@TigerTiger-wf7xq4 жыл бұрын
@ekklesiast The man Kevin defended in the beginning of the movie was guilty and Kevin knew it but didn’t want to lose because of his vanity of never losing a case. Then he knew the man he defended who killed his family was guilty but still defended him and the murderer was found not guilty. The people John Milton’s firm represented were not good people so I don’t see any conflict with that and Christianity. It showed how Satan can get involved in all kinds of things on Earth

In the book written by Andrew Niederman in 1990, the lawyer actually DOES kill John Milton's Satan character and even gets sentenced to life imprisonment. But I thought that it is almost impossible to kill the devil much less to do so in a way that is like to kill a human. I mean, OK, Arnold Schwarzenegger DOES defeat him in "End of Days" but at the cost of his own life too.

@biggingeryeti If God gave us free will, he also gave us self control. That's the counter-arguement to Satan. By the rules of this film, Neither God nor Satan directly manipulate individuals. "We pull our own strings." The movie pretty much demonstates why God's rules exist without having to spell it out. Kevin and just about everybody in his life suffer because of Vanity, lust, ego, deception... Pretty much everything driven by instinct instead of thought. Wouldn't you agree with that?

The Devil is an actor named Edward Norton, so far as I have been made aware by his self declarations, historically speaking.

I need the uncensored version of the scene. My favorite sculpture used in such a Blasphemous way in this iconic scene was simply magnificent. It's still a great seeing but those special effects with the ex nucleo statue we're just phenomenal. I can't find it anywhere, not exactly surprising considering there was a lawsuit about it. That was almost 20 years ago now there's got to be a clip somewhere. If you find it don't post it here message it to me or something

What sculpture? Why is it blasphemous?
@smartalek1802 жыл бұрын
@@Regmuslima If it still matters 3 yrs later, the original sculpture is called "Ex Nihilo," by Frederick Hart. It's installed in the National Cathedral in DC. Hart also did the Vietnam War memorial sculpture, also in DC. Hart claimed the filmmakers modelled this piece directly on his work, and sued -- successfully. (If I'd been on that jury, the decision might have been different. Judge for yourself here*.) Some Christians think the repurposing of the images to associate them with a representation of the Devil is "blasphemous." Apparently, their deity is even more easily offended than that of the Islamist radicals -- tho, I guess it's to their credit that they haven't beheaded any of the filmmakers. *en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Hart_(sculptor)
