Yes, a lot of mothers do read to their child when their child is young. That's how their child learns to enjoy reading. When my mother was in high school, she was a natural thespian and drama instructor. When she read to me when I was a very young child, she really brought the story to life. That's why I such a strong urge to read to myself a lot when I was 7 years old. Yes, I did a lot of playing too when I was a young girl. I played football with my brothers, I played softball, I went sledding, I played croquet, I climbed trees, I played with my dolls and stuffed animals, I played dress-up, I played school, and I played hide and seek with my brother and the neighborhood kids. It's extremely important for a child to learn to read to himself or herself early in life and to get plenty of exercise. They'll be a lot healthier both mentally and physically if they do. I meant to say "Yes, a lot of mothers do read to their children when their children are young. That's how their children learn to enjoy reading to themselves."

@@MrMenefrego1 Mobile phones did not exist. For entertainment, apart from TV sets, you had to go out. Work from home was not a concept, neither was online shopping. If you wanted to make a call, you had to dial the telephone, instead of sitting anyplace and calling. If you were not at a place with a telephone you had to run to the phone booth. And since each call cost an amount, it was preferable to go and speak personally. Just a few examples.

It was a COMEDY. Back in the 1950s and 60s, it was illegal to do product placement, so real names of real things couldn't be used within the tv shows. The names would be close enough to get the reference across without breaking the law and using real names.
