Hub based power meters are not that rare. They might not be produced currently but there are a lot of them out there. Individual leg power does not really matter at all. However, doubling one leg when the leg being measured is stronger or weaker than the other leg leads to bad data. If this is your only power meter, no problem. However if you have other meters, it leads you to wonder what is correct.

My foreunner 245 watch doesn't support 4iiii power meter, I had to use extra app which doesn't really produces garmin power curve.
