In this episode, Teal Swan clears up the confusion around compromise and workability. She explains why compromise is detrimental to your well-being and your relationship, and why workability is essential for harmony, mutual satisfaction, and success.
She also gives you some practical tips on how to be workable without compromising yourself, and how to deal with unworkability on the other side. If you want to learn how to avoid compromise and create workability in your relationships, this episode is for you!
Listen Out For:
- Compromise is giving up something that you value and it causes pain and disharmony
- Workability is finding a solution that meets both your and your partner’s needs and desires
- Workability is based on communication, mutual respect, and willingness to work together
- Workability should be about the smaller things that don’t conflict with your values
- Workability preserves your values, enhances your life, and strengthens your relationships

”For a relationship to be harmonious, mutually pleasing and successful, we need to be workable. When something is workable, it is flexible, negotiable, pliable and adaptable. It can be influenced, molded or changed so that it produces the desired effect or the desired results. When a person is being workable, they are settling a dispute/conflict or reaching agreement/alignment by way of flexibility by adaptability. By finding a win-win. Or by letting the other person have their way because doing so does not conflict with something they deeply value”. Teal Swan. Thank you Teal 🌎💕🕊🥰

Sure the idea that we don't need to 'win' an argument like children, but should conversate like adults is good, but not revolutionary. As I said the way this woman brings across some points can be harmfull, even if some truth seems to be within. For example predetory people that have an advantage on the other person if this way of thinking is conditioned in them. I hope that explains what I mean

I have never been in a relationship because whenever someone approaches me with romantic intentions, and I ask them what our theoretical relationship would look like, there is always an element of compromise that I, alone, am expected to make. I will love and support someone from a thousand miles away if they are strong enough to not compromise their vision or mine. But few people can understand this. People expect such a life to be lonely and unfulfilled, but honestly, my life keeps getting better and better. I get many remarks on how mature and sure of myself I am for someone my age.

@@madeOfStone319 That, I don't know. What I do know is just as there are mature non-parents, there are also immature parents. Maturity cannot be measured by the types of relationships a person has, but by how they navigate them. You simply have to learn about the individual to know.

There are soooo many layers to this. My ex had gaslighted me into believing that he was being workable with me so that he gets an ego boost about how good a partner he is, he "allows" his girl to have "rights" over him. Compromise and workability are two different things, now layer gaslighting done with lots of "love" on top of it. Also I feel most Indian men expect their female partner to always FREELY compromise or get workable real quick, and then get another ego boost out of it like "of course she'll do it coz she's my slave, she loves me!" so any genuine compromise or workability work i had done was seen as "woohoo" "she's bent herself even more for me" (and lowered her value by her own self) when in reality I have actually done the work to make something workable for both of us AND ME. When other person cant even see what level of work their partner has done, all of this directly goes out the window and i dont know how many Indian men train themselves to do any of this work, coz they have never done anything!

Indian men are notoriously bad when it comes to this, I agree.. I feel even with Indian male friends I am always sidelined and expected to defer all decisions to them.. even something as innocuous as ordering a tea with my meal and being told not to.. to order it after my meal.. like hello, I want it now! Who are you to tell me when I should order my sad little herbal tea?! How is this decision affecting you?!

Boyzone - Everyday I Love you, this song just relaxes me and completely, immediately calms me. Listening to it now. :) My emotionality and mental state is often like a train wreck. I long to find myself a soothing, nurturing, loving and lovely girlfriend, for myself, who is proud of me, proud to have me, and proud to be with me publicly, would forget the world and I become Her World, someone who just knows me to the max, when my soul is hurting to the core, without me having to say a word. Someone who would defend me. Someone who will never betray me or use me. Who would stand by me as I build myself up for my dreams - and not get in the way, so in the end, I can turn it around and give it all to my Wonderful Lady and absolutely nothing goes to my family. Everything for my Soul-Tribe family. My blood family permanently means nothing to me. I long to find myself a sweet partner like this. No one conniving, indecent, unkind. And I will be the loveliest boyfriend ever. I will never be abusive to my girlfriend, never treat her poorly out of nowhere, always will take care of her in the ways I can (I am short in height, so can't do many things Conor Mcgregor can easily). But I will be the most gentle, loving, devoted and respectful boyfriend. I am a gentle soul. A sweet soul, who often experiences critical suicidal ideation, because I will permanently feel as if I don't belong in this world (people like I) and that this world is always for Other People and Other People's Love Stories and Other People Other People Other People, always. I will always feel inadequate and worthless, not clever enough, always a bit dumb, and as my Lifetime has reminded me, I am ''not a human being with human rights'' -- My mother's words. Hopefully now, I hope you can understand me a bit better.

What to do when the other person can't see, that "a little thing" is a big thing for you. You are not workable, but it is not accepted. I think that is hard, but maybe a beutiful gift that teaches me to accept and respect my own boundaries for the sake of truth and love, in the longer run ❤

Hi Teal. This comment has nothing to do with this video. I just picked up the last posted video that has the most chance of you reading it. I found your channel in november 2019. Since then i started the long journey of working on my self. I got your book how to love your self. I did all the work as i knew best. And now after 4 years i am still stuck. Something i do is wrong and i dont know what. You said suicide is the worst self hate it can get. For me i have no view for this toxic society, i have no hope for mankind, no purpose like the "drones" that wake every morning to get to the job and get paid at the end of the mounth. Is this still self hate? Ofcourse my mindset is more then that but for this comment i am simply askeing if you personally can find the time to speak with me one on one. THANK YOU

What if it's impossible or extremely unlikely that you'll ever find someone who meets most of your needs and desires in a relationship? And yet you really don't want to end up alone? In that case should we not learn to switch off some of those needs and settle for a bit less? Aka is it possible that some people are so emotionally messed up and have too many complex needs that they actually do need to compromise?

I am facing this exact question now after meeting different guys through my life. I am now 40 and none of them seem like anyone I want or feel connected to. Until last month i met the perfect man for me! Unbelievable deep connection, chemistry, values, compatability, personality, and then he was GONE! soon as I realized he would be so compatible for me! He ended up ghosting me. Now I am thinking indont want to be alone but also I dont think I can settle. I might have to be alone.😢

And I have experienced that for several years. But then I met a man, and I just never had felt happier than that. Im just at q point in my life where I desire a partner. I've been 12 years single not allowing any men into my life deliberatly , so I accomplished the work in myself that I needed. But I guess not enough?

Add more friends to your life that meet different needs. That would take the strain off your primary relationship and allow them to show up fully for the things they can and want to do for you. My EX wanted me to meet all or damn near all of her needs and I told her time and time again, I cannot and do not want to do it all. I wanted her to have friends and she would fight me and say you have to do it needless to say, it ended badly. But I learned a valuable lesson. I hope that helps.

Okay but sometimes compromise is required for a relationship to succeed. I personally have an anxiety response where I pick my scalp obsessively, and my most recent ex was bothered by it. So even though this anxiety response is my truth right now, it is arguably detrimental to me and to my relationship with her. She didn't let me fix it and reprogram my brain and sabotaged all the progress I would make, but that's only one reason why she's now an ex. Just because you value something and just because it's your truth, doesn't mean it's good or healthy and should be enabled to continue.

Yes. Should is a control word. You trying to control you. Should is the equivalent of rubbing a puppies nose in poop to train them. It doesn’t work. When you Should on your Self it is the equivalent of you rubbing your nose in your own poop and when we should on others it is the equivalent of taking a poop and rubbing someone else's face in your poop and expecting them to make better choices. Can you learn this way? I would be confused AF if someone did that to me. This happens from the time we are born. Not to mention should is a narrow minded view. Only one right way is the purpose of should. Control, is not connection. And connection is our collective biggest need.

There is never a 100 percent accurate answer to boundries because boundries are individual, no matter the definition of compromising... for example when you go through rehab it is very uncomfortable to do so, but it is necessery to get better. It is NEVER nessecery to do something another person find's to be better. This woman is not a professional and people like this can do a lot of harm by giving people the wrong ideas. Compromisses are needed in every realationship, but what this lady is promoting is straight up unhealthy, even though SOME truth is being said. Be carefull to listen to people you don't know.
