One of my all-time favorite character actress is Amzie Strickland. (aunt Mildred). Between all her appearances on the Dick Van Dyke show and the Andy Griffith show as different people she was probably working full-time back then. She was also the little old lady in pretty woman who asked Julia Roberts, how she liked the opera. Years ago, I worked at a store, where I had a coworker, who was also a part-time character actor, who told me that she was extremely well respected by all the big stars and producers. Not a particularly pretty woman, but I just love her.

I've always wondered why Sallie Jones (seen at ~11:00) didn't become a huge movie star. She played the part of a ditzy blond so well!

Wrong time span. By the mid-1960s the ditzy blonde bombshell had already been overused.

@@worldinsights930 So, "by the mid-1960s the ditzy blonde" was a thing of the past;? They still perpetuate that stereotype today; But only in one or two productions, Like 1. That would not work with a roast. She might have to cook it for over an hour then rest it for another 30 minutes. She would pick something like that to cook then yell at Rob.

Of course it's comedy, not real, but it features very real actors and actresses. The very best in the industry. RIP to all the cast members, who all lived very long lives, especially Dick Van Dyke who just celebrated his 97th birthday. And that's all I have to say about that lol

Brain injuries can be seriously deadly. Hard to laugh at.
@jb6712 Жыл бұрын
As one who worked in the ICU of our city's hospital (a large regional trauma center), I know that one well....but hardly think the script writers were thinking along the lines of brain injuries back in the 1960s. Such things haven't been focused on until the late 20th and the 21st century, really. Just chill, for pity's sake.

Just remember that it's the script writers and Carl Reiner who came up with, then approved, the scripts. The actors didn't get much say, if any, back then, not even DVD and MTM.
