I started watching when it was airing, but I dropped after episode 3, I think, when Omegamon showed up. They didn't even explain what evolution is and they're already dropping the highest level there is!? And a variation of evolution in the form of Joggress Shinka at that!? That's when I realized this series didn't have the proper care or planning and just wanted to dive straight into the cool action scenes instead of telling a proper story. Seems like I wasn't wrong.

The original Digimon Adventure had impeccable pacing when it came to introducing the concept of evolution and even introduced religious symbolism to unlock Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon to fight against the literal devil, eventually culminating in what is basically the Jesus Digimon by fusing the two into Omegamon so they could destroy DIABOLOMON! It doesn't matter what alternative form they give the two, it will never be the same.

My problems were. They don't feel like friends or family, they don't interact with each other at all, in real life we were social distancing, and they did the same in the show. The cast was useless, it hurts me to say, but i would have cut Sora, she did nothing, she was useless. And Matt and Joe too. I would have cut them too if i was in charge. But Matt is half of omegamon... The kids were fighting all the time, like they didn't have any time to relax, they defeated on guy and immediately had to fight the next guy, like with nidhoggmon, if you look at it, they fought at least 24 hours straight in universe? They did not explain anything, what were the angels? The crests?? They didn't name what they meant at all, i don't even think they explained what faga was? I still don't know what that means? And if i don't know anything, why should I care? I think COVID had something to do with it, but looks like they didn't had a plan at all sometimes

Hands down Toei's worst anime since Sailor Moon Crystal. I can't fathom how anyone would even have given this tedious trainwreck the time of day it they didn't have the original show to draw from in order to subconsciously fill in all the substance for it. I've read bad fanfiction better written than this. The amount of times they milked the 'never give up' trope for freebie powerups bordered on self-parodic. It also effectively made me sick of both Taichi and Wargreymon from how much smoke got blown up their backsides.

I agree with everything. Even if I don't think the series is really bad. Is well made and entertenning at least. But is just a hollow shell of the original. There is not much else to say besides what you said about Mimi. They all look like how they should be in the end. There is almost no conflict. And things that give so much character are also gone. One scene that always stuck with me was when Yamato gets into his apartment (a very crappy one btw) and his drunk father is sleeping in the kitchen table. In contrast to Takeru that lives in a nice house. Also there is that thing that in japan only more wealthy people live in houses and the digimon adventures protagonists most of them lived in apartments. Thats made them very close to real childre and they changed it in 2020 for a more anime like house. And even been so empty the series managed to have more episodes than the original. Its was a very underhelming experience. I believe they wanted to capitalize with the nostalgia and thats why everything looked like a idealized version so older fans would feel in home and give the aval for the new fans to watch. But they got it so wrong and just made the oposite of what it should have been.

I also have to wholeheartedly agree with this because at first I throughly liked it when it was currently airing back in 2020 but looking back at it, it feels like a pizza without its toppings and aside from Mimi, there’s almost no real conflict whatsoever alongside the fact the things that give so much character feels erased and the screentime feels one-sided at times with way too much “Taichi”; It feels very aggravating and perplexing if the show’s demographic was for younger audiences or older viewers; either way you’re not going doing an great job and sure Digimon Ghost Game might have some issues with the pacing; it’s still my favorite Digimon series because regardless if you like it or not; the story heavily revolves around Gammamon as evidenced by the title logo (Which I really love btw!!!) and being a mystery/horror anthology series; I can tell that they’re making Gammamon’s story secretive as possible because while I don’t like the fact to focus on a plot at the last minute because a rushed ending would normally botch a series but the fact I had tons of fun with Digimon Ghost Game feels very refreshing despite the finale being rushed to an extent!!! (Wouldn’t be a bad idea to have Corey (TheDigiknow) on and seeing what how he views it!!!) ❤️💛 #digimon

Adventure 2020 was the first (and, for now, the only) to have full evolution sequences only for Agumon and Gabumon. Characters are empty shells, although Mimi was the best, but Koshiro is just illogical - he's 9 and he can hack everything he wants. Leomon survives and the final battle wasn't so epic and dramatic, at least for me. Digital world wasn't destroyed and everything come back to normal just like that. Taichi was eaten by Done Devimon, Agumon dark evolved and in next episode they're completely fine. Taichi single-handedly defeated Zeed Millenniummon was huge disappointment.

For me Digimon Adventure 2020 was my happiness in the hard year with the pandemic. I loved the show! I know the show is criticized because of the non stop fighting and lack of development of the Digidestined. I liked how the Digital world had 20 years of development in comparison to the original series being the series in its very early days.

This was frustrating as fuck to watch. The first arc was incredible, and was clearly inspired by Our War Game. Koushiro was more or less the second most important character, and the tone was absolutely sublime. It wasn't kiddy, it wasn't goofy, but it also didnt fall into the dreariness tri fell into. it threaded the needle perfectly for an all-ages affair. That never really goes away, but as soon as we got into the digital world, something stank. When Togemon debuted though, the mask came off. Not only was the transformation sequence way cheaper looking, Greymon fucking killsteals her in her own episode. And it only got worse from there.

It does feel like the hiatus in production that they had during covid must have wrecked their production organisation. there was a bunch of episodes that feel like they could have fit in the early arcs that ended up taking place as fluff near the end. Have to imagine some stuff got left on the cutting room floor

Something that I think could have helped the reboot (besides not heaping so much focus onto Tai), was splitting up the kids more. Like we saw a few times in the original show, but keep them apart in small groups for a good 12-13 episodes. For example the teams could be: Tai (since Izzy and Mimi play off Tai well since he can be a hardhead, Izzy is the brains, and Mimi is the social one - Kari not being present could give Tai angst that causes the group to clash) Izzy Mimi Matt (since they had a thing on 02 that was hinted at in the 1999 series, and Matt being separated from T.K can lead to drama) Sora Joe (since he's the reliable one, and having to watch over the younger kids would force him to step up - while T.K and Kari can gradually grow out of the shadows of their older brothers) Kari T.K That way they could divide the focus more evenly by not having everyone present most of the time, and whichever group we're with for the episode of the week, can get more shine. Then bring everyone together halfway through the season for a big mid-season fight. Then get into the wider story and scope of what's going on.

I heard the head of the digimon adventure series left after metal greymon was introduced to work on ghost game. Which would explain why the quality dropped afterwards and tai was forced everywhere. It would also explain why the ending felt weird. One of the most powerful digimon in the series is Zeed Milleniumon a being that exists in every reality at the same time and is born in all of them at the same time; a creature that is very hard to kill and seal with the digimon website. Yet is killed by wargreymon and some angels somehow and the "real" bad guy was a new digimon that was "inspired by a villian in full metal alchemist" called eyesmon. Now this part is just speculation but, considering the original head is now on ghost game and clearly a huge fan of past shows and digimon, I'm certain he wanted the series to end with Zeed Milleniumon being defeated by Omegamon Alter S; it not only makes sense that the form was created by the angels of hikari and takeru to create Alter S (which would be a clear nod to the original series and how wargreymon and metal garurumon were born), but it would make a far more exciting final battle. It's just speculation of course, but it's almost as if the new lead of digimon adventure 2020 just took that script and added his own original character digimon that he "definitely didn't copy from Pride in Full Metal Alchemist" and because taichi was his favourite character; that would explain tai's insert.

MetalGreymon’s introductory episode was episode 10, so if the head of Digimon Adventure left “that” early to work on Ghost Game, then no wonder the quality dropped massively and Tai was forced everywhere alongside the ending being awkward and honestly this video needs to brought up the next time a review happens on “TheDigiknow” please mainly because I personally find this very interesting!!! 🤔

Looking up his IMDB he also directed digimon xros wars, dragonball super and was in the art department for Dragonball Super: Broly. Sources are wikipedia, IMBD site, MyAnimeList, fan wikia and the series credits themselves btw. However looking into it I cannot find information of when he left digimon adventure 2020 (if he even did) and just gets credited that he directed it. However he did work on both.

I always thought that it was for new fans and that seeing the old show would ruin the show, I agree. I wish they spent more time on the kids and the vision quest could've been something cool, but they didn't execute it properly; besides that, this is still one of my favorite seasons of Digimon, and I'm very ecstatic for the dub! I can't wait to see it.

Agreed, not good compared to the OG series. Making them automatically able to digivolve to mega, removing the need to actually ADVENTURE. Made it more focused on the two main characters, instead of as a group. Removing the need for crests and tags, etc.

As much as I agree about the Digimon Adventure reboot, I would like to see a continuation of the series like a second season set in the same year as the reboot, and for it to fix the problems the reboot has and resolve some dangling plot lines; Koshiro's family situation for example. However, it would be best to wait until Toei understands what fans loved about the original series before they attempt a continuation of the reboot series.

Very uh, cathartic video to watch lol. It's a serious shame Adventure: turned out the way it did. There was definitely an attempt to flesh out and explore ideas not implemented in the original. The show feels tailor made for the kids of adults who grew up with the original, as those adults would presumably fill in the blanks. But what you end up with is a show that's about 10 episodes the original's runtime but with half the substance. I think what makes OG Adv age well is the mix of great writing and the cool monsters. The fact that it's essentially a 30min toy commercial lends to the experience. The reboot almost entirely exists just to reminder as wide an audience as possible that Digimon is still a thing and has merchandise you can buy now. From the characters being non-written, the Digital World feeling more simple and less intriguing to explore, and the plot essentially being an errand of fight scenes and prophecies. I'd still like for them to tackle a reboot in the future, but hopefully one that can better stand out on it's own and understand how to write 8 main characters. I think c*vid definitely impacted the outcome of the show, but there was definitely a lack of good character writing, and an overreliance on nostalgia, rather than using the nostalgia to further uplift the story.

Joe and Mimi had the best episodes Not going to lie I felt like Joe was a weird Japanese stereotype you know in the original what he did overcome that in the original too be more outgoing But in the reboot I liked his characterization in the reboot yes you still have the little bit of The Bookworm in him he wasn't as uptight ( like from a lot of experience when I was in Japan and being part Japanese myself ) that's why I never liked Joe in the original as much but I respected his character growth What for enjoyability Joe in the reboot was one of my all-time favorite parts of the reboot besides Mimi

Of the adventure series I've only watched Tri all the way through and felt it had a pretty good first half. I even enjoyed the mostly filler 2nd movie because I'm a sucker for Digimon being cute. But it was bogged down by nonsensical lore and fights that lasted way too long in the second half. I tried to watch Adventure and honestly have only gotten past the first arc with Devimon before I kind of gave up. I completely blame the dub for killing my enthusiasm for continuing the series as it just bombards you with needless and silly quips that get old really fast. I might have been a bit more tolerant of these if I watched this show when I was a kid but not as an adult. I think I'll watch it subbed and probably have a better time with it, not to mention the soundtrack will be what was intended and not variants of the American Digimon theme played over and over again, I freaking love Butterfly and Braveheart way more. I've heard 02 isn't that great either, but I'll give it a chance if I can get through Adventure eventually. Honestly the Adventure reboot does sound better than the other Adventure entries to me so far, but that doesn't really mean much when the spinoffs like Tamers and even Ghost Game, if you ignore the lack of a good main story in the latter, are better. I am looking forward to the dub as I think Tri and Kizuna's dubs were handled way better than the original Adventure, but I think I'll be watching Appmon next after Ghost Game concludes. BTW of Frontier, Savers, and Xros Wars which one should I watch first?

I tried to like 2020 but could not, there was some cool things like more evolutions, but the sence of adventure was dead, interactions between the characters, the digimon, exploration, was dead, the fights way way way to many and so much drama added on those fights to drag it out almost endlessly only for in the end "Yeeyy we won again! " I did like one thing thou that a lot less drama between Tai and Mat but dunno feels like they did almost same mistake but even worse to forget most of the children and only focus on very few... If there is ever a new show please focus on the script, fights are cool, if well done and well scripted without stupid things happening left and right to drag them on...

I honestly enjoyed it. I feel like it was marketing for the Digimon card game and filler for Ghost Game. It's almost canon in some aspects, but I did not mind. It actually sparked my interest to buy the vpets and trading cards.

The reboot was nice but it lack of stroy and character development and the animation was poor and evolution scene were cheap. The report was just sharp drawing and tai foucs and fightings. Not to mention the villains feels less threatening but oh well, digimon deserve much love and respect and should be ultra popular the original digimon and digimon 02 was the best. After then it start dropping bad and cheap even the games there wasn't good games only 1 or 2 that felt ok the reboot was nice to introduce mega evolution and alternative mega for some digimons but it fails to deliver many aspect and impactful scene in fighting or animation nor story build up its almost there's no arc i fucking adore digimon so much but the reboot was a bit disappointing

Wow you are still stuck on Koushiro adopted story after all this time huh? Honestly you have to accept that while similar they got different traits and focus compared to the original. The Agumon Dim in 2020 was just extension of the map guiding them further into the journey.

Are you kidding?! This is actually the best reboot ever, so far! They gave the Adventure reboot some Tamers formula, by having other Digidestined humans and digimon caring about other humans and other digimon, and not just their own partners! It showed more equallity, and it made Mephistomon become Gabumon's arch-enemy! and best of all they gave Gabumon something he deserves a long time ago ever since the original, they gave him the glory of being the main hero digimon, and episodes that explained why he is the best!
