Five Nights At Freddy's animations have existed since the release of the very first game. Talking about the very first fnaf analog horror series created, the Squimpus McGrimpus tapes, Battington tapes, and the various others that came after. This is the disturbing art of FNAF analog horror, and how it became terrifying throughout the years.

You've managed to capture my entire youtube journey all in one video... and it's for a FNAF Analog Horror history video. Watching this video made me grateful of how far I've come. Of course I also cringed knowing you went through a lot of my older videos, but wow that was a retrospective that I needed. I'm subscribing, I gotta. honestly battingtons joke about the creator of the Walton files was so tame and the backlash was unwarented, like someone being called dead because of their inactivity is such a tame common joke its wild to me that the backlash was as big as it was, the only bad part i can see in it was the explination of the joke wasnt a direct reply maybe? but i feels thats a stretch for criticism
@mockery_finn

I was there when he made the joke. The problem was how he phrased it and how at the time It felt like most Analog Horror Channels knew one another so the idea of one of them kicking the bucket and the news getting to their friends didn't feel far off. It was poorly phrase and something like "Martin Died of Ligma" would've been fine. Then again I am saying this in hindsight thou I guess it was a good thing Bat didn't finish the Sqiump remakes lmao

While it’s an understandable joke between friends, bat presented it with full sincerity. Nothing about the image or post even hinted to a joke. And it’s not like these are big celebs you could look up to find out if they’re alive or not. The fans would only be able to hear about it from friends or family. So of course there would be people who believed it and were hurt by the news. The joke was in bad taste and presented horribly. Bat’s moved on from it though and looks to be doing well so hopefully this will just be the one mistake on his part.

@@cordyceps7531 I blame the three-way overlap with bronies, furries, and creepypasta fandoms. The first two are infamous for the high ratio of kiddie diddlers (to be fair to the furries they have been doing a concerted effort to call out the kiddie and doggie diddlers since the 2010s, but they have to deal with the fandom before trying to just pretend it wasn't a problem), and the latter is infamous for hypersexual minors shipping 13 years olds (Jeff the Killer) with 10 years olds (Ben Drowned's version of Kid Link) and other garbage BS like that. The influx of Minecraft and Roblox fans (more places with a predator problem!) and Sonic fans (here's the hypersexual minor brigades again) didn't help. FNAF fandom attracted absolute trash from multiple cesspools, and I'm saying that as both an OG fan and a guy who swam in most of those cesspools long enough to realize they're cesspools and I never want to be part of any of those.

The conversation between bonnie and chica is super compelling to me. It also sort of recontextulizes his fixation on his face (he removes it in a cut jumpscare in one and is missing it in two) as trauma from him being a victim of William in the spring Bonnie suit, not wanting him or his friends to deal with the trauma of seeing the face of the thing that did this to them every day. I know literally all of Fnaf’s storytelling past one is completely incidental and was not planned or remotely thought through, but that doesn’t stop me from filling in the child animatronic trauma shaped hole in the series

As the nerd who made this video brought out, the MURDERED CHILDREN really became a footnote in the series. It quickly became consumed with "whodunnit?", followed by a bunch of gobbledygook, new variations of tired out characters and a confusing storyline that makes Scott want to Afton himself every night. But, for the first time since 2014, I almost cried watching that interaction. Again, as the nerd said, the entire story becomes more solid and stronger when given the perspective of these poor children that didn't know any better, never got to experience love or loss or live life, instead forced into an eternal hell. I like your thoughts on Bonnie's face removal. That would show what little humanity they still have control over. Overall, very well done. TL;DR- u rite

A little bit of a late reply here, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere, that Fredbear and Spring Bonnie were programmed to find each other that way. This is absolutely facts. Just because the individuals involved are both minors, does not mean either of them are incapable of being a bad person willingly. I've suffered from cPTSD because of someone who borderline groomed me, even though we were the same age. Even if they 'didn't know any better', and it wasn't meant to hurt me in anyway, IT STILL DID. It still left me scarred in a way that effects me to this day, and just because they were also a minor, doesn't invalidate or change how I feel. There was a lot more to it than the borderline grooming, but it's the most notable.

Analog Horror kinda suffers the same fate the backrooms did, to me at least. The tropes, techniques, visual styles used in them have just kinda gotten... stale in a way? The walten files did the "face mutulation" thing perfectly, tho now that almost every other analog horror series tries to do the same thing, it just all begins to feel too... similair to eachother. The series's themselves are still good of course, i just wish creators would be more adventerous instead of copying. "Gemini Home Entertainment" for example did the analog horror style in a unique and terrifying way.

Battington's main mistake was listening to Squimpus' about 'remaking' the videos. After all, Squimpus didn't actually own the characters or ideas. Battington's videos had distinct differences, especially his best ones where he added elements that even Squimpus couldn't manage. And after what we know about Squimpus now it makes me feel even worse that Battington listened to him. Looking back, I wish Battington had continued making the VHS videos just to see Squimpus' cry about it, considering he couldn't do anything to stop it. Battington inadvertently allowed Squimpus to believe he had control over him, leading him to comply with Squimpus' requests, which he unfortunately did.

Love that you touched on the incompatibility of the original three games darkness with the game's newfound appeal to kids. It's actually pretty messed up that it's so popular with kids, but I mean, I was into J-horror and creepypasta when I was pretty young. Everyone goes through phases of exploration to find out what horror they can tolerate.

50:24 I love how the Endo and the animatronics themselves look like theyd be in Rock afire explosion. Especially with the design of the endo using the hydraulic mouth part, in my opinion, that mouth part is one of the most iconic parts of rock afire’s design. Truly an amazing piece of engineering. Thank you @Battington for making such incredible looking models. I especially love how they dont look like theyre purposely meant to be scary but just have that weird uncanny look to them. So it feels like they would actually be found in a family pizza franchise instead of a universal horrors walk through. Incredible work, Id love to try to make my own 3D animations but blender isnt supported on my computer so sadly I cant, for now, Ill just enjoy these amazing vhs tapes.

Finally, someone who mentions Junior 0437. I remember watching one of their videos, one about foxy in pirate’s cove, and the shivers I felt from watching that, brought me back to the first time I played fnaf. It’s exactly what brought my interest back into the scarier side of it all.

I feel like the cartoon video ( 30:19 ) is supposed to show how the characters are just child friendly and fun, when Chica sees the image with fredbear and springbonnie blacked out she's getting too close to the reality, and when the door shuts (im guessing referencing william shutting the door before killing the kids) she finally goes back to reality (with the chica model) The part with the flowers is probably referencing their want to be free, the fredbear plush and "tomorrow is another day" referencing the reason fredbear/springbonnie are gone in "reality", golden freddy with the flames being how angry micheals brother is and knowing theyre "never getting out", the foxy mask maybe representing micheal and the puppet being charlie of course, and then the sad puppet being charlie upset about what micheals brother is saying to her in the text Sorry, i'm a big fan and your confusion gave me the need to write the essay 😭

the way you used the track Dear Little Brother at 11:57 added so much more emotion and depth to an already depressing tape. along with that, your presentation of info is so incredibly well done, and i find myself rewatching a lot of your videos because of it. hoping that you have an insane boom in viewership, more people need to see your content.

Funny thing about that first Squimpus video "a skeleton", it used characters from the FNaF fangame Popgoes, so even though it isn't in the same vein as the tapes it was still FNaF related.

I enjoy FNAF VHS more than the official stuff these days. It's for the fans who really loved the original murder mystery and horror aspect of the originals, whereas nowadays it's all about the animatronics (sorry, Roxy you're still my favorite). My favorite FNAF VHS tapes are definitely "Paranormal Investigation" by Spectre and Battington's version of "Sound Response Check." For me, that's what got me into the series when the game came out. Especially because animatronics aren't supposed to walk around, they're bolted to the floor (making 90% of FNAF characters automatons, not animatronics) so it added to the mystery and intrigue. Hope more come out over time!

I personally really like the FNAF tape creators who also aren't afraid of taking a piss at Fnaf and their own work in a form of memes or other funny content. Spectre made the withered Chica salvage animation and there's a variant of that where chica just casually starts doing gangnam style. I think Battington also made one where spring bonnie does a very silly dance.

I never been really into the fnaf vhs part of the fandom(Imma the books guy lol), haven't watched most of them until recently but gods, they have a familiar yet different feelings to them that the games don't really have and the fact that they tackle the horrific notion that those are children inside the suit (which is surprisingly underutilized) just add more to them It sucks that the situation but i will take the good inspirations with me

One thing I want to see more in Fnaf related things is the reactions of the people in the FNAF universe to the events of the game. How the parents reacted, the workers, the news, the detectives, the public. I want to see more of how the people outside of Freddys sees everything, like they kind of do in the Security Breach messages

I think Battingtom was better than squimpus at horror/making things unsettling while squimus was good at story and dialogue elements. Both creators take different approaches that are equally as good. Battingtom focuses on horror while squimpus focuses on the heart felt moments and lore. I applaud their work (but not not what squimpus did).
