I have zero respect for anyone that scams and takes advantage of the elderly. My grandfather once received a call from a scammer, saying that his grandson just died in a car accident and they needed money for the funeral. This sounds ridiculous to many, as this is never how funerals and contacting family about passed loved ones, but for someone with dementia, it pulls on their emotions and literally messes them up. The scammers said my name to him, mentioned my parents, and my wife, and said just enough to make it sound real. He thankfully didn't give any money, as he was no longer at the state of mind to handle his finances, and his daughter was the power of attorney taking care of it all, but it still messed up my grandfather for a good while. called my phone, thinking he was calling my brother, and when I said it was me, he kept saying that no, he's dead, I was told he's dead, and I had to do everything to try and calm him down and reassure him that I am myself, and I am not dead. Had to leave work early just to see him in person.

My 64 year old mom got scammed the other day trying to pay her AT&T bill and she accidentally went to a site that just claimed to connect to her account, but actually just stole $250 from her and tried to get more, but the bank blocked it. I sent her some of your basic videos on avoiding scams and she said you make it so easy for her to understand what to look out for despite her not being very computer literate. So thank you, Jim. Because of you my mom now knows what to look out for and she's much more cautious.

I often wonder how much the actual workers know. Now obviously some of the more malicious scams where they’re actively editing html code and tricking people to get gift cards, those people are clearly aware and criminally inclined. But these tech support ones where they’re charging for fake software installation and fake software scanning it’s possible the day to day phone folks don’t realize it’s all smoke and mirrors because they are actually doing SOMETHING. I have no idea what any of this stuff Jim explains in this video means so if I started working there at that scam center and the boss told me to run x and install y when you see xyz and charge x amount of dollars I’d probably just shrug and go “if you say so” thinking I’m just doing a tech job.

Dude… this just happened to my 74 year old grandma last Christmas… they took $4,000 from her, and hers and my family’s situation is always bad… she just got into a car accident a month and a half ago, shattered her ankle… and if that wasn’t bad enough, most my family is in poverty and most of them live with her or depend on her for something. And so last Christmas, kids were taken from my parents and that was gonna be their first real Christmas with my grandma and that didn’t get to happen, my husband and I actually ended up being in a very good spot where we ended up getting everyone something. They all live in California, My husband and I, live clear across the United States, so we can’t even visit. I told my grandma what to do and honestly, no one else tried helping her. Her own brother said, “Oh well, let her learn her lesson.” And he’s actually very good with technology and has his own business. It’s sad the way everyone there treats her. I did tell her to come live with me but she won’t leave because apparently they all “need” her. (On another note tho, I love how you stood up for this elderly man and told them scammers off. This is great. Shows us what we can and should do. Thank you.) 💜💜💜

Client's social security was deposited on the first, even before anything was spent charges started coming off their card. When a family member got ahold of the bank the first time to see where all the money was going they found that this had been going on for several months sometimes a few times a day and there were no red flags issued with the bank.

@@SharkAcademy It's not the tech that's the problem. A lot of people don't understand coding, firewalls, and computer maintenance/repair. But they still have the ability to recognize the scam. That's what's going to kill that industry because at the moment their victims are almost always people who grew up with little to no technology and the technology they did have was fixed in person by someone. Tomorrow I could get a call about something that I know virtually nothing about being wrong with my laptop and I'd still be able to recognize the scam and most people are the same. As someone who works in an actual call center (I do tech support for Nintendo), these guys seriously piss me off. I have a pretty heavy accent (I'm a Venezuelan exile), and because of assholes like these, there's a significant amount of customers who call, hear my foreign accent, and are distrustful and/or demanding to speak with an american. Not only are they stealing from tons of people and ruining their lives, but they are making the jobs of honest workers like us needlessly harder in the process.

You are right. I had to call DWP the other day after receiving a letter that I had been overpaid ( which the amount matched and my details too and I knew about it). The operator had a slight Indian accent and involuntary, I went all cautious. The poor guy was very embarrassed but as I was sure it was a legit call, I relaxed a bit. I felt very sorry for him because ohe has to endure people like me who grill him for doing his job, just because scammers. . And I am angry at the scammers because I had to make sure the number on the letter did indeed belong to DWP, so I wasted time on gov. Uk . Of course, I walk away, but in wasting my time with these dishonest guys, I end up not getting something fixed that needs fixing. How I wish I could order one Jim Browning to call these fellas out for their thievery. They think because I'm older that I'm addle-brained. Not yet, buddy. Sad that we have only ourselves to rely on with most of these situations--meaning, we can't go to the police or even elected representatives and expect any protection from them. Although, if I think a business has ripped me off, I will write a complaint to FTC or local consumer protection agency--all I've done is make a record, no one is going to jump up and interrogate the bad guy. I think the word you are looking for is immoral ie actively acting against moral norms. Amoral means something different ie something that doesn't fit within the scope of moral judgement such as a force of nature like a hurricane that simply runs it's course with no capacity to consciously make a moral choice whether to act for good or ill.

tbf some of those people are quite young and in desperate need for money. they may have little to no idea about what the company actually does and they would sign the papers . it isnt until later that they find out and even so they cant do anything because they are bound by a contract and it is too expensive to terminate the contract. there have been instances where these people felt guilty and wanted the operation to stop so they contact youtubers like jim browning, pleasant green etc. but what they do is very risky as the companies sort of blacklist the whistle blower and send people after them to beat them up.

@@kamindhilokugamage9575 Yeah, they could get a legit job though. Even scrubbing toilets. This job makes more $. You've ever hear them brag about it to Kitbog? Many if them are PROUD to scam foreigners.

These are the people that unfortunately help me develop my racism towards. My family has gotten scoot over from these people, and overtime I grew to honestly have a disdain. Now that I am older, and I've grown out of that not knowing better, knew it was wrong, and focus most of my gripes with these scammers. Happy you're doing a service for people man, this needs to spread, and we need to do what we can to make it hell for them

When Jim was being direct with the scammer I had the same feeling as when your mate is getting told off by their parents when you're over their house. Didn't expect such a bizarre nostalgia trip from watching this. Great work as always.
