Calling it the Disney trilogy is ridiculous. It's the Kennedy trilogy. They didn't touch the film. Lucasfilms hadn't made a movie since the prequels. And they didn't buy George Lucas they bought the brand he created. Hire good writers and keep a few consultants on retainer. Just to make sure your character names sound like star wars.

Your well crafted argument has failed to sway me to your side. Simple put, Finn already knew the horrors of the first order. Rose may of convinced him to being a Resistance soldier. Which at least gave him a character arc. But it doesn't change the fact the sequel trilogy is a mess of bad movies. And what do you mean I should take Star Wars more seriously. I already do. But it's hard to take the sequel trilogy seriously. Also who the heck are these elders you mentioned? People don't get my respect until they've earned it. And it doesn't change the fact Finn isn't morally wrong. The Resistance is in a bad situation. Finn what's to make sure Rey is safe. But he should know by now she is a Mary Sue and can handle herself. Actually the Canto bite mission ends up killing a ton of resistance soldiers. To which they feel no guilt and celebrate at the end.

Id say go back in time and see how disappointed ppl were with the prequels. This new trilogy is not like the original or the prequels. It is its own story that is connected to the others. Instead of voicing your rage, let time settle and see if you still feel the same way. The lack of relationship-building moments between the three protagonists. Poe and Finn basically bump into each other and are instant buds - to the point that Poe embraces Finn at the end like he was his best friend. Last Jedi and Rise Of Skywalker not only didn't fix those issues, but they just blew it all to shit.

@Grapthar's Hebrew Hammer I've been following Mike zeroh and I hear that Disney is now working on damage control and now acting out of desperation making big plans to bring the Star Wars fandom back together with new content along with the films TV shows and books that take place away from the Skywalker Saga and will expand the universe of Star Wars and show new and exciting Mysteries and aspects of a force like we've never seen before, the latest that I've heard about recently revolving around the subject is that they are working on something called project luminous which will be announced sometime soon.

I agree. Look up what RJ said about his writing process for TLJ and you can immediately spot a few key mistakes. Nothing wrong with defying expectations, just don't _defile_ those expectations. Give the audience what they didn't know they wanted? Sure, but don't give them what they didn't know they DIDN'T want.
@kossend14 жыл бұрын
My problem wasn't with a forlorn Luke, it was the reasons given for him becoming that way and the illogical leap from TFA where he leaves a map, basically saying "Come find me when the time is right", to TLJ where he's saying, "I came here to die, leave me alone." It just illustrated the lack of planning overall and the non existent communication between JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson

The Empire/First Order wants the Forge to rebuild their Armada so of course the New Republic wants to stop them. They fail. Han is killed, Rey and Finn try to fight Kylo, but he escapes with the map. I think it should be noted that it's not Ryan's or Kathrin's fault. The problem is inherent in creating the Sequel Trilogy. Stories need to end.... but Disney doesn't want that... and while some of the animated and book spin-offs had issues, using the actual actors changes things drastically. It was a trilogy with a purpose... it was supposed to free Star Wars... Star Wars was a story, Disney wants a cinematic universe. And they took advantage of fans asking for more as an advantage. By destroying the Happily Ever After from ROTJ, they ruined what was a story. By breaking Luke down as the hero, it makes it that he isn't the hero of the franchise anymore. Star Wars is now no longer the story of a Father and Son, but the Cinematic universe of an alien Galaxy..... TFA destroyed the happily ever after and the story structure (and using real people and the actual actors did that in a way the books couldn't) TLJ destroyed Luke as the hero, allowing Star Wars to be about the Galaxy rather than Luke, who no longer was the Paragon of Hope ROS destroyed continuity, giving Star Wars the freedom to go after anything and make stories that don't always perfectly fit. And after the Sequel Trilogy (which has 2 good movies on their own, but are sh*tty Star Wars movies), it makes everything after seem much better. And at the same time, once kids who grew up with the story of Star Wars being ruined are adults, they won't see the Sequels as movies that destroyed the framework of Star Wars, but instead just see them as Star Wars movies.. And so they won't be viewed as that bad...sure, they'd still have their flaws, but once the fact they destroyed what Star Wars once was is forgotten, they'll be judge just as movies and they won't be that bad. Cause the kids would grow up in a world where the Happily Ever After didn't exist and Luke wasn't the paragon of hope....

Yeah, the villains were wasted in these films. Even ignoring Kylo, they should’ve made Snoke either Darth Plagus, or, as suggested in a rewrite by the youtuber Uniquenameosaurus, have him be a Kaminoan who made the clone gene, and had cloned himself over and over again, hence his deformities and disabled facial appearance. Hell, building off that idea, I would say he could’ve figured out how to clone himself in a way that gave him a high midhichlorian count so that we can explain his force powers. And if they REALLY wanted to bring Palpatine back, USE THE VEIL OF THE FORCE FROM REBELS TO GET HIM BACK AND HAVE HIM BE THEIR FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE TRILOGY. But no, how dare we respect the fans of the cartoons, even though we still try to suck money out of them with the force ghosts of Adi Galia and Kanan and Ahsoka, even though she’s not dead, and...GAH!!!

Agree. Mark Hamill's best work (even in Eps 4-6) has always been in his voice. I've heard even the truest ST fans mock some of his line readings; but they were always on point to me - and IMO the box office and longevity of the fandom prove it. (As does his post-SW career as a voice actor. Just nailing the Joker would be enough for most careers.) He has great voice control, is my point, and knew _exactly_ what he was doing in all those pre-TLJ interviews . . . all those answers where it seemed like the _way_ he answered the questions hinted at the disaster to come. That s**t was _intentional._ In the very act of performing his contractually required TLJ-promoting shuck-and-jive, he left no doubt how he really felt. As inappropriate as the comparison might be, the similarity to Cmndr. Denton blinking _TORTURE_ on that North Vietnamese broadcast is hard to get away from. I've gotten pretty sick of Hamill's politics; I'm sorry, I wish I could say otherwise, but three years of punching down at working-class voters is about my limit. (Reading Trump tweets in the Joker's voice? So classy. Hope none of your fans voted for . . . know what: do it. Let the anger flow through you; speak your truth; kick those fans in the teeth, if that's your truth; new rules; you're right; they're wrong; that's it. Right? You do you. I give up.) But that horrible face he made as Kathleen Kennedy. cut him off to lie about how vital Luke was to Eps. 7-9 . . . he looked like a dammed soul who thought he was going to heaven and just lost his last appeal to St. Pete, and I felt so sorry for him.

My contempt only grew seeing the resurrection of concepts lifted up from the OT. I went to see The Last Jedi to see what this other director would bring. I nearly walked from the theater. Then I found out that George Lucas had written detailed ideas on the sequels and that Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy lied to him and rejected them. I ignored The Rise Of Skywalker. And J.J. not to mention palpatine himself. I actually liked rise of skywalker particularly after the 2nd viewing because I could take in the movie and they did right wrongs but the problem is there was too many. basically rian Johnson f**d everything up but 3 major issues. 2 have to do with palpy. 1. he died, he was a 90 year old crippled man, strong with the force yes, but he was thrown int o what appears to be the nuclear core of the death star which was like 100 miles deep and a nuclear reactor the size of the great mall of America or bigger. then like 3 minutes later something that massive blew up whichbeing in the middle of it would have vaporized every single atom of his body so even if his essence wsa there, it can't be a body. also, he would have been 90 years old when rey's father was born. or at least 80 or so close to 90. if anything he could be her great great grandfather, not grandfather, no way . also, the sattleite disk shaped thing on the DS2 was larger then and wider than the executor which is like 12-14 miles long, which meant the piece of the death star on endor was way too small

Okay but the prequels have some of the worst directing, dialogue, CGI, and plot in cinema from the 2000s. Ep 1 and 2 in particular are just boring with very few bright spots. The original trilogy is so good because George was helped by writers and producers who kept his ideas in check. Also, he never directed 5 and 6. I am all for finding faults in the sequel trilogy (lack of planning and production drama), but it doesn't suddenly make the prequels amazing.

@@kierenmoore3236 Yeah, I didn't care for any of the prequels or sequels. They both go to extremes----the prequels were so determined to not do fan service or make the obvious decisions. Starting with Anakin as a kid was a horrible misstep----he needed to be the same age as Padme so their relationship could start, because that was more important than his leaving his mother. Besides, even if he was 14-15, he'd still be upset at leaving his Mom in slavery. Then the sequels went to the opposite extreme and were about giving fans what they wanted. I grew up watching the prequel trilogy. It's my introduction to Star Wars so i really loved it. I also watched the original 2D clone wars series and played many Star wars games on PlayStation. This was my childhood. It took me years to realize that there were problems with it specially comparing them to the original trilogy. But i still love them. Now watching Disney's star Wars reinforces my bias that the prequels is a great piece of science fiction storytelling and one of the best series of all times. The sequel trilogy is miles behind the prequels and even light years behind the original. Thank you for making this video btw. New subscriber here.

But now just imagine all the kids these days who are growing up watching the sequel trilogy. They might love it given the naive minds that they have. But we're the ones matured enough who know how subpar it is in terms of quality. I'm just here sighing in disappointment and helplessness.

Don't be ashamed to love the prequels. I'm an OT kid who grew up in the 90s with the greatness of the originals, and then was lucky to still be young to really enjoy some of the magic that truly is there in the prequels too. They're not perfect. They have some really off moments, but there's a lot to like there as well and it was always more a trend than an objective opinion to hate on the prequels. They're solid movies and still lots of fun to watch. One thing they do infinitely better than the OT are the lightsaber duels. They're insanely epic.

I'm 55, and consider myself more of a Trekkie and a Whovian than a dyed-in-the-wool Star Wars fan. That said, I am more than happy to dip into this universe and enjoy it. Episodes 4,5 & 6, though having a few minor flaws, are clearly the benchmark for the series; the prequels, maybe not always the best realised of movies, nonetheless have a great story to tell. This sequel trilogy though, is a complete mess - there is no guiding mind behind an over-arching storyline; TFA and TLJ are just poor re-imaginings of episodes 4 & 5, TROS is an ill-conceived knee-jerk attempt to correct the errors arising from that. With a few exceptions (like John Favreau on the Mandalorian series, and the writers for Star Wars Rogue One), it seems a lot of today's film-makers/writers lack the originality and creativity to be able to work within an existing mythology - they don't know how to tell a good story. It is true of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, it is true of Star Trek Discovery, and it is true of much of modern Dr Who; all franchises that are being dismantled and diminished by this generation of talentless, self-proclaimed "creatives" who just want to re-imagine, retcon or re-boot - because it's easier. But "easier" isn't good story-telling...

It doesn't matter if they (Disney) made Rise of Skywalker a great instalment to finish off the series; The Last Jedi STILL HAPPENED! We're still stuck with that stink pile as an instalment and that's the problem. The prequels are different because they're the backstory to the original trilogy; we still started off with the original trilogy and that's why the prequels don't ruin the originals. This new trilogy is both Official Canon and the events happening after the original trilogy. That's what makes the new trilogy far more frustrating and depressing than the prequels could ever be.

I am a huge Star Wars fan eversince the first movie came out in 1977, when I was just 6 years old. In my late teens, I realized that Star Wars was basically just trash science fiction compared to many other movies, comic books and novels from that genre, but that it was made with so much effort, passion and creativity, that it becomes a beautiful piece of art just because of that...and though my taste in sci-fi and movies in general became much more mature, I still always loved Star Wars, I rewatched the OT so often, that I knew every line in it by heart. Back then as a male one could easily ruin a date, just by mentioning one was a Star Wars fan, as unlike today, most girls/young ladies had strong negative feelings about everything that is considered to be "nerd culture" today. I didn't care. I still loved it. Later I was somewhat dissapointed by the prequel trilogy, but over the years I learnt to love them as well, as they completed the whole story ark and there were SO many details in them, making the Star Wars galaxy feeling much larger. During all of my life, I have spent thousands of USD on Star Wars merch, as a kid I owned hundreds of SW action figures, I had all the iconic space ships, I had a stormtrooper blaster, I've read dozens of SW comics, novels, I played and owned most of the SW vid games, I had SW themed posters, t-shirts, coffee mugs, bed sheets....LOADS of them. I never had children my own, but I introduced my nephew to SW and when he was 9 or 10, I gave my complete collection of Star Wars toys to him, after I had realized, that he had begun to collect them as well. I even turned my father, my sister and her husband and even my wife into fans. After I had watched TFA I saw the movie's flaws, but I still thought it had enough starting potential for a great sequel trilogy. But hen came TLJ... Until then I had watched every single Star Wars OT movie many dozens of times and every prequel movie at least 10 times and though I haven't watch TFA that often, I still owned it on DVD and had watched it a couple of times. TLJ was the first SW movie I felt bad about after having seen it for the first time. A couple of days later after having spend some thoughts about it, I began to deeply hate it. I haven't watched it again, after that first time. I boycotted "Solo" as I was furious about Darth Kath and Rian Johnson having claimed that all fans who disliked TLJ were "toxic", "racist" and "sexist" and Darth Kath arrogant statement that she didn't owe anything to SW fans. Well, no bitch, we don't owe anything to you. I only went to see TROS to see if JJ could somehow safe the sequel trilogy and though I really think he tried, the damage done by TLJ was too severe...and on top of that, TROS wasn't a good movie NOR a half-way decent SW movie either. It pretty much sucked as much as TLJ and I won't rewatch it either. And while I later enjoyed The Mandalorian quite a lot, my former passion for Star Wars has become a mere shadow of what it has been for almost 45 years of my life. Fuck you, Darth Kath! Fuck you, Rian Johnson! Fuck you, JJ Abrams!

You could easily spend another 3 hours on KK and RJ and the ridiculous statements they've made regarding Star Wars. How girls can't relate to Luke, how the title "The Rise of Skywalker" doesn't mean anything, how there's no source material, how "100% in line with the OT" Luke was in TLJ, how Lucasfilm needs "less white dudes", meanwhile every single person in the story group is a diversity hire with zero writing credits on IMDb prior to working on the biggest franchise in history. Odin covered that in one of his early videos, and it haunts me to this day. This video is a solid look at the films individual release and the dwindling response from the fanbase, but the behind-the-scenes drama goes so deep it's almost an endless spiral. Needless to say, it will be a topic of discussion on how NOT to run a franchise for decades to come.

Moreover, Kennedy's Lucasfilm gave us Rey, rather than a story involving a beloved character like Ahsoka Tano. Disney allowed KK to divide & alienate fans, rather than keep them united & happy. I think Rian Johnson went online and found out what all the Star Wars fans wanted, then did the complete opposite just out of spite!

I'm 50 this year. Saw the original in the theater the week it opened. At 12 minutes into this, I'm teary eyed at how excited I was for a new trilogy, and how devistated I am at what they did. Rogue One was so damn good. I never ended up seeing solo or episode 9. I may never. Goodbye Star Wars. Goodbye childhood. Goodbye.

Rogue One was also not good. It was just nostalgia bait with forgettable characters. I standby my statement everything post Return of The Jedi has missed the mark. Mandalorian is wonderful departure from SW though.
@DCFMgang2 жыл бұрын
@@karleycoventry25 It was nostalgia. Aimed directly at my generation. Pure fan service, and that is not a bad thing (see: MCU). Maybe not for the people who grew up with the prequels. Either way...Goodbye Star Wars.

I grew up with the OT, still enjoyed the prequels and defended them against the backlash in the 2000s, and when seven came I was kind of like "eh, it was ok, at least it set up for the next one, so we could get something pretty cool and interesting." Once episode 8 hit though, I was done, unlike the prequels which, while flawed, had many positive things about them, and episode 7 which you could give the "Disney's first" excuse for, episode 8 was inexcusable to me. Didn't bother with 9, just read a summery, won't bother. Maybe if I am exceedingly bored at some point in the future and need a laugh I might pirate it, who knows. EDIT: Also I don't believe the (now) 86% audience score on rotten tomatoes. The site has been proven to fake scores in the past, so I don't see why they wouldn't again.

Jake Skywalker throwing the lightsaber away is analogus to Disney throwing away everything before the purchase of Lucasfilm.

The worst possible explanation is that JJ actually knew what he was doing. The best case scenario for him was that he's completely incompetent as a writer.

I was always fine with Luke being a hermit and all. But its the fact his character went nowhere, and felt underused... and also undervalued. Luke was the key to winning over the original trilogy fans, and the way he was treated was like Lucasfilm taking a knife to its own wrist.

The trilogy was doomed as soon as Rey defeated Kylo Ren. That should have been Luke's intro/victory. Just as Mark Hammil suggested. 1:03:03

Agreed. One of the main, recurring villains of a trilogy being beaten by the protagonist in the first movie is bad news. Kylo should have won that fight or turned in the next movie. Kylo is not a credible threat to Rey after this The BEST Rey should have been able to do is save Finn from death, take a wound & barely get away with her life... Like Like v Vader the first time
@Beery19622 жыл бұрын
The problem with the sequel trilogy, and especially The Last Jedi, is that Luke acts like he's still the naive and whiny farm boy he was in A New Hope, but he has been trained as a jedi. The idea that a jedi would get all emotional and childish about his pupils having been killed is complete nonsense.
