Pool shot at 24:10 was supposed to be replaced with a close-up by a professional, but Mary Tyler Moore made the trick shot herself (much to her own surprise!)

The fact that she stayed in character and pulled off that scene without breaking is amazing! That takes talent! I would’ve broke character 😅

I'm surprised they both managed to stay in character. You'd have had to scrape me off the ceiling!

@@gamelegend7765 When you capture magic like that, you just gotta roll with it until such a time when you can celebrate They both realized they'd threw a penny and hit the moon with that take so they delayed their reactions (Van Dyke moreso than Tyler Moore) until they cut and then possibly freaked out as to how amazing it was A similar event happened with my friend who was in a stage production of Dracula. There's a scene where he's supposed to break the neck of another character and during rehearsals he never once was able to do it in sync with the sound effect. The night of the show, he nailed it, flawlessly. Worst part was that was in the middle of the show, we had to wait at least an hour and a half before we could celebrate lmao!!

'Is that what you think I'm going to do to you? ... you're right' MTM was a master of comedic timing

The decor in the room is just a bizarre collection of knickknacks. Chest armor, oil can, wooden bucket, rifles. I guess whatever the prop people found at the studio warehouse. That pool shot was pretty spectacular.
