A quick video explaining the difference between Irish and Scottish clan succession laws, this subject does have multiple layers to it and this is merely a brief introduction to it almost a beginners guide, just not as well laid out, This was only my second video so i apolgise for most of it but i never expected this to reach the level it has, i will do a video breaking the subject down further.

@@joegrande4848 Actually if you were born in America, you would be of American heritage, not Irish, ancestry isn't technically heritage because heritage is something you gain either from your birth, or something that is bestowed upon you once a certain age is reached. 'Heritage' is an etymological cognate of 'Inherit' and 'Inheritance', which just means what you 'Inherit', like your American native nationality and US citizenship, as well as your Yank Doodle ethnicity (cultural upbringing) which is ultimately inherited from your American nationality.

They all started off the same way, but later especially in Scotland Norman primogeniture replaced tanistry so today in Scotland the Chief always becomes the Chief by Norman primogeniture unless the line has become extinguished then someone of the Clan who is recognised as the head of the head of the clan could later be recognised as Chief by Lord Lion. Also this video does not realise that Brehon law was in Scotland in ancient times too.

There is no such thing as 'Scots-Irish', this is a made up Americanism that doesn't exist anywhere in either the Kingdom of Scotland or the EU province of Rep.Ireland. The whole clan phenomenon isn't really an Irish thing either, in fact it isn't even a Scottish national thing either as it was historically a Norse thing. Most of the actual Scots lived in the East Coast in fact than the West. Most Americans who had ancestors from the UK were actually Border reavers who were neither Scottish nor English, they didn't consider themselves either nationality, they identified with clan names more than they did with nationalities/ethnicities, much like their modern day distant mixed descended Yankee fake plastic paddies and American styro fake Scots from America do today who don't like to think of themselves as American either, even though their immediate and most related ancestors were Yankee cowboy outlaws and cattle rustlers etc and their people - Yanks, are a distinct northern American tribe of people that have been around since as early as 1492, the medieval age. Meaning that most modern Americans, as well as being largely the most mixed people on earth today and being American by native nationality and American by ethnicity, are actually descended from stateless criminals who weren't considered Scottish or even English back then and infact were even actually old enemies of both the Scottish and the English and would actually even attack both Scots and English crossing the borderlands adjacent to the Debatable lands that neither the Kingdoms of Scotland or England had jurisdiction over. As such, the debatable lands was rife with crime such as arson, murder and robbery etc, they were eventually gotten rid of and conquered by the Kingdom of Scotland when James VI of Scots took over the English throne in 1603, giving him complete control over both sides of the Reiver populated Debatable adjacent lands which were in the middle in between both the Kingdoms of Scotland and England, and were first either executed for serious crimes or deported as stateless criminals to Ulster in Northern Ireland. But this managed to work out that way because under James VI of Scots, he now had jurisdiction in Ireland also because Ireland had been a part of the Kingdom of England since the Laudibiliter Papal Bull was arranged between Pope Adrian IV and Henry II of England which was after Dermod MacMurrough - the Hiberni (Irish) King of Leinster asked for English help in getting his lands back from other rival petty Hiberni/Irish Kingdoms, and Henry II lent him English troops which solidified English intervention there in the South of Ireland amongst the Hiberni (the real Irish of that time) to initially keep the peace. So when James VI of Scots took the English throne as well, this gave him power over Ireland as well as England, because Ireland was a Papal possession under the Kingdom of England.

@@RR-pe5or there is no kingdom of Scotland to be honest there ran completely from old English torys. Scotland haven't even been a state since 1707 its essentially ran by unelected englishmen while most of ireland is independent (it all should have been independent because of the 1918 election) which the brits met with violence Ireland was colonised and subjected to brutal british rule for centuries and relegated as second class citizens in there own country by unelected old men in Britain They held an election where 76% of the population voted for independence in 1918 and where still not granted independence and Britain backed the loyalist minority (who were maybe 20%) with guns weapons and so on So the irish people had a right to fight for there independence by any means necessary because they had a democratic mandate by the irish people and were not granted there democratic rights which over 76% voted for in a democratic election that's it!!!!

The clan system in Ireland clearly predates the Norse invasion as does Brehon Law. The Annals of Ulster record indisputable proof of both predating any Viking influence in Ireland. Therefore the clan system in Ireland is undoubtedly Gaelic in origin and, as a result, the Scottic clan system in Scotland will also be predominantly Gaelic in origin as the Gaelic colonisation of Scotland also predates any Norse influence. @@RR-pe5or

@@Clans_Dynasties It was a typo sorry MacPhaidin which subsequently became McFadden in Ireland .There is a lot of confusion as regards the name McFadden which I think is mostly due in part to the fact Historians in Scotland don’t tend to go back far enough on Mull In regard the McLeans who were granted the land post Wars of Independence. The old History is written by the victors applied here I should imagine. The McFaddens were politically aligned to the McDougal clan and were subsequently on the wrong side of the argument of who had the claim to the throne. As a result of losing the claim our Clan were stripped of their Land and found themselves homeless for a period but being Gallowglass soon found a new home in Ireland. If you wanna see clan systems in action today, check out Somali clans, these are more ancient than irish or Scottish clans, and are strictly based on paternal descent, we also have Xeer (anglicised as Heer law of Somalis), a customary legal system that is based on social insurance for all lineages of the clans

Hi, It was really interesting, including as a historian by education, with absolutely respect to Celtic peoples, countries, cultures, from Southeastern European country, Caucasus Iberia- Georgia, by Black Sea. Ireland, Scotland are such beautiful countries. Also, just in case, there are 3 Iberia in Europe, Spanish Iberia, or Iberian Peninsula, Irish Iberia and Georgian Iberia in Caucasus. Also, just in case, connection with all this, I will note some details about the manifestation in different forms, historical ties, and specifically Georgians in Caucasus, Etruscans in Italy, Corsicans in Corsica, Picts in Britain, Spanish Iberians in Spain and other Iberian, Ibero/ Celtic peoples have same ethno, ethnic origin and represent Iberian race, Iberian, Ibero/ Celtic peoples of Europe and this is why all these listed peoples ( together with originality of each of these ethno, ethnic peoples) have similarities, identical in different forms of culture, in folk music, dance, in ancient architectural style and so on. Also Georgians cultures of different historical times are European ( together with their own culture/ cultures, influences with different European cultures, beginning from ancient times, influences with ancient Greek civilizations, cultures, with Roman cultures, later with Byzantine/East Roman culture, with Catholic Europe and other European cultures during all historical periods in history of Georgians, Georgia, subsequently, among other European cultures, having the closest relationship also with Russian culture ) and of course, all these things proven historically/scientifically by World's, European ( including Georgian) historians/scientists, and this is why Georgians ( Georgia's) European/Western way is absolutely naturally and historically right way to returning to their European roots, which means their true Georgians roots in this South- Eastern, Caucasus region of Europe, where Georgia itself is located and this is how vast majority of Georgians consider themselves and their country. Just in case, about the ethnic appearance of Georgians, here are some examples: pin.it/1DrndwF pin.it/7HDlbqr pin.it/Y7XZpbu pin.it/1DvQMoo pin.it/5Qvb8zN pin.it/3akg9wv pin.it/7oZQbO4 pin.it/60iJuUt pin.it/5Ne6tWN In addition, I note that Georgians, like Corsicans, Picts, Etruscans, Spanish Iberians and other peoples belong to the Iberian race, the Iberian peoples of Europe and have a kinship etno relationship to Celts through those peoples who have both Iberian and Celtic ethno origin, these last, such peoples live in a certain part of Spain, Britain, Scotland and so on., and there is also a historical opinion that a certain part of the Celts was also mixed with the West Georgian ethnic peoples in their time. From all that has been said, Georgians also have an ethno-cultural attitude towards the Celts in a certain way, which also manifests itself in certain Georgian folk songs, melodies, in dances, for example, the dance "Khorumi" and so on, also proven by archaeological / cultural data. There are also 3 Iberia, Spanish Iberia, Georgian Iberia and Irish Iberia, etc. It is through these mentioned factors that Georgians also have an ethnically related relationship with the Celts. Sincerely, Alex.

@@Clans_Dynasties Thank you very much for your interest, also about the Georgian royal dynasty Bagration, just in case, I note that Georgian Bagrations, the Georgian royal dynasty of Bagration, originate from one of the most ancient regions of Georgia - Speri. Based on Georgian historical written sources in Georgian historiography, it is assumed that this family was headed by a feudal bivitrimen family. Everything else is absolutely groundless speculation and legends, artificially created some false ideas of the time, including the false idea that the Bagrations are descendants of the biblical character of David, the Jewish royal dynasty. These invented, historical absolute false ideas, legends, were accepted by representatives of the royal Bagrationi dynasty, because of ideological considerations in those times, that because of their connection with the biblical king David, to prove their divine origin amongst the people and so on and so forth. This was often in vogue, starting before B.C times Pro-Christian times, then the royal rulers of one kingdom or of an empire were descendants of a solar deity, and later descendants of a solar deity turned into descendants of a divine dynasty of the biblical king David and so on and so forth similar invented false notions. It’s just still not makes sense, why all these fictitious ideas were necessary for some representatives of Bagration, when Georgia itself and the Georgian people had such an ancient and self-sufficient Colkhian / Iberian / European culture and the history of the ancient Georgian royal dynasties. At some point here sucsome members of Bagrationi lost their connection with the history of their own country and people. But at the same time, of course, we remember the great representatives of the Georgian Bagrations, like King Bagrati the third, David the fourth "Builder", Queen Tamara and others.

@ak11472 3 жыл бұрын
@@Clans_Dynasties For example, during the time of Queen Tamara, in addition to everything, well-known Georgian figures/ feudal lords already demanded a constitutional, monarchical-parliamentary structure Kingdom of Georgia. From King David the "Builder" to King Lasha-Giorgi (the son of Queen Tamara) there was a "golden age" for Georgians, Georgia, besides this, in Georgia also during these times the Renaissance developed and so on, as it happened in other European countries, but after this historical period, unfortunately Georgia was not lucky, at the beginning of the invasion of the Mongol Empire, and then, after the fall of the Eastern Roman / Byzantine Empire (which also represented a geopolitical catastrophe for Georgians, Georgia) invasions from the west of the Ottoman Empire, and from the east of the Persian Empire, also there was no single royal rule in Georgia and so on in those dark, tragic historical periods. @@Dreyno kinda how I feel, it all began when the yank saw our family Crest in the genealogical museum (ironically it was donated from my late grandfathers estate when his house was broken up, certain antiques and important historical bits went to various museums throughout Ireland) well this American approached the armourer and purchased the "right" to be identified as chief of the name! I guess I can accept it if that is just a modern technical title, but it's galling to think he may have actually thought that a couple of £££ punts made him an actual "cheif" or indeed that the armourer (some random person) had any authority in my household to distribute "titles" without our permission! On the other hand, if the yanks keep it in perspective, and it brings people happiness and community (as long as they don't too deeply indulge any delusions of grandeur) then I'm happy for them! I think the original yank has now passed on to a son or grandson who styles himself "prince"! Whatever.

As a Somali Cushite with even more clans based on strict paternal lineage than Scots and Irish people, I'm disappointed that the gaelic and Welsh people were so weak as to be conquered repetitively and constantly by the English immigrants

@@tractorbois5743 I do, and sadly, its appealing, how the angles and saxons as immigrants uprooted the native gaelic people, pushing you out of modern England and even invading and conquering you, Ireland was directly under the English for nearly 1000 years or even longer, Scotland briefly gained their independence but only after centuries of English rule To this day why is Irish territory part of thr UK? Didn't Ireland itself only get independence recently, pathetic Also, wasnt the Irish potato famine deliberately caused due to the English hoarding all the produce ? How many died due to this ? What about the Highland persecution of Scottish clans to force them to forget their language and culture ? Its sad how most Scottish, and all Irish, today, speak English as their only language Wow, imagine after more than 1000 years of oppression, adopting the language of your oppressors, you guys are like the congoid people of Europe
