She never looked beautiful. That was the point as with Millie. They were to make Laura look even more beautiful by comparison which wasn’t necessary ss Mary was probably the most beautiful to ever be on television.

According to my calculations, Denver Pyle, who plays Uncle George here, was about 42 years of age when he did this program. Amazing. He is playing a character who is supposed to be in his 60s or 70s, and doing it quite well!
@jb6712 Жыл бұрын
He was born May 11, 1920, so you're probably correct---somewhere around 42 or 43---but he went white haired very early on. I knew a man a long time ago who was white haired by the time he was 29, so it does happen...

Wow! I looked up Denver Pyle (Uncle George) and he was born on May 11, 1920 which makes him only in his 40's when he was in the Dick Van Dyke show and The Andy Griffith show (where he played Briscoe Darling the mountain man) I wonder if he just looked older or they put makeup and he played an older man so well that it was easy to fool the audience. Cause I would have easily guessed he was a 60 year old man. Talk about good acting lol 😄
@jb6712 Жыл бұрын
Both; he went white haired at a rather young age, so putting the makeup on to "age" him was easy, seeing that they didn't have to do a thing with his hair.

Sally was simply born in the wrong era. Men didn't want aggressive, strong women to marry. They much preferred someone like Laura. Not saying that was fair, but I think it was the reality back then. That being said, I also think that she was awfully picky considering how very few men were even willing to date her. Even Buddy had pointed that out to her at one point.

I remember watching this episode many years ago and Rob ( Dick van Dyke) began the episode with his wedding ring on. When he drags Uncle George in to the kitchen to talk to him, Rob tugs at his wedding ring and slips it off, He nervously puts it in his pant pocket and the rest of the episode, he is without his ring. Many years later on this KZbin channel, the ring is not there the whole episode. One can see him 'scratching' his ring finger during his discussion with Uncle George like he is slipping it off. I have a thing with details!

I used to be friends with a very wimpy man who thought as Herman Glimpshire did about his Mommy. She didn't feel that way, she didn't act like the old bat in this show---Mary (my former friend's mother) was a tough, independent woman who worked hard all her life---but Son was ridiculously whiny and wimpy. You know what is absolutely amazing is not just how beautiful MTM is in every episode, she is just magnetic but that midcentury modern fashions that MTM wears can still be worn today. That period of very simplistic modern style has become classic...timeless. Look closely at the Petrie house. because your going to see 4 things that were just coming into fashion. 1) The kitchen island. 2) The breakfast bar. 3) the great room where the living room and dining room are combined into one room. 4) Sliding Patio Doors. Not a fan of Denver Pyle and that uncouth rough loud country persona. Not a personality that was exposed to on either side of my family or my friends...so it seems very alien to me...whereas...someone who has been around that kind of personality is probably used to it. I guess its like Jews who are condescending and sarcastic and insulting....gentiles notice it...but other jews dont.
