Woke culture exists only in your mind. We just had four years of Trump the blithering Oompa Loompa, and we replaced him with Joe "Disingenuous" Biden. What's "woke" about that? This country doesn't care about nothing but money and status. It could care less for science, justice or reason. You call that "woke" culture? @Penderyn Lewsyn Fascism wouldn't give you the option to leave. Fascism would force you to comply with everything the state dictates or you would be either A.) forcibly removed or B.) exterminated. There is a big difference between patriotic nationalism (as the terms "patriot" and "nationalist" are synonyms) and racist ultra-nationalism. Stop labelling patriots as fascists, you people keep crying wolf and watering down the impact of calling someone fascist and one day if *real*, dangerous, ambitious fascists start gaining traction, no one's going to take you seriously until it's too late.

Like Tom, I'm Canadian. I am not certain if he has achieved his American citizenship yet but it is obvious that the USA is Tom's chosen country. I respect that. I live in a border city and pre-covid, was back and forth constantly. I understand both cultures well, what we have in common and those few things that are different. The issues that Tom has raised in this song are issues that all of western civilization is dealing with to some degree. Despite his birthplace though, Tom has chosen a very American way of confronting issues. In Canada, our voices are not so strong. That stiff upper lip has been passed down to us from the British and we stoically push down our emotion. We don't speak up. The USA was born of rebellion and it seems to be in all of your DNA. You are loud, opinionated, sometimes pushy. Tom is one of you. I admire him for it.

When I see all of the disrespect it makes my blood boil. If they hate it here so bad I can’t understand why they stay here. Kick effing rocks! I’m working hard to edit myself here. I want these spoiled little pricks to have to hand a folded flag to the families of someone who paid for their freedom and think about it. I’d love to take all of the ungrateful dirtbags of this country and take them to Nazi Germany, or Fascit Italy under Mousilini, China under Chairman Mao, or Cuba under Castro and drop them off and let them see how good they have it. I wouldn't say most. We are just being fed agendas from MSM and being shown whatever liberals are making the biggest fuss. I see A LOT of people who definitely don't think that way. A ton of people are coming out and speaking their mind more but big tech does a lot to censor them. BUT they are out there & sick of this ridiculousness too. You get people talking and many I've had conversations with don't agree with the agendas being pushed and these people weren't "middle/upper class white America". If you notice many tend to be white liberals pushing agendas and referring to themselves as allies when they don't really have a clue what they are even talking about. They somehow think being politically correct is the same as being morally superior. It's nuts.

Actually, most Americans agree with Tom. The election will be proved to be fraudulent. Dead people and illegals voting. Mail in ballots (high risk). Trump mail-in ballots being dumped by postal workers who support Biden (on video). Legitimate Trump ballots discovered dumped in ditches and closets. Biden ballots proved counted multiple times. Dominion voting machines blocked from allowing audits!? Dominion voting machines changing Trump votes to Biden in front of voters. Republican "Watchers" actually kicked out of counting buildings in democratic cities like Detroit as men wearing BLM t-shirts stand around clapping. Polls being held open for days passed election closure, in democrat majority states, until they had enough democrat votes (because Trump was winning). Counting buildings ceasing vote counts at night and sending home Republican Watchers, only to receive a ballot dump at 3:00am that all happen to be for Biden (because Trump was winning).

That's a sign of human nature, not the times. We can always do better, but we obfuscate the issue and throw the dice. Every single country on this planet that has ever existed, or still currently exists, has done something absolutely atrocious to either their own people, a different group of people, or both. That doesn’t mean don’t recognize our wrongs and our atrocities. It means accepting them, learning from them, and never doing them again (which is just a basic principle for maturing through life for every person: learning from your mistakes). I don’t get why we say on an individual level when someone screws up “hey, everyone makes mistakes, live and learn” but when it comes to your country “we should never forget this and always point out our past mistakes regardless of how things have progressed”. Hate the atrocities, accept them, and learn from them. But still be proud and love your country for what it is and what it’s done. America is, and forever shall be, known in history as one of the greatest and most powerful countries to have every existed. We should be proud of that

Is somewhat hypocritical to say "the first amendment is great so people can say what they want" but then criticising them for doing so because u dont agree and saying "if you dont like it leave". criticising your own country because u want to make it better doesnt mean you hate your country, it means you love it and want to make it even better. Americans seem to get stuck with the whole "we're the greatest country on earth, we're perfect" so nothing needs to change mentality. Just because something is great doesnt mean it is perfect and can't be improved.

@@nunya2171 I absolutely agree that continual progress towards more adult conservations would be beneficial. However, there is a rather important difference to acknowledge. Which is quite simply, there is a difference between constructive criticism and all out hate. You can disguise your hate as good intentions, but as we all know. "The road to Hell is paved woth good intentions." Meaning, it is truly admirable to want our country to grow and learn from past and present mistakes, in order to create a more prosperous future. I see your point extremely vividly. However, it is not hypocritical when you are referring to people in videos on KZbin, who live in America, and buy the American flag to literally burn or walk on. That is the type of "speech", that most definitely strikes me in an agreeable headspace with Mr. MacDonald. Freedom of speech is not what it has been morphed into as of late. With the riots, cancel culture, and burning of cities. I understand simply that you may not believe any of that at all, and if so I truly apologize for my assumption. But I am drawing it off, how fast you called MacDonald's own first amendment right, hypocritical. You jumped right in, and I couldnt help but notice that you didnt acknowledge, literally anything else throughout the song. Its wonderful to want change through speech, but lets making sure its actually peaceful demonstrations of speech and not those horrifying riots. I am sorry for any inconvenience and if I am wrong, I am truly sorry and owe you an apology on your convictions and strength of character. However, if I am not, please realize violence is never the answer to violence. Meaning, riots are not peaceful and will never incite meaningful or positive change. You must do it solely by peace. Evidence: Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr.

@@erictroxell4534 My point was more along the lines of there is plenty of hypocrisy to go around, especially on both ends of the spectrum. I think most sane, sensible people actually fall very much in the centre and those flag waving "patriots"(lol) storming the capital from the right are equally as insidious and hypocritical as the woke justice warriors on the left (ie defund the police might be the dumbest slogan ever uttered, but denying that the police force in the USA must change is also stupid). Cancel culture does not allow for mistakes and forgiveness. You tweeted something 10 yrs ago that was fine but now considered offensive to some group, you get cancelled. Apologizing does nothing. There’s no redemption. You are not worthy of participating in society because of something you said in the past. You are hated now. This is the woke response to everything. This is how they view the country. We did some bad things in the past so now the country must be destroyed. Ignore all of the progress and improvements made and destroy today and tomorrow for what happened yesterday. I would also argue that the difference in telling people to leave if they don’t like it isn’t referring to those who believe in America and want to make it better. That message is for those who truly hate the country, it’s people, and everything it stands for. The people that want to burn it down and fundamentally change what the country is, those who don’t believe we all have the same right to our freedoms and those that want half of us in jail or dead because we do love the country are a real threat to the survival of America. Freedom allows for its own destruction. We have the freedom to burn it all down and replace freedom with something else. Do we allow it to happen? Or do we set limitations on our freedom now before we lose our freedom which we’ve lost it if we do? Where do we draw the line in order to save what we have? Or do we have a limit ensuring self preservation? Are limits in order to ensure self preservation taking away freedom or ensuring it? Freedom seems to be a self defeating ideal. Is it hypocritical to espouse free speech then tell someone who’s trying to destroy the country to stfu or leave? Probably. But not unjustified. Im just rambling.

I know I'm late to the game, just started listening to Tom MacDonald in the last month. I have been checking out all the reactions to his music, and I have made an observation that encourages me so much. Please allow me to share it now... I am a child of the late 60's-early 70's. I cut my teeth on musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, etc. I am a 66 yo woman (the real kind, based on DNA). I was very liberal back in the day, and as I have aged, I have changed my opinions about so many things. I love America. I believe that we are all capable of being at peace with our neighbors, and loving them, despite various backgrounds, ethnicities, beliefs. If my sole source of info was MSM, I would have a mental disease, thinking that divisions are forever, and we can never get along, what's the point of living?.... I am so encouraged to see all the Tom MacDonald reactions are pretty much in line with my own beliefs, your reaction included. Thank you both, and thank you Tom MacDonald, for showing me how demented the MSM really is, that most Americans, despite our differences, still love this country. You all have given me hope....

I'm against the woke/cancel culture but...When did dissent become treason. Just because you want to improve something doesn't mean you hate it. I love guns n roses but I think the new songs are not great. You're allowed to wish to improve things and have different opinion. Just the statement if you don't like it, move out...how is that not cancel culture? It translates to: If you don't like my opinion, you should disappear. The problem is that there's no nuance anymore. Everything is black and white and no grey in between.

Unfortunately, this was how I also understood their takes to be... Just be happy and grateful for what you have. Do not seek to improve the situation. Disappointing.

I think there is a difference in recognizing something isn't perfect, and being a constant debbie downer hating something to the point you want to tear it apart. Also a lot of americans do need to "check their privilege." Some self reflection on how good they have it is needed.

@@Skitskl33 you have the most people in prison, some of the highest percentages of homeless, some of the lowest marks for education out of all the "first world" countries. Things are far from perfect.

I generally like a lot of Tom’s music. I tend to agree with him on a broad macro level even if I don’t agree with each of his individual micro points. I can even overlook some of the hypocrisy. After all, it’s just music., but this one’s a miss. He’s being intentionally obtuse. Most who just throw red meat usually are. I have no issues if you are against people kneeling but it hurts your argument when you intentionally misinterpret the point. I say “intentionally misinterpret” because I don’t believe Tom is a dumb guy. The whole love it or leave it motto is bullshit too. It’s a simple answer for simple people. Most things are much more nuanced. I think that the far left and the far right are essentially the same people. Just the hard wiring is different. They both have victim mentalities and by any means necessary/militant/my way only attitudes. Usually they’re all just really boring people, looking for attention, but never make a difference. We need to unify. Tom claims that in his music despite some of his lyrics being pretty hypocritical. Not to mention that he’s starting to turn into a one trick pony. You want real change? You want to somewhat unify the country? Outlaw gerrymandering. Start voting in centrist Republican & centrist Democrats (ya know, the actual majority of this country). The kind that can work together, make compromises and actually get stuff done. Quit voting in conspiracy theorists or people with their own personal agendas. The far left and far right will never get anything worthwhile accomplished. The only thing either have done is contribute to the division of this country. Some ultra conservatives need to open their minds a bit and some of the overbearing woke need to take a fucking nap. I know I’m exhausted from all of it.

@@RCXDerp I share many of his views as well. It’s just sometimes I think he’s being somewhat disingenuous even when I agree with the broad point he’s trying to make. Believe it or not, I can agree with somebody’s point even if I disagree with the way they’re making it.

The victim mentality between the parties is a good point. I work in the US a couple months of each year and i browse the news channel CBS,Fox, CNN the local stations. Also sometimes look at political commentators from the right and left. With some of the things they say and how they react to the tiniest situation id think they were living in the middle east. I have lived through a civil war during the late 80s early 90s even then the complaining was at a bare minimum. A lot of actions got us to that point of civil war, a product of the cold war, tribal politics, military dictatorships moping around was useless we had to suck it up or end up dead not even hyperbole. Mountain out of a molehill is the phrase id use why not use that energy to improve the American people’s lives. Politicians always talk about doing whats best for their constituents but i can count on one hand from the democrats and republicans the only governors and senators who have the peoples interest at heart and are a least open to bipartisanship.
