The devil may have gone down to Georgia, but the best damn fiddle player ever is now in Heaven.

Man, I can almost see him now! Walkin' those Streets of Gold, and playin' that fiddle up there for Jesus! I wonder what it'd be like, hearin' him marching up and down those Golden Streets, playin' "Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a Wretch like me! I once was lost, but now I'm found. Twas blind, but now I see"!!! Thankfully, he'd become a Christian quite a few years back, and he wasn't afraid to proclaim his faith in God. Takes a true man or woman, to do that!!!

My kid self, and an avid dislike of any country music..LOVED THE SHOW, got a fake felt cowboy hat, and raced around my neighborhood for months singing this at the top of my lungs! Every time I beat my Sister a checkers from this point in..my line was.."I told you once you son of a _____, I'm the best there's ever been!" I lost my sister a few years back to breast cancer..man, do I miss picking on her.lol! I saw Charlie and the band in Iraq in 2009. They played outside during a sand storm and said they would keep playing until they ended their set or the sand ruined their equipment so they couldn’t play. They ended up finishing their set while we could barely see them due to the storm. After the show, the band stuck around until every service member got to shake their hands and get a pic. I will remember that day forever.

Back in the 90s Charlie Daniels was playing the Big E in New England. My mom and wife had most of the kids over in the rides area. I had my daughter and we finished all the kiddy rides and she wanted a snack. As we were walking by this big ol RV my daughter saw that the door was open and I guess she thought it was another ride or entrance to something because she bolted inside. I was two steps behind her when I hear this voice coming from inside the RV. He said well hello there little miss. I go up in the RV and sitting there on a couch is Charlie Daniels. I was all apologetic but he was nice as pie. Said don’t worry about it kids are curious creatures. My daughter who is a cautious around strangers as you can wish is sitting next to him as he pulls a soda out of a little fridge and they are sitting there drinking cokes. He’s asking her if she likes the fair and what rides she was on. They say kids know when people are good or bad instinctively. He was awesome with her. Then he asked her what she was looking forward to for the rest of the day. She said she was gonna get some food and watch the guy who sings the devil song and plays the violin. He just laughed and told her to enjoy the show. I thanked him and shook his hand. A gentleman if there ever was one. An hour later we are sitting at a picnic table surrounded by people and my daughter says. Hey dad thats the guy we saw in the big car thing. I said yea thats the guy who sings the devil song. So we watch the concert and we get to the end and he says he wants to dedicate the last song to a little lady he met earlier in the day. It’s a little song about a devil. A memory I know she will never forget.

He would always say, “No matter where you are in the US, one thing you’ll always be able to find is a country music station”. Charlie Daniels passed away the year before before my Daddy did.
