There was a point where mtn and Montana cans would not allow shops to sell both paints, so the graffiti shop in my town had to make a completely new shop in the back just to get spanish to send them theyer paint, i was under the impression they were the same company until a falling out which led them to split

I know this vid is ancient, but I recently found some old MtN hardcore cans at a small art store. Some of the cans have an extra label placed on the can that says “Montana gold.” Just a gold foil sticker in the middle of the pre existing MTN label. I’m unsure if this had to do with licensing at the time or what.

Taras Bulba depends on how well you do it haha, “professional” people use spray guns instead of cans but if you’re good with a can you could probably do it really well

@@tarasbulba7114 oven only dries it faster. The type of paint will give you more durability. Spray cans will be less durable than sprayed car paint. One is cheaper and easier and the other needs more expensive equipment and is more expensive as well. There is no difference in a good looking job as long as you have the talent to apply the paint. Both can look good and both methods can look bad depending on the skill of the painter.

Even if other companies would like to formulate and create their own brand, what is wrong on The German side is naming itself Montana plus the rumor of create fake cans of the Hardcore brand. But on the other hand, the quality of Montana Cans really improved and is one of the best spraypaint brands out there for graffiti and urban art.

flip1sba because the German side has no right to take the name as it’s a completely different company, they think they’re allowed to use the name since they’ve been distributing it or something to that extent from what I can remember.

Chris Cork as in the formula? That’s asking how long a piece of string it, both brands have several different lines of paint such as black and 94, which are completely different and are for completely different purposes

Thanks for reply. Not a graff artist but I own a print shop and spray the edges of business cards to give them colour edges. I've been using Liquitex water based but find that the blues (especially cobalt) come out too thick so trying to find an alternative that sprays a bit lighter/thinner. Don't want to buy a different brand that comes from the same factory so trying to figure out what's what. Just ordered some MTN to try. What do you find is the smoothest/lightest pressure Acrylic water based spray? Sorry for all the Q's and I know it's quite random. If you go on Mangoprint Instagram you will see the cards we do and what I'm talking about :) I was mixing the paints manually but have switched to cans for convenience and time saving. Thanks again!

Chris Cork to be honest If you’re using them in a workshop I would stick to water based, mtn and molotow do their own water based spray line (think mtn was the first one to do it) but I think they’re more expensive then typical paint. In regards to coming from the same factory you just need to think about where the brand has been established, for example MTN is the original graffiti spray paint, they’ll have their own factory, montana cans being their rival will also, I presume molotow have their own factory because a lot of their products are authentic, ironlak is Australian paint and used to use Chinese factories, however nowadays I’m not so sure, it’s mainly the smaller, cheaper brands you need to worry about, dope, kobra, loop, maybe some others possibly

Theres two graff shops in my city one sells ironlak, mtn and molotow the other sells ironlak and montana. So if i want montana or the other shop runs out of paint which does happen i have to travel across town

Idk man, beltons are great and the german montanas are fine but i always find myself coming back to 94 its just so smooth and every color is consistent albeit sometimes their lighter yellows can be testy but thats the nature of yellow. Plus, if the hip hop community is so “real” why do you support a company that blatantly stole the name of their competition? Lame as fuck thats why i hate that hip hop is always associated with graffiti like yeah in the 80s sure but graff has been around long before hip hop so stall that shit out.

In the graffiti doc "Infamy", the graf artist Jase has a part in it were he talks about starting a new, graffiti centered, spray paint company called Montana. Maybe he's one of the characters involved in all of this but it doesn't sound like it.

@@catagoncatagon3649 I strongly disagree dude. I've used both a lot and I choose MTN every day over the German copy. Last time I used some Montana Black was few months ago, shades "Punk" and "Freak" had unbelievably shitty coverage for being high end paints. With MTN even yellow shades cover the best black on the market (Nitro 2G) with no problems.
