If everyone on Earth saw this it wouldn't matter if nothing is done. This overharvesting of our oceans has been a big problem for 40+ yrs. Education without action is futile. 🌎👀

@@SalyLuz-hc6he The population of cod on Canada's east coast has been catastrophically reduced, but now it seems that they are gradually increasing. This video was made in 2009, when there was no cod farming. Nowadays, cod is also farmed, but the population of all fish, not just cod, is decreasing year by year.🥲

Japs don't eat cod much. The natives of Canada spoke about their rights to fish freely were taken and given to Canadian fishermen... That was the 80/90s. Our families were friends. It was the end of their livelihoods.

Profitability is high for fishing companies but it feeds the world population. Where do you think the fish went? It's in the stomach of the world population. True, marine protected areas will be key to future survival.

It’s not one man with a fishing pole or one family with a small fishing boat that is wiping out species! It’s allowing gigantic and international factory ships to trawl and destroy, without measure. It’s the massive scale, fishing as much as every commercial fishing ship possibly could catch, without any restraint that killed them off.

Maybe we should direct some of our military spending into protecting the environment and supporting the displaced fisherman who's jobs depend on it. Many of our problems could be solved by just working together as a species. Just 25% of the US military budget each year would solve world hunger in 5 years.

This beautiful document does not address demographics and world human overpopulation. When this film was made, in 2007 the world population was roughly 6.5 billion, now, 17 years later, we have added 1.5 billion and we are now over 8 billion , 8 billion eaters more. I think we are largely exaggerating. We can resolve this fish depletion problem and all others at no cost by reducing the human population. If every couple has just one child we can reduce the human population from 8 billion to 2 billion in just two generations. This is not about selective breeding but about fairness for all living creatures on the planet and therefore our own survival.
@SalyLuz-hc6he
@SalyLuz-hc6he 8 ай бұрын
Most countries are having extreme drop-offs in population, to an unsustainable degree. How about focussing on those with more than 1 billion already in their country? Because the most advanced countries are already having the least children.

What a most convenient comment, since China is also supposed to be the largest population on Earth! I'd only trust a report seriously based on "pro capita" statistics, with respect to the US, the EU, India, major Sub-Saharan coastal countries, etc. Same regarding all environmental issues, btw.
