk about how the military aid that is (seemingly) protecting me from russian occupation should cease (just to clarify i am fully aware that our western "partners" don't give a shit about ukrainian lives or "freedom" it's about profit and power) love and solidarity Ⓐ 🏳️‍⚧️ ☭ - xenia

Hey, don't be rude! Us, Eastern Europeans, aren't after power or profit here. We're just scared to fullpantsness (и у нас нет чемоданчика для этого как у Пыни). And generally I don't think Europe is profiting from this, with all the resource problems. Though having a victorious Ukraine on our side would be good for power. But my (non-emotional) argument is that leaving Russia remain as it is and subsuming Ukraine, too, is bad for scientific progress. The rotten institutions are wasting the potential of the educated populations.

@@xenia_mkII did anyone want to weaken "imperialist rivals", at least in Europe? We had all the nice Nord Streams and the ignoring of Crimea and Donbas and friendly Russians buying our luxury goods and villas and yachts etc. garbage. But now that it's started - it's started, something has to be done. And higher-ups deciding to send aid - yeah, that's how representative democracy works. Polls mostly aren't in discord with that decision either. But USA are definitely playing the hardcore geopolitics with Putin. My current pet theory for why USA is slow-walking support (it could make you win fast, if it wanted to), is that Biden wants Ukraine to win closer to elections - so his re-election chances improve.

All of Ukraine needs to be demilitarized and denazified by Russia. Western weapons will only prolong the conflict and get more Ukrainians killed and more of Ukraine destroyed, they will not change the outcome. You have been played for fools and used by the western imperialists. They brainwashed you with nationalism while your puppet leaders sold out the entire Ukrainian working class. It's maybe the biggest disagreement among the left. I tend towards funding Ukraine but I did hear it was a loan, like we did to England during ww2. England paid the last of it a few years ago. I'm always going to side with the small country defending themselves, especially democratic ones, against authoritarian A-holes. Like Russia and the United states. Russia has been open about not stopping at Ukraine and continuing into other countries. Which might of happened without aid. I think a better question to those that are against funding is, "should we of funded England during ww2"? Or "should we of joined ww2"? If Vietnam didn't get help America would of crushed them. If the French didn't help America then the United states might of never existed. All through history has been like this. Ukraine exists because of funding. Do you think Ukraine should exist?

I mean, I'm not totally dissagreeing with the premmis, but you know there are fashist states that came into prominence without communists being in power before them, right? For example, an Indonesian mass killings of 1965 - 1966 comes to mind. There the reactionary superstructure pretty much nipped the revolution in the bud. But again, whether or not the state afterwards was "fashist" is a point of contention to this day. I would state a firm YES to that, but others may disagree.

@Arcus Cerebellumus There doesn't need to be communist in power, just a collapsing economy and someone to point the finger to. The whole point of faciscm coming to prominence is to prevent exactly that, which is a communist revolution

@@arcuscerebellumus8797 I think they meant that Hitler targeted communists when he took power.

@@arcuscerebellumus8797 I think they meant "Hitler came after the communists", as in, "First they came for the communists" in the poem by Niemoeller But, even then, with that logic, everyone who even remotely supports capitalism is Hitler then, which is not true. There's Mussolini too

@@Ajente02 the french president used the law 49.3 to pass the reform. It removes the need for the assembly to vote on a law. This way, the retirement reform was able to pass without voting on it. No compromise was done to appease the population, contrary of what said Hakim, they just passed it without asking the people. What a great "democracy".

@@maxencefenoll9823 I was already aware of that. Yet the protests still continue right? From what I've heard, they're now stronger than before the decree. So perhaps they could overturn the law, could they not?

@@Ajente02 no they can t. They will be crushed, it is a revolutionary opportunity and I wish Melenchon would take it, I mean he s 300 years old, what does he have to lose. But I won t get my hopes up.

Unlike them I'm a true communist, I was born on a boat in international waters and have never encroached on the territory of any nation-state. I live entirely off of fish and seaweed, and repair my boat with driftwood. I dropped this comment in a bottle I made in my own onboard glass blowing apparatus from dredged deep sea sand and let one of you dirty capitalists find it so they could type it out to reply to you.
