Not only do I love your analysis of one of my favourite songwriters, but your video editing is very clever and makes me smile. Love your work.

I just LOVE your Nik Kershaw videos. Thanks to your analysis I can understand many of Nik's harmonic subtleties on which I brooded for such a long time. Now I can experience them with even more intensity. Keep it up!

Thanks for this great analysis, this song has always gripped me emotionally. It’s also a very good example of Nik’s fondness for minor 11th sounds, usually with his vocal providing the 11th (very prominent in the verses of One Step Ahead as well). The genius of Nik is how transparent all this is - it never becomes inaccessible or crowds out the emotion with pointless show-off stuff. Most listeners just follow the lead vocal and have no idea that total harmonic insanity is going down in the background. I can’t think of many other artists that achieved this, perhaps Debarge or Pages…

Really great analysis! "Life goes on" to me always felt very expressive harmony-wise (especially the effect of the "bright bridge" and it turning into the gloomy verse again, which exactly mimics waking up to reality from having been carried away shortly by a nice memory), but having never analysed it, I´m quite impressed how broad the harmonic palette here is. Your videos help me a lot in understanding why I love Nik´s music so much from when I heard "Wouldn´t it be good" & "The Riddle" at age 4/5 onwards.

Congrats - excellent and interesting study of these two masterpieces. Your analysis was useful for my article about Nik's 'The Works' which is in the current issue of 'Classic Pop' magazine (with a-ha on the cover)...
