I know this game relies more on gpu than cpu, but in future videos of this series it would be nice to see performance difference with settings that are more cpu bound. With assassins creed odyssey there were a couple settings you found little to no performance difference in, but in the comments people said thats because those settings are more cpu heavy and on a cpu bottlenecked system it would make a larger difference.
@sabin19815 жыл бұрын
Yeah, +1 on this. It's all well and good saying "there's no performance difference on our $700 CPU" but the fact is... not everyone has that. Most of us are using more accessible CPUs, like the Ryzen 5 or the i7 6/7/8-series, and games like ACO often choke hard on those.

I think you've missed a key issue ...players care about flat 60 at ALL times in this action PvP game. Not testing huge fire (or others types) scenes for contact shadow settings and particle effect is s big loss...A few areas in Div 1 can give big drops in frames with large particle effect enemies. Which is why I actually ran it at medium to achieve stable 60 even if that happens. And the contact shadows only had no effects because the benchmark is pretty much just outside, meaning it's pretty much the same stressing as Sun high or sun low. Using the benchmark is good for most settings, but should have tested specific scenes
@mmmcrispyful5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this comment. In-game benchmarks can be extremely misleading for testing various settings and The Division 2 is no different. I certainly saw an uptick in performance by reducing contact shadow and particle effects to medium, and was really disappointed to see the results mentioned in this video. This game can be very taxing on the CPU as well, something that the early levels and in-game bench do not demonstrate. For anyone using the recommended settings, while still better than the presets, will still encounter drastic fps drops just by progressing further in the game. Which is why you end up seeing such a large disparity between reviewers and gamers in terms of performance.
@oropher12345 жыл бұрын
Some players care about a flat 144, you know. He cannot adress the needs of people. He can only adress facts, at least that is the best way of doing this. Nevertheless testing more stressing parts of the game is important, and for that matter you are right!
@ZDY666665 жыл бұрын
@@oropher1234 yea, but 60 is seen as the standard these days and 144 is seen as the more enthusiast grade. Regardless, I really doubt on these suggested settings, that older /current mid end GPU like 1060 or 580 could always hit flat 60 in various scenes. The outdoor scenes are simple because it's just sun ray contact shadows
@ZDY666665 жыл бұрын
@@oropher1234 the worst part is he didn't test particle levels. Because some units that use fire for example, can drastically drop frames, and it would be in a combat situation too, so that makes it even worse.

If "object detail" meant "mesh quality" then maybe you'd see an impact on VRAM, but then again, mesh size is usually so small it is insignificant to VRAM usage.

Thumbs up to the devs for giving us access to all the options, not a thing that has been universal by any means in similar titles. For me it is a sign that they truly care about their PC port rather than what has been seen before with titles created primarily with consoles in mind. By the way, when the game has a lot of options like this any chance on a link in the description to a list of the settings in the video descriptions. This would be an easier reference when setting up the game itself as when using the Tomb Raider guide I kept having to stop and restet the video which was a bit painful as it takes different time frames to talk about a setting and then to impliment it.

I'll back this up with experience. I can see NO difference at all between 100% and 85% at 1440p, and it's nearly a 20-30% performance increase on my machine.

really appreciate the work you guys put into this kind of videos … as a working adult sometimes it's hard to test every setting, even more so if there's a lot... however your examples and comparisons are extremely useful and thoughtful... def keep em coming and i'm sure gonna check that Patreon channel you guys have!! Wish you'd go into the TAA implementation in this game. We have no AA control in settings. TAA is set to 3 by default in the config file and it's incredibly blurry. Setting it to 1 creates jaggies everywhere. 2 seems to be the best setting (and I believe it was set to in TD1).

Love these videos! Your time and effort put in really shows! It would be awesome if you could show maybe a few cards benchmarked with your different custom settings to see the fps gains and at different resolutions.

Only thing I would argue is Volumetric Fog, Ultra may not look like a huge difference from High to Ultra but when you're actually moving around and you see the shifts in lighting cause of the nice weather changes then you really learn to appreciate it being at Ultra. If you have a decent rig I would put it up to Ultra, the Division 2 is a very nice looking game even at lowest settings however, Ubisoft really put in the work to make the game look extremely detailed.

An outstanding presentation with all the details. A 'benchmark' seminar on how to optimize this game. I wonder (at this typing)why the 8 thumbs down. There's a lot of information that clearly took an enormous amount of time to assemble in an orderly well thought out narrative. This is probably the first of a kind where the settings are analyzed in this manner. Very Well Done!

@@emreb2043 DX12. With DX 11 I too get 30-40 fps. DX 12 is almost double of that with less drops. Also your Ram timings and CPU OC comes into play. I have heavily tightened RAM timings and OC'ed my FX 8350 to 5.0GHz.

An FYI, I got this game with my Vega 56, even with these settings I couldn't get 60 fps, with a very odd bug when I turned the camera, the fps would drop to below 30, and then slowly creep back up when I stopped. It was a studdery low fps mess. I swapped to Dx12. Runs like pure butter on almost max everything. I'd love to see others test it, or if it's just my rig
@enollis18295 жыл бұрын
idk why but I always hate those sharp shadows. they don't look realistic for me. most shadows always are blurry except when it's extremly close to the source perhaps. and at 7:04 the one i'd definitly choose is medium or high at max. the ultra preset looks off and unnatural and actually very wrong. as the shadow would gradually get blurry. dik if there is someone who knows things about shadows and in that case feel free to tell me I'd stupid but until then medium and low were the most realistic for me

João Câmara i doubt it man. this game is VERY poorly optimized. i have a gtx 1060 6gb 8gb dd4 ram and an i5 7500 and i had to turn off uplay overlay nvidia overlay and every other bg software that u might use when playing games just to make this game playable with 40-50 fps (still fps drops sometimes) so i definitely don't recommend this game for a 1050ti and 8gb ram.

The 1% low moving around like the average FPS is admirable. Most of the time the 1% low caused by stutters are repeated (or just don't move by a lot) no matter the graphics quality you chose.

Quick question: Have you run into system struddering due only having 16GB RAM? I ran into system memory issues. I upgraded to 32GB RAM after playing the open beta. Currently playing the release version and the game is consuming about 12GB RAM by itself(according to task manager). Game preset is high.

Once again a flawless, detailed and very useful Optimization video! Great job! I cant help but be frustrated with the lack of SLI Support.. it seems that Ubisoft kinda forgot about it lately with the exception being Far Cry. SLI was in The Division, and worked decently. It is the same engine used in The Division 2, but for some reason SLI is removed. Why not leave it on Ubisoft? Hoping for some kind of fix through official updates or more DIY SLI fixes :) We are used to doing the developers jobs after all :)

must say I like the "low" on spot shadows way better, the soft edges are nicer, LOVE these videos, so nice to have the "best" options handed to us, instead of spending hours upon hours OR just leaving on ULTRA... 30% performance is HUGE for little to no loss in visuals, kudos for another great video! keep em coming :D and yes I know you spend a LOT of hours on a video like this, but do the math on how many hours the rest of us save combined!

@HardwareUnboxed I imagine the projected textures are actually 3d projected textures for decals. Like bullet holes on walls and such. They are projected from the camera.
