I believe the extractors are different on the 2A and 2A1 compared to the No1 Mk3. I've also heard that a stronger steel was used to make the receiver and bolt parts to handle the increased pressure of 7.62x51 NATO

Just picked up a 2A1 and immediately came back to your channel to see if you had any experiance with them. Its in really good shape and was a really good price so I'm excited to shoot it.

I have a 1965 2A so one of the last before they switched to the 2A1 numbers match. Only problem I have is the mag is kinda loose, sometimes when I'm chambering a new round the bullet gets jammed under the feed ramp have to give the mag a little slap to get it back in place.

Glad to see a video out there like this. I think these are excellent rifles and have one of each along with their 303 Caliber counterparts

I have the marketed Jungle Carbine version of the 2A. Great truck gun. The longest I fired it was 300 yds. It was a bit better than 4MOA. The flash hider is a plus. I am considering adding an aperture rear sight for these old eyes.

Excellent video as usual, Mike. I just received a 2A1 and am in the process of getting her cleaned up to go to the range. I initially had a little (intermittent) ejection issue - fooled around with the magazine lips and I do believe I have solved the issue. Thanks!

I.absolutely had difficulty with ejection and feed with my Ishapore until I tuned the feed lips. I got my 2A at a yard sale for $300 and if I would have known how much I was going to love it I would have been willing to pay a lot more rather than going on not having one.

The action body and bolt in the 2A and 2A1 were made from a much stronger steel than the old Mk. III*. Lithgow attempted to convert SMLE’s to 7.62, with somewhat disappointing results. Even after reinforcing the action body, they flexed too much and failed. Ishapore probably knew of these experiments, so went with better steel and new production from the start. Replacing the 2A bolt with one from a .303 would probably be unwise…. For that matter, Lee bolts are generally NOT interchangeable, at the best of times. You can often find one to fit if you have several to choose from, but most of the time, you end up with only the long rib bearing, and the small lug not doing anything. This isn’t usually dangerous, but over time the uneven locking will cause problems. In very rare circumstances, only the small lug will bear, leaving a gap between the rib and its shoulder. THIS is the worst scenario, as it will often result in the bolthead shearing off, with possible injury to the shooter. In short, DON’T swap bolts in Lee Enfields.

There is information indicating that the sights work fine between 303 and 7.62 if you just use metres instead of yards. Acceptance standards differed from what was actually achieved in practice. 2.5MOA was fairly common with the Mk4 which is actually limited by the quality of the ammunition not the rifle.

Might want to flip the "hooks" on the sling to face the outside. I shot my SMLE on a bench with the hooks the same way as yours and over the course of 20 rounds, I managed to scratch up the wood forestock. Turns out the flat riveted side should face the stock, and the hooks should face outside.

@DevinK 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s a lot easier to adjust this way I’m just aware when I set it on a bench that it can do that and I just adjust the sling accordingly

I don't suppose you guys would know the barrel to receiver thread pitch between those two rifles? Looking to get mine rebarreled and I'm hesitant.

I had one made in 1967, the wood was warped to the right at the last 10 inches of the foregrip. It caused the rifle to hit rt of center. I am going to try another.

Have you considered changing out the wood with ananother stock? I have relieved wood pressure points but exchanging the wood is easier.

Mine ejects fine. I've only put 40 rounds through it (new to me). I do have issues chamering the last round. The angle seems to be too steep. I'm going to stretch the spring a bit.
