When I was in High School, this song was SUPER popular. At lunch, they used to play the radio in the cafeteria over the loudspeakers, so we often sang along when good ones came on. We loved when this played because when it got to the radio version (I done told you once you son of a gun, I’m the best that’s ever been), we all chanted loudly the REAL lyrics to drown out the “on the radio” version, “I done told you once you son of a bitch, I’m the best that’s ever been!” The teachers used to roll their eyes and shake their heads at us.

Bruh they killed it with this song. When a song is made as thorough and as complete, as this song was, it transcends the lines of musical genres and damn sure holds up against time itself. This has to be one of the greatest songs ever produced.

As the Devil walked away he could still hear it in his heart. Charlie was the best that's ever been But now they had to part..

A 3rd grade student of mine was a heck of a fiddler and we played the Devil Went Down to Georgia" a few times. It took all I had to keep up on my Hummingbird but we did it.
