I think it also has to do with the livery colors for Sodor. Notice how Thomas, Edward, Gordon, etc. are painted blue? Those are the Sodor livery colors that are standard for most engines, like a uniform. The Fat Controller gives them the option to choose a different color because it makes them happier, such as with James. That's why he threatened to paint him blue.

This listen made me realize a thought. The Fat Controller had numbers 9 and 10 put on Donald and Douglas as soon as they arrived. Numbers in the railway series are reserved for what order the engines were bought in. Think this means that he had already decided to keep both from the beginning, after the initial shock. Long before the deputation. Or say he got rid of Donald. Would Douglas have been renumbered to 9 or stayed 10 and the NWR would just be without a number 9 to this day? Or if Douglas would have been the one to be sent away. Would 10 have been regiven to the next engine to arrive. Or would they have continued on to 11. Leaving the railway without a number 10. The type of thoughts i have. But had Douglas been sent away. He wouldn't have been around to help Oliver get to the railway. Meaning no number 11. Or 10 and 11 going to entirely diffrent engines that we never got to see

I think they went to a couple of british railway's and recorded the engines whistles,kinda like what they did in the First narated Editions of Edward's day out and Edward and Gordon.

The twins' snowploughs look rather odd. Does it really cover their noses like that yet you can't see the rest of it under the snow? How are they attached, and if the twins had to breathe via their nose and mouth, how would they? Not only that, would the plows leave a mark on the bridge of the twins' noses?

I think it's supposed to be James, but J.T. Kenney got him confused with Edward. Or he had already started drawing/painting Edward before he realised his mistake and it was too late to change it.
