As an imposing media figure, and since his arrest is rarely out of the news, Andrew Tate is a massive talking point even whilst he languishes in jail in Romania. Tackle the ball, not the man, is a generally a good way to tackle the central ideas that people hold. In this video we take on Tate's ideas and ways of thinking.

I'd just say, I don't think that this guy's vision of family is "zhe conservative idea" of family. He might coat it as such, but it's the farthest thing from what he practices. His wife and other women around him are the ones who actually provide for him (as much as I hate to call what they do work). He's about as monogamous as an Ottoman Sultan. I don't know if he has kids, but I suspect not (God, I hope not). Few traditionalists would consider this a traditional marriage

I totally agree with you. But then what is the "conservative" take on family? This guy hearkens back to some weird version of the family where the man was "the one with the power". Isn't that the conservative ideal?

@@TheDiscourseCollective Not exactly. This is a complex concept, but I hope, I'll be able to do it justice: in the ideal traditional family the man and the woman have different kinds of powers. The man's power is more external and the woman's power more internal. This is a model, that was made for the times when families were bigger and more self-sufficient, sort of like political units. The father would handle defence, diplomacy and justice, while the mother would run the household. This made the woman actually much more influential, than a man, as relates to the impact on the members of the family. I guess the analogy would be with the British political system: the PM makes most decisions that affect the everyday lives of citizens, but the King is technically in charge and can overrule him (he just doesn't do so very often). So the modern conservative ideal for a family is that those roles of a man and woman are kept (even if mostly symbolically), the man is expected to step up and defend his wife (yes, they need defending sometimes, there are still dangerous situations in this World), to provide for her (precisely so she wouldn't have to resort to demeaning "labour", the kind the Tate women are doing. Basically the idea of providing is that if a man can do more, he should do more. And if the woman feels it would be better if she stayed at home, the man should try to facilitate that. Like Hitch used to say: "No woman of mine should have to work. They can if they want to.") The traditional conservative marriage is perpetual, procreative and monogamous. Sorry for the ramble, but hope this answers your question
